Congratulations! My budget advice: Add an "Easy Button" category. You can call "uncle" and press the easy budget button when you need to. Maybe it's dinner delivery, a one-time deep clean of your house, a car detail after a 💩 explosion, or lawncare for a season. Whatever it may be, give yourself the grace to press the Easy Button. 😉
Congratulations, Hannah! I'm so happy for you! You might want to budget for a dog trainer to help you help Julep adjust. A trainer might be able to help you before the baby comes to help you make the transition easier for Julep.
Oooooh... that's something I never even thought of. One of the first signs we had that we were pregnant (before we even took a positive pregnancy test) WAS Julep, actually! She got a lot more protective pretty much instantly and insisted on constantly "sitting guard" in front of me if I were ever in bed or on the couch. I think she'll likely be pretty protective of the baby as well, and just hoping Baby Bingus can learn to sleep through the barks 😬🙃 🌻 Hannah
My daughter just had a baby 6 weeks ago, and she has an almost 2 year old Goldendoodle. My granddaughter spent the first 3 weeks in the NICU, so during that time, they would bring home clothes or blankets that the baby had worn so he could smell them. They also called their u born baby the dog’s “baby sis” and talked about her often, and pointed out her baby bed, toys, etc. Then they said “baby sis” when showing him the baby clothes with her scent. When she came home of course they again called her “baby sis”, so he could make the connection. As hyper as he is, he was so good around her from the beginning. He was a little protective, but nothing that has caused any problems. She sleeps though his barks, because she has gotten used to it (and of course heard it in womb). Best of luck to you! Congratulations!
Congrats on the happy news! My suggested category... formula. This stuff is priced like liquid gold, and despite the best and extraordinary efforts made by lots of moms, breastfeeding doesn't always work out. Be prepped to take on that expense (even if just for supplementing), and then if you don't need it, you've got a great bonus ready for Baby Bingus' other categories.
Oooh, I've heard formula is uber expensive but I've never actually looked to find out myself how much it costs. Unforeseen circumstances are definitely worth at least getting into the budget to keep 'em on our radar, even if we don't allocate any dollars to them yet! 🌻 Hannah
I didn’t realize how much it was now either until I looked when my daughter just had her baby (she is almost exclusively pumping then bottle feeding since her baby was a preemie and the latch, then the process didn’t work oiut as expected). She has over a month supply extra. So whatever you can to breast feed/pump. But if it doesn’t work out, don’t feel bad. That happened with one of my two kids. Just budget for that formula!
My twins are 6 and I feel like I need a catergory for orthodontics now… to prepare. Because of you, I don’t have a savings anymore… I’m planned through August… almost September ❤️❤️
Oh my word, not a bad idea!! 😂 I had gappy teeth and my husband had BIG teeth, so we both went through braces/invisalign. Note taken! And YAY!! September is so far away!! You go, girl!! 🌻 Hannah
Yes, very smart! After we paid for my teenager's braces, we started a braces category for my three other kids and I was shocked how much it added up to! Saving $5000 for each by the age of 12 was over $200 per month! But most people that I know would finance and pay it off later and we are doing the work now!
Our ortho actually recommends bringing in kids between 6-8 years old for a visit. They can check their teeth, and sometimes just use a spacer, etc. instead of needing more expensive braces down the road. I wish I'd know that 6 years ago! And that visit is fairly cheap to free. You may want to check around.
Meal planning and freezer cooking have been a huge help. I'd suggest a meal planning category to pay for one of the services that does a lot of the planning for you after you pick your recipes! Huge time-saver 😊
Congratulations! Freezer meals are so handy, for our last we had a day with a friend and a couple of family members where we prepped about 37 meals (others have done more over more days, but freezer space needs to be considered). My second was born in 2020, and also woke frequently for a long time- I did so many middle of the night online purchases 😅 Hopefully your little stays well for a long time, but my 3rd got her first cold at only 2 weeks old 😢 So things like a thermometer, baby panadol, snotty boss etc can help feel like you're doing something when the little one is sick. I found a haaka super handy- was able to save some breast milk for emergencies (my sister did actually end up in ER a week post birth and wasn't allowed to breastfeed for 48 hours due to medication given) as none of my 3 ever took a bottle, plus can be used down the track to mix in with solids. Syringes! You can never have enough syringes, should be able to get from chemist/pharmacy, but stock up! All 3 are sick right now, and I'm sharing a syringe between 2 because I ran out- so many times I've been searching for a syringe and resorted to a spoon which they hate and so much more gets spilt. Btw, books are an excellent thing to put on gift registries and for all birthdays/occasions. All the best!
Not a bad idea! My sister mentioned getting laundry help at least the first few weeks was a game changer! I can believe it. Especially with the amount of dog hair our sweet little Julep can produce 😂😬 🌻 Hannah
7:29 -- to whoever your professional captioner is, I could understand her. She said "A little dresser, for his little clothes" ;) I doubt they'll see this and add it in but just thought I'd give that info just in case. Congratulations Hannah! So happy for you and this step on your journey. And oh cool, you linked an adoption budget resource. I'll definitely check that out! That's more relevant to my goals for the future.
Julep could've told them what I said-that's the only voice she hears me talk in! 😂 And SO glad you're gonna check out the adoption blog from Ernie! Hopefully we can build even more content on that in the future! 🌻 Hannah
Yay! Congrats. Diaper subscription service is a solid idea. My main advice for people who are having kids is: The answer to the question, "Should we stop and get some diapers?" is always "YES!" So you've got that taken care of. Oh, and make sure you get a rocker/glider that is comfortable enough to sleep in.
Ooooh, we just received a rocker on our doorstep last weekend!! No idea who it's from yet (I assume we'll find out at a baby shower), but MAN it IS comfy!! The whole back of it is just like one giant pillow. Very grateful to have it, because I imagine we'll be spending a LOT of time in it! 🌻 Hannah
@@YNABofficial Yep. Our babies are 15 and 12, and we still have our glider. I think the base has been replaced once on it already, and it's probably due for another.
