  • Meigetsuin Temple was a sub-temple of the larger Zenkoji Temple which was founded by Hojo Tokimune and closed at the beginning of the Meiji period. The founding patron was Uesugi Norikata and the first chief priest was Misshitsu Shugon. The thousands of hydrangea plants which cover the temple grounds are spectacular, and when they come into season the temple becomes bustling with people. This temple is part of the Kenchō-ji branch of the Rinzai Sect.
    HOW TO GET THERE:
Meigetsuin can be reached in a ten minute walk from Kita-Kamakura Station.
