Being adopted from Bangkok in 1976, this musical hit my heart, maybe a subconscious thing, but it makes me cry. Thailand sided with America in the Vietnam war, hence why so many GIs we're stationed in Thailand, not just Bangkok. There were Vietnamese refugees, American GIs of all ethnics and Thais in Bangkok when I was born. Damn it, I'm still getting teary eyed. When getting a chance to audition, I overheard the producers, saying it was the first time they had someone who was born during the time in which the musical was set. I was ill prepared, but it was an honour to sing on the stage for the West end production audition

Miss Saigon is not only a masterpiece it was also one of the first plays to have Asian actors as leads from the very beginning. It transformed the theater world from using 'yellowface' actors, which, as you can imagine, is disturbing.
So I am a Bui Doi, in a way, with an American father who was in the US Navy from St. Louis, Missouri. Except I was born a year late and a country away in the Philippines.
My cousin, Jojo, played Thuy in the original cast. Miss Saigon is playing here in Guam from September 2-4, 2022, at the island's largest venue, the UoG Calvo Fieldhouse.
I've spent time with some of the leads, and they are amazing. They sang at my house! My son, 17, is part of the ensemble. And the director is also family.
I will be there supporting each night. I'm excited to watch it again! ❤🎭

Eva Noblezada has a good voice but she's too American in her singing nuances. She lacks the innocence of Lea Salonga's voice dynamics - young sounding, very Asian. I also miss the dramatic impact of THE Simon Bowman's nasal voice.