Amazing!! That's a high quality build, right there! We jsut got one for the nursery, but I'm wondering if we should get another one for our bedroom, given the fact he'll be sleeping with us the first many months! Not a bad idea! 🌻 Hannah
Congrats!! 🎉🎉 I’m not a parent, but in addition to all the things you mentioned (and based on things I’ve observed my siblings spending on their kids), you may want to set a bit aside for things like a maternity photoshoot, baby photoshoot and/or the baby’s 1st birthday party. This definitely doesn’t fall in the perimeters of 100 years ago, however. Since new baby is a whole insane industry these days, those kids of things can have a shocking price tag (and you may want to find more budget friendly options), but those photos can be priceless
I have co-workers already saving for their babys first birthday!! I mean, WHY NOT!! It's not like birthday parties for little kids go away-there will only be MORE as more kids are added, so might as well build it into the budget now! And YES, the baby industry is insane and kind of hilarious. The things we moms will pay for... slap the word "baby" on it and we GOTTA HAVE IT. 🌻 Hannah
This is so exciting! Congratulations Hannah - you are going to be an amazing mother! One thing I can think of that you may want to budget for is professional photography. When I had my son so many years ago we received a package for a free photo shoot in our home of our new little bundle. When it was all said and done; we spend a few hundred on photo's because we just couldn't say no.
This is something I never would've thought of, but would LOVE!! I love those organic, in-home shoots that are just in your natural environment. I'll pitch the idea to Mac!! So fun! 🌻 Hannah
Congratulations Hannah, big exciting and daunting changes are afoot! Parenthood is wonderful, hard, fantastic, draining, exciting, and bewildering all at once and often within just a few minutes of time. Don't be afraid to accept help, especially as you find your way as a new Mum.
Pregnancy has definitely taught me that I can improve GREATLY in asking for help!! This is all great and grounding advice! Just trying to get as much sleep now as I can before... you know, it's not so abundant 🤪 🌻 Hannah
@@YNABofficial I give that advice as I was terrible as a first time Mum. Second time around I was only slightly better. No idea what I'd be like with a third chance as we're not going there at all! Two is enough for me, sometimes too much, but mostly wonderfully enough.
Congratulations!!!! My advice would be to trust your instincts, you have them for a reason. Wishing you and your growing family all the best. Thanks for sharing your wonderful news with us followers! 💜
I'm going through a big shave/re-budgeting/re-prioritizing time (and even a no spend month!!) for quite the opposite reason - and this video really helped! I never had kids but my 3 dogs and 2 cats ARE my kids. It hit me recently that they are ALL now seniors at the same time, and I need to seriously invest heavily into a vet/emergency/meds/end-of-life expense category. And p.s. love love every video - I even clicked on this one bc it was HIFH, even without any (human) babies in my life! You are very talented.
Congratulations Hannah! You might also want to start to save up for your baby. We started to save $100/month for our daughter before she was born and add any monetary gifts to her to that category. She is 9 now and has a fairly decent balance. The way school costs are, you might also investigate 529 plan. Regarding baby registry, some stores give you an option to buy items that nobody got you at a discount. Regarding HSA, see if you can avoid using it right now. I understand that this is what this plan is for, but more likely than not, you'll have a lot of expenses when you retire and HSA is a perfect vehicle to grow your $$ while you are still working. Just my 2¢ Again, congratulations!!!
We talked about this just last night! My grandparents bought a bond for each of us grandkids every year (sometimes little, sometimes bigger-just based on what they could afford at the time!), and we were given those when we graduated high school. Of course they still had to mature quite a bit, but it was so cool to think about these teeny tiny investments we each had being put into our name each year! Something we'd definitely like to do for our kids. Also yes, the 529 🥵 Stresses me out just THINKING about how much college will cost by the time our kids are grown. Maybe if we show them how long it took for us to save such a meager amount for their 529 they'll decide to do something else cheaper in place of a university 🤣 🌻 Hannah
Congratulations! Enjoy as your world acquires a beautiful new dimension! Savor every moment! Being a mom has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I wish the same for you and your husband!
Congratulations Hannah! If I had YNAB with my first we could have avoided some struggles - but we have it now and the categories have shifted and will continue to shift and I’m so glad I have it for where my family is now.
Awww congratulations Hannah!! So happy for you, 🙂 Also you have been our inspiration for getting our finances in order and now I can not imagine life without YNAB so thank you!
CONGRATS!! As a mama of four you are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime. So excited for you both. Praying for a healthy pregnancy and baby boy!! We can't wait to see him!!
Budget for baby - I didn’t know I needed: blackout curtains for the nursery, baby monitor with video, white noise sound machine and a sign for the front door when baby is napping.
The sign for the front door is not a bad idea! Too bad our dog Julep sees/hears EVERYONE and every THING coming up to the door before they'd even be able to read the sign-she's our doorbell 😂🐶 We did get a baby monitor AND a sound machine!! All great suggestions! 🌻 Hannah
Aaahhh! Congrats! I would consider budgeting for formula. Even if you don't plan to use it, you can't predict the future; your needs or physical ability may change.
Congrats! We are a queer couple and used donor sperm so had a robust category to purchase the sperm. We were very lucky that we got pregnant on round one of IUI so all that money went directly into a mega category just called baby needs. It's been working out great for us so far! Everything other than medical and childcare is coming out of the one category. It makes keeping up with budgeting so much easier with a newborn at home.
Oh, congratulations!! SO amazing to hear you had success right off the bat! That is so special and encouraging!! We also started with just a huge baby category, and it's slowwwly gotten split out into more granular, defined categories as we're realized them, jusssst to make sure we really have all we need to cover it all. But I'm sure we haven't even scratched the surface yet!! 🤪 🌻 Hannah
Congrats! My favorite purchase, and the one I give to most people is a Pocket Nanny. Sure, your cell does timers. But for $20ish? It makes it so much easy for both partners to keep track of baby's needs, with 4 times together. Especially when you are half awake trying to remember when Bingus last ate, or if Mac fed him or gave medicine, and when did he fall asleep again? Was it 1 or 2? And, surprisingly, it's something we still use on occasion with the teenager, so it lasts!
This is so cool!! I've never heard of it! Adding to my registry!! I love how simply it looks. So many apps kinda OVER complicate or give you way too many details to document. This is simple and looks awesome. Love it, thanks for sharing!! 🌻 Hannah
Placenta encapsulation, if you choose to do so Newborn photos (we have one of us tired as heck as our 2nd boy was born in Manhattan, ks and flown to Topeka asap, to the NICU for 30 days) Swaddles I wore baby a lot (especially around the house while cleaning and such) You really don't need much as they tell you to buy. It just clutters your home stresses you out. Like a changing table, we actually had several, including our bed and the couch 😂 By watching this video, I think your planning is going great. Not getting all the crap, just the basics. You just don't need it ❤ My gracious I have commented a lot! We have 3 boys. 11, 3, and 2. The younger 2 are still breastfeed, but will stop next month when the 3 year old turns 4. The younger 2 has never had baby food. They started eating real food around 5 months and jumped right in. Just remember that baby can sense your stress. Just relax and enjoy ALL the moments because they fly by so dang fast! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Hugs!!
LOL. I've found at least three of them!! 😂 The newborn photos aren't a bad idea!! And hey, we're practically neighbors!! Also planning to baby wear a lot-hopin' he likes being worn 🤣 And yes, we're learning simpler is better! And we can start with little and acquire what we might be missing along the way, but don't want to overload ourselves with "things" on the front end. AMAZING that you've been able to breastfeed so long!! Definitely wanting to learn about baby led weaning, as well. And YES-repeating many peaceful and worry-free mantras to myself during pregnancy as birth approaches, because I know he can feel my stress or anxiety even now. Doin' our best to keep ourselves calm and grounded over here! 🌻 Hannah
I knew it 🎉I was like the last several months Hannah’s pregnant ! So happy for you ! Mom of 4 now grown up men ! Never ever let finances dictate the size of your family ! I would have never had my boys if we listened to money … Glenda a loyal YNABer since 2010?
I love that 🥰 I come from a decent-sized family, and ALL my siblings have started having kids (up to ten nieces and nephews, at this point!), and it's been so inspiring to watch them raise their growing families no matter their income. One sister is raising five boys in a 1,500 square foot 1800's farmhouse!! While the house is small, they do a ton of homesteading on their three acres and the boys are constantly running amuck on the property-it's just a dream! So inspiring to know we can totally make it with what we have 🥰 🌻 Hannah
This is all such GREAT advice! Wish I'd been a YNABer when mine was on the way! Advice: BUY USED! Maternity clothes, baby gear, clothes - all that stuff that you'll only need for a little while is stuff that others only needed for a little while, so you can get stuff in excellent condition for a lot less. CONGRATULATIONS HANNAH! I think this is my favorite HIFH ever. :D
A thing I've been most fascinated by is how generous the "kids" community is! All my friends who have had babies, even in the past six months, are already lending us their newborn clothes or swings or gear their kiddos have grown out of. We were even given 80 brand new newborn-sized diapers by someone whose baby outgrew them before they finished the box! So grateful! And THANK YOU!! I'm sure we can expect many kid-related HIFHs to come!! 🌻 Hannah
🎉Congratulations!! 🎉 I’d tell you it will change your life - but you’ll have no idea until that little human arrives. First glance of Bingus, you’ll go … “Ahh, THAT’S what everybody’s talking about!” Nothing like it. And you just can’t put it into words. So very VERY happy for all three of you.
Oh, I'm anticipating it changing just about EVERYTHING! But we feel ready and excited! Can't even believe this stage of life is finally here?! Feels unreal! 🌻 Hannah
Best budget tip: Add a college saving category. I started saving for a 529 before our oldest was born. My husband though it was crazy but now our 5 year old is almost funded to where his account will grow to the goal without anymore contributions from us. Also, don't feel the need to fund everything in college. We left room for our kids to earn scholarships and/or work to do some of it themselves. And 529s can go to all kinds of education, not just traditional 4 year universities.
WHAAAT?!? It'll grow to where you want it to be with NO more contributions?!? Wow, I had no idea they were THAT GOOD. We'll definitely need to look into it. Coming from a bigger family, I went the cheap community college route and finished out my bachelors at an affordable online school while working the whole time, because we were all financially on our own as far as post-high school education went. But my husband has always wanted our kids to have the full, four-year, on-campus experience like he had. It's hard to swallow the cost of what college will cost 18 years from now (my gosh, I can't even think about it 🥵), but the more we can do now to help get them at least part way there is huge!! And knowing it can be used for OTHER educational opportunities too is just the icing on the cake! I'm hoping trade schools and alternative career paths are more popular come 2040 😅 🌻 Hannah
@@YNABofficial It is just normal growth of the stock market but the earlier and more you invest the sooner you can set it and forget it. Trade schools are so under valued currently but that just makes it all the better for individuals who want to take that path. It is wild to think about what the world will look like when out kids grow up (I'll have 3 graduate between 2036 and 2040). Again, congrats on the new addition. It will be the best, most difficult and most rewarding thing you have ever done.
Amazing! Well, I think we'll try to hop right on that, even if our contributions are little for now. And YES! I've heard again and again all those words to describe parenthood! We're feeling excited and a healthy amount of totally unprepared 😂 I figure that makes us normal 🤪 🌻 Hannah
Recommend stocking up the doggie daycare category. I got left alone with my baby and my parents’ 10 month old puppy for a month - let’s just say I really wish I’d had money for that (and nice doggie home boarding for respite). Listening to you really made me wish I’d had YNAB when I had my baby. Congrats!! 🎉
Luckily we budget pretty well for boarding and daycare for Julep!! We've also invested in Julep's ability to be independent, so she has a fenced backyard with a doggy door (she goes outside probably 30 times a day, sometimes just to sun bathe! She loves it!) and even an automatic dog food feeder which I'm kind of embarrassed to admit has been AMAZING. Keeps her feeding schedule consistent and even has a slow feed feature that's been super awesome. We're also gonna get her one of those water bowls that has a huge jug of water on top so she never runs out of water, because that girl CRUISES through water in the summer!! With all that, she practically takes care of herself now, outside of walks, which I'm happy to take her and the baby on every day! Gotta get that sunshine and exercise!! 🌻 Hannah
Thank you for putting this together! My partner and I are still in the "thinking about maybe having a future human" stage of things and I'm *already* thinking about the budget. This video was so helpful because, as you mentioned, google writ large was not! If you have an updated version, I'd be psyched to hear about it!
Congrats Hannah, Mac, and Julep! One thing I haven't seen mentioned (and not exactly budget related): Talk to parents in your area that you trust to get recommendations for a pediatrician, including why they recommend them. Choosing a professional partner in your child's health and wellness is no small thing, and while you can always change if you are not happy with their care, how lovely if they can develop a relationship with Bingus right from the start?
Yes!! We actually just did this last week!! Found a pediatrician we feel REALLY great about and are super stoked to get working with. Though, of course, I hope we need to see them as little as possible 😂 But it's at least nice to feel a sense of trust that our values align from the very start! 🌻 Hannah
Haha..had a suspicion about this a while back based on things you’ve mentioned in your videos. Congratulations to you and your husband!🎉 🎉🎉 Hope the remainder of the pregnancy and the delivery goes well. Not a parent, but grew up surrounded by so many babies in the family till now. The things that take up a lot of money would definitely be diapers, baby formula, and baby clothes. They might even outgrow the clothes before you get a chance to have the baby wear them at least once. All the best with the baby!
I think you're right. I'm definitely more low-tox minded, and getting CLEAN disposable diapers issss... a budget buster for sure. We already started budgeting for those a few months ago because it's a big priority for me! Luckily, I had some friends who had some pretty big babies (one was 10lbs 15oz!! 🥵) who never even fit into the newborn onesies they bought for them, so we inherited some of those which I'm SO grateful for! 😂 I'm already mentally preparing to do MORE laundry in an effort to buy LESS clothes, but I know we'll need way more clothes than I probably think. But THANK YOU!! It's feeling right around the corner! 🌻 Hannah
Congratulations! You may have said this in the video and I missed it, but you could budget for Bingus’s education. Picture books, videos, other developmentally appropriate educational stuff for infants. 😊
Niiiiice! Smart. We haven't even thought about that or toys or anything... I just we're just assuming he'll start out easily entertained with pretty little, and we'll grow his "educational resources" as he grows up. One thing I've been very interested in is the Lovevery play kits!! You get a new one every 2 or 3 months I think, and the toys inside align with what they're learning developmentally at that stage-too cool. Could be an easy trick for his brand new little brain to combine learning and play time! 🌻 Hannah
@@YNABofficial Back when we had babies, we played Baby Einstein videos. I was also an elementary teacher when our first child was born, so I was literally reading picture books to him while he was in the womb, the day he was born, etc. and the same with his brother and sister. ☺️ They all turned out pretty well, but that’s mostly from their mom’s genes. 🤓
Omg I totally missed this vid! Congratulations Hannah!❤ Love seeing your adjustments on the budget... we did the same things 2 years ago when we were expecting our first and our second daughter will arrive in september. Our "baby tax" has certainly increased, but the fact we don't have to buy everything again makes it soooo much easier this time!
THANKS! Still not entirely sure what we're doing, but glad YNAB gives us the flexibility to prepare in the ways we know how and totally shift when we learn what it ACTUALLY costs to bring a baby home. And yes, I definitely tried to invest in items that will LAST many babies so it's much cheaper the next time around!! Baby showers were also SUCH a blessing!! 🌻 Hannah
Congratulations! Highly recommend you save, save, save. You would be surprised how hard it is to give your baby to a stranger and return to work. I cried every day that I dropped my first son off at daycare... for 3 years. Until we could afford for me to stay home! We have 3 boys now and I'm so thankful we could make it work but it was never part of the plan! My point is, things change and you can never save too much. Also, babies don't need as much as you'd think. Just pass on the wipe warmers.
This! All of this!! That's really what we're trying to do. Luckily, I am SO blessed to work for YNAB because we're all remote workers, meaning I can have a sitter come to OUR house every day to take care of him while I work in the next room over, instead of having to drop him off at a daycare everyday. I haven't even MET him yet and I don't think I could ever possibly do that... it sounds so hard and vulnerable and emotional!! Very grateful to work somewhere that is SO family-forward!! 🥰🥰 🌻 Hannah
Congratulations, Hannah! I don’t have kids so no useful tips other than that a friend of mine was recently telling me how she was so glad she got an appointment with a photographer to take some family and newborn photos and she has gone to the same photographer around the time of other milestones since then.
A few people have mentioned this! If we have money left in our baby category after we've locked in all the necessities, we might consider scooping some aside for this! That's something I would never think of until it was far too late, so this is a great suggestion. 🌻 Hannah
Congratssssssss... Hannah you are just awesome! Baby Bingus will have the coolest mom!! Enjoy your pregnancy and this ride incredible called motherhood...🚼👶👩🍼
Oh my goodness great news, Congratulations to you, Mac & Julep. Tip, a doggie trainer may be needed to help adjusting Julep to baby.. And there may be baby consignments in your area here in Minnesota we have Once Upon A Child. I purchased and sold most of my son's clothes and furniture as he grew.
Thank you! Someone else had suggested training for Julep-we have a LOT of new expenses now, but it's definitely something we should consider, for sure!! We've been super curious how she'll react to a new little human in the house. And I was also happy to find out we had a brand new new+used maternity clothing store open up in our town this spring!! DEFINITELY going to hit that up, because maternity clothes are used for suuuuch a short season-getting used would be the best! Gotta keep an eye out for baby consignment stores, too! 🌻 Hannah
I'm REALLY enjoying watching your life unfold through these budgeting videos! Wow! Your videos are so great, you are funny AND make your points really clear, I just started budgeting with YNAB a couple weeks ago, already want to quit I am so overwhelmed, but because of your videos and the great resources available like the workshops, I'm determined to make this work! Thanks again your videos are amazing!!
🥹🥹🥹 So encouraged by this!! It can be SO hard to start a new thing, but I promise the investment is worth it-it's been a life changer for us, especially when HUGE life changing events like this one pop up!! Thank you so much for sharing your journey with me, and I'll keep the content comin'! 🥰🥰 🌻 Hannah
I've had many realistic conversations about the cost of kids with co-workers and families and it has been GROUNDING to say the least. We're definitely trying to think ahead and do all we can to prepare and keep it cash only! Staying optimistic until reality hits 😂 🌻 Hannah
I knew it! Congratulations! Yes, daycare is YIKES, but fortunately it gets cheaper the older they get. There will be so much trial and error, perhaps having a category to help absorb some of that cost will make it a little easier for you!
Amazing news! Congratulations. I highly recommend Haakaa pump in case of milk overproduction and Spectra pump if you want to have some milk in the freezer
Haha, I'm pregnant too (due date in two weeks and so far we only got one category for the baby called 🍼 Baby Stuff with the exact emoji as you, Hannah 😁😁😁 We than three everything in it... classes, courses, vitamins, stroller, bassinet, clothing, just everything 😅 I'm wondering already, how we will change it, once our baby arrives ❤ Congratulations Hannah on this wonderful news...🥰 I already suspected a couple videos back, but didn't say anything of course 😉
Haha, so many are saying they also had suspicions! Hilarious, y'all are so intuitive! And yes-honestly, we might realize our budget categories are _too_ granular and end up condensing them into more broad categories. Who knows! I think I've found over the years that having more granular categories gives me more peace of mind knowing everything is "accounted for" and that we have enough to fund it all, but it can also be a lot to keep up with! So we'll just have to wait and see! 🙃 🌻 Hannah
WOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU! I just remember watching you talk about the wedding and everything, and thinking Julep would be the forever baby but looking now I'm honestly happy as heck. Para social relationships am I right? 😅😂 But seriously congrats to you and the hubby
Right?! It wasn't that long ago, which is the crazy part!! Our little guy might've jumped the gun a little bit, but we're pretty darn excited and feeling ready to meet him! 🌻 Hannah
Congratulations! My budget category: babysitters. Not just childcare, but a sitter for when you want to go out. Probably won't use for a few months after Baby Bingus is born (at least) but trust me, you do not want to need a night out and then have to move money around to pay your sitter.
You're absolutely right! I can't believe we hadn't thought of that yet! And babysitting is EXPENSIVE these days! I used to get paid $6 an hour for watching peoples kids and now it's doubled!! 🌻 Hannah
We're doing the best we know how, which turns out right now is pretty little! 😂 But we have lots of family and friends with great advice and experience that can help us walk this brand new season! Feeling blessed. 😇 🌻 Hannah
Definitely budget for a few lactation consults and some massages. Borrow and get used on some of those equipment items. Some are used for only a short period.
Ahhhh, massaaaaaage 🤤 I can't even imagine a day where I could lay on my belly again 😂 But yes, I've heard lactation consultants are a must!! Luckily I've also got four sisters and sisters-in-law who have all successfully breastfed, so I feel like I'm in really good company!! 🌻 Hannah
Thank you!! Pregnancy has been absolutely wild and mind blowing. I keep thinking, "there's no way this is real!" We're so grateful and blessed! 🌻 Hannah
Super exciting new season and great video! We are planning for baby #2 and I’d love to check out the blog posts you mentioned but don’t see them linked in the description.
Love magnesium flake bathes. Earthley makes a non toxic lotion called good night lotion that is magnesium based. I would rub it all over my belly before I went to bed and it saved the last half of my third pregnancy. It was getting to the point that I wasn't sleeping that well and getting that extra magnesium totally helped ❤
Ohhh gurrrrl, I am all up in that non-toxic living space. LOVE that! I've been using a magnesium lotion at night because sleep has never come easy to me, even pre-pregnancy 😩 I've seen Earthley a bunch and just haven't looked into it, yet! Looks like they have TONS of awesome baby products at super reasonable prices. On the registry it goes!! 🌻 Hannah
So I have a category for a company called Simply Earth. I subscribe to their subscription box and they send you recipes and everything you need to make homemade products with essential oils and different carrier oils. You can do makeup, bath stuff, cleaning stuff, and even what to diffuse and dilutions for kids as well. So for me, that's important and I really don't spend any money on household items. Household items if we do need it is in our grocery budget. So on my boys when they were babies I only used a Norwex body cloth and didn't use soaps as much.
Okay, that's amaaaazing. I've been a Norwex user in the past and would love to get back to it-why not just keep cleanliness simple?! VERY cool subscription service, I'll have to look into it! 🌻 Hannah
Having raised kids, I can tell you all I had were a baby bag, bottles, diapers, and wipes. They had a small crib and about 10 outfits. I didn't get a bunch of other stuff. I didn't get a stroller or car seat because I carried him everywhere (no car). That was it.
Agh!! Is there going to be a more loved baby ever in the whole world?? No!! Not budget advice necessarily but please be patient with yourself, each other, and Bingus!!! (He’s never done this either, so you’re all learning on the job!)
Oh Em Gee! Congratulations Hannah! I feel so invested in this entire baby. I watched you grow up. 🤗 😂 I LOVED wearing overalls when I was pregnant. 🙌🏽 I wasted money on too much clothing. I loved my favorite outfits and then didn’t use outfits I thought were too cute. Well, she grew outta the clothes before even really wearing them. 😢 Lots of onesies were just fine. We stayed home a lot and didn’t need to look stylish to do that. Target has a brand of clothing that you can return as they grow out of it (it wasn’t available to me for my child).

Love that category name!! Almost like a "baby season emergency fund," but for much smaller emergencies 😛 Great tip!!

CONGRATULATIONS HANNAH!!!
I think she'll likely be pretty protective of the baby as well, and just hoping Baby Bingus can learn to sleep through the barks 😬🙃
🌻 Hannah
That’s amazing! I think some ideas from a trainer could be handy just in case, but I bet everything will go really well. Julep is a good girl.
@@bestcee my kiddo has a missing tooth so, we are already there… hence the budget category
Meal planning and freezer cooking have been a huge help. I'd suggest a meal planning category to pay for one of the services that does a lot of the planning for you after you pick your recipes! Huge time-saver 😊
Ooh, good point! I need to start looking up some freezer meals and get some tasty ones cued up!! Thanks for the tip!
🌻 Hannah
Congratulations! Freezer meals are so handy, for our last we had a day with a friend and a couple of family members where we prepped about 37 meals (others have done more over more days, but freezer space needs to be considered).
My second was born in 2020, and also woke frequently for a long time- I did so many middle of the night online purchases 😅
Hopefully your little stays well for a long time, but my 3rd got her first cold at only 2 weeks old 😢 So things like a thermometer, baby panadol, snotty boss etc can help feel like you're doing something when the little one is sick.
Congratulations 🎉 Think about planning for a house cleaning service during the first months post birth. So much stress removed!
Not a bad idea! My sister mentioned getting laundry help at least the first few weeks was a game changer! I can believe it. Especially with the amount of dog hair our sweet little Julep can produce 😂😬
🌻 Hannah
Congratulations! As the father of three adult children, I can tell you, they are EXPENSIVE. And the new unplanned expenses are never ending.
Lovvvvve that 😂🥵 Bring it on, I guess! 🙃

So fun!

Congratulations Hannah! Best wishes for this exciting new chapter for you and your husband -- and child.

Just trying to get as much sleep now as I can before... you know, it's not so abundant 🤪

@@YNABofficial I give that advice as I was terrible as a first time Mum. Second time around I was only slightly better. No idea what I'd be like with a third chance as we're not going there at all! Two is enough for me, sometimes too much, but mostly wonderfully enough.

Just my 2¢
Again, congratulations!!!
Maybe if we show them how long it took for us to save such a meager amount for their 529 they'll decide to do something else cheaper in place of a university 🤣

Congratulations! I had an idea based on your getting rid of the emergency fund video! You will be a great mom! ❤
HA! I was shocked how many guessed baby just from that one sentence. You guys... 😏

Aaahhh! Congrats!
I would consider budgeting for formula. Even if you don't plan to use it, you can't predict the future; your needs or physical ability may change.
Someone else suggested this! Wise!!

How exciting! Congrats Hannah!
Awwwww congrats Hannah and Mr Hannah! Made up for you both ❤❤❤

🌻 Hannah
🌻 Hannah
🌻 Hannah
Congratulations Hannah and husband!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Placenta encapsulation, if you choose to do so
Newborn photos (we have one of us tired as heck as our 2nd boy was born in Manhattan, ks and flown to Topeka asap, to the NICU for 30 days)
Swaddles
I wore baby a lot (especially around the house while cleaning and such)
You really don't need much as they tell you to buy. It just clutters your home stresses you out. Like a changing table, we actually had several, including our bed and the couch 😂
By watching this video, I think your planning is going great. Not getting all the crap, just the basics. You just don't need it ❤
My gracious I have commented a lot!
Also planning to baby wear a lot-hopin' he likes being worn 🤣
And yes, we're learning simpler is better!

So inspiring to know we can totally make it with what we have 🥰
🌻 Hannah

I'm hoping trade schools and alternative career paths are more popular come 2040 😅
🌻 Hannah
We're feeling excited and a healthy amount of totally unprepared 😂 I figure that makes us normal 🤪

🌻 Hannah
❤ You’ve totally got this! You’re really going to thank your earlier self for all this. 🎉
🥰🐶🥰
🌻 Hannah
Thank you for putting this together! My partner and I are still in the "thinking about maybe having a future human" stage of things and I'm *already* thinking about the budget. This video was so helpful because, as you mentioned, google writ large was not! If you have an updated version, I'd be psyched to hear about it!
I’m so happy to hear this. Congratulations.

Love seeing your adjustments on the budget... we did the same things 2 years ago when we were expecting our first and our second daughter will arrive in september.

🌻 Hannah
@@YNABofficial That's amazing! It's good to know we won't be losing our favorite ynab personality too :) Congrats again!
I didn’t even finish watching the video but CONGRATS!! I’m so happy for you 🥰 you’re going to be such a fun mom
THANK YOU!! We sure *hope* we're fun 🤪😂

🌻 Hannah
Congratulations Hannah. I am so happy for you. You are going to add even more categories for that little one.
Oh, I am SURE of it!! Thanks so much, Jennifer!!
🌻 Hannah
Congratulations Hannah and Mac
congratulations hannah!!!
Congratulations! I thought that was a big hint a couple of episodes ago (about new budget categories) :-)
😂 I wasn't meaning for it to be a hint, but many people seemed to catch on anyway! 🙃
🌻 Hannah
Hurray! CONGRATULATIONS!! ❤️
Congratssssssss... Hannah you are just awesome! Baby Bingus will have the coolest mom!! Enjoy your pregnancy and this ride incredible called motherhood...🚼👶👩🍼
😭 You are so kind!! It's actually been a VERY great and smooth and dare I say easy pregnancy so far, so I've just been so grateful!!
🌻 Hannah
Congratulations Hannah!!! So happy for you both🎉🎉🎉🎉
Oh my goodness great news, Congratulations to you, Mac & Julep.

🌻 Hannah
Wonderful! Congratulations!! My kids are all grown, and I was in debt until they were out of the nest. This was amazing.
I've had many realistic conversations about the cost of kids with co-workers and families and it has been GROUNDING to say the least. We're definitely trying to think ahead and do all we can to prepare and keep it cash only! Staying optimistic until reality hits 😂
🌻 Hannah
I knew that was the big change you spoke about in a previous video! Congratulations!!
Haha, you guys are little detectives!! I had no idea I was giving myself away so easily!
🌻 Hannah
I knew it! Congratulations! Yes, daycare is YIKES, but fortunately it gets cheaper the older they get.
There will be so much trial and error, perhaps having a category to help absorb some of that cost will make it a little easier for you!
Thanks!! Love the trial and error absorption category! Not a bad idea!
🌻 Hannah
Amazing news! Congratulations. I highly recommend Haakaa pump in case of milk overproduction and Spectra pump if you want to have some milk in the freezer
Registered for the first! Haven't looked into the second because... overwhelmed by that world 🥵😂
🌻 Hannah
Best "how to bring a baby into the world" financial video ever. Entertaining, funny and helpful.
Well, THANK YOU!! Hopefully it actually pays off in the end! (no pun intended 🤣)
🌻 Hannah
Haha, I'm pregnant too (due date in two weeks and so far we only got one category for the baby called 🍼 Baby Stuff with the exact emoji as you, Hannah 😁😁😁 We than three everything in it... classes, courses, vitamins, stroller, bassinet, clothing, just everything 😅 I'm wondering already, how we will change it, once our baby arrives ❤
Congratulations Hannah on this wonderful news...🥰 I already suspected a couple videos back, but didn't say anything of course 😉
🌻 Hannah
Wonderful news! Congratulations!
🌻 Hannah
Thanks for sharing!! I’m so happy for you! You’re already doing great, and I know you’ll continue to rock it! Life is tough and so are you 💗
We're doing the best we know how, which turns out right now is pretty little! 😂 But we have lots of family and friends with great advice and experience that can help us walk this brand new season! Feeling blessed. 😇
🌻 Hannah
Definitely budget for a few lactation consults and some massages. Borrow and get used on some of those equipment items. Some are used for only a short period.
Ahhhh, massaaaaaage 🤤 I can't even imagine a day where I could lay on my belly again 😂 But yes, I've heard lactation consultants are a must!! Luckily I've also got four sisters and sisters-in-law who have all successfully breastfed, so I feel like I'm in really good company!!
🌻 Hannah
Congratulations! You will be wonderful parents! Enjoy the miracle of new life!
Thank you!! Pregnancy has been absolutely wild and mind blowing. I keep thinking, "there's no way this is real!" We're so grateful and blessed!
🌻 Hannah
Thrilled for you congratulations 😊
Congratulations. Best reason to change your budget ever.
Agreed!! Not cheap, but the best reason!!
🌻 Hannah

Super exciting new season and great video! We are planning for baby #2 and I’d love to check out the blog posts you mentioned but don’t see them linked in the description.
Hey Monique!! YES, working on getting them linked, they'll be up in a bit! Sorry for the delay!! And CONGRATS!! We're in this together!!
🌻 Hannah
Linked!!

Congratulations. So happy for you!
Congratulations! This is lovely news.

🌻 Hannah
Aww! Congratulations 🎉💖 I’m glad you’re bumping up the healthcare categories
Oh, ya gotta do it. Can't take care of myself enough knowing everything I do impacts our little guy, too!
🌻 Hannah
Having raised kids, I can tell you all I had were a baby bag, bottles, diapers, and wipes. They had a small crib and about 10 outfits. I didn't get a bunch of other stuff. I didn't get a stroller or car seat because I carried him everywhere (no car). That was it.
Congrats Hannah!!
Congrats!!!!!
How lovely! Congratulations!
Congratulations!! That is awesome news, and a fantastic vlog for other parents to be ❤
Thank you Liz!! We can't wait!! 🥰🥰
🌻 Hannah
Congratulations Hannah!!! 🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Agh!! Is there going to be a more loved baby ever in the whole world?? No!!
Not budget advice necessarily but please be patient with yourself, each other, and Bingus!!! (He’s never done this either, so you’re all learning on the job!)
... AND with Julep 😂 We'll probably have to remind ourselves of this daily! Thanks for the encouragement!!
🌻 Hannah
Oh Em Gee! Congratulations Hannah! I feel so invested in this entire baby. I watched you grow up. 🤗 😂
I LOVED wearing overalls when I was pregnant. 🙌🏽
I wasted money on too much clothing.
😂😂 I love this comment so much! Thank you!!
