    did some research and bought my first kinda modular fidget spinner couple of days ago, has an R188 bearing in it, which I didn't know existed before I took it apart to clean out and properly lube the bearing first thing after I got it. it was kind of sad because I have an army of great ceramic/hybrid-ceramic and steel 608 bearings from skating which I originally intended to use for spinner toys aswell, but now I am in this predicament that I love the r188 bearing and I'll probably end up having an expensive collection of these over the years. most of the time they come in bulk so ehm I guess I need some fidget spinner enthusiast friends in my area now lmao

      Stu's Reviews the ceramic bearings are only for small kinds, because if you use ceramic on vehicle wheel bearings it will shatter

    The thing that you are calling a race is actually called a cage. If it is made of metal, it is called a retainer. For the full ceramic 608 bearing, the cage is made of some sort of plastic or rubber, not ceramic. You could push the cage out of your full black hybrid ceramic bearing or the steel bearing (the 608 sized ones) and put it into the full ceramic bearing to get much longer and smoother spin. Those things that clip onto the top and bottoms of the bearings are called seals. If they are made of metal they are called shields.

    • @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS
      @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS  7 лет назад +1

      thanks for clarification, my mistake on race/cage as i thought the full incased bearing holder was called cage. the white was advertised as full ceramic. i just wanted to clear up many of the pm questions of bearings.
      thank you again for helping
      Dave

      Dave's World white and black both are ceramic. white one is called as zro2 zicronium dioxide and black is si3n4 which is silicon nitride. the first bearing is zro2/si3n4. also I had a question, the retainer which I have in my spinner is a transparent rubber like thing while the balls are white ceramic and the inner and outer race is stainless steel. wanted to know does having that kinda retainer affects or not as it doesn't have a ceramic retainer

    • @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS
      @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for info, I don't think the material of retainer should effect unless applying high friction.

    Dave's World hey man any idea if a caged r188 bearing will reduce the wobble I experience on my torqbar or stubby? The ones in them now have play on the inner race which I get is normal but I was just wondering if there was less play in the caged style. Thanks.

    • @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS
      @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS  7 лет назад +1

      +Roland Koller by cage you mean part that holds the bearings, yes that will greatly reduce wobble.

    Do you have any thoughts on some options for 688 bearings? Many of my spinners use them (esp. the ones made in China) and I'm seeking comparable bearings for different performance/feedback etc. such as speed, spin times, silence etc. One Drop doesn't make a 688 sadly, so finding a smooth/silent option for a 688 has been a challenge (gonna try sewing machine oil but a bearing with more balls and the right materials for ideal smoothness would be better). Most of what I've found are either hybrid (usually silicon nitride based) or chrome steel with a few stainless steel options. I basically want some diverse options for diverse performance/feedback etc. so that I can choose what I want for each spinner rather than being locked into just one or two styles/options.

    • @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS
      @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS  7 лет назад

      +xyz360400 i don't have to many with that size but I know most people are swapping out and using adapters now they are available to use r188. I usually use drop of oil in my spinners to silence them since those I truly fidget with and not long spin times.

      I used it on my pinewood derby car wheels back in cub scouts and it made a huge difference. I just picked up a can from TSC and was going to give it a try. What I used back then was a dry tube but this is a aerosol can. I will wait for your "cleaning video" first and might just test it.

    This was a very well thought out and put together a video. The only thing it was lacking was one of those weird pliers capable of taking measurements so that you could've told us the inner diameter and the outer diameter of the R188. lol maybe a mini scale to get the weight of each one. But that might've been going a little too far.

    Hi there Dave, You seem to have a lot of knowledge when it comes to spinners and the bearings and as such I have a question I hope you'll be able to answer.....
    I've got a small collection of spinners, Most of them the standard ABS spinners but the others are some pretty nice metal spinners which I think all have that smallest R188 bearing within them, My question is>> Why is it that a spinner will sometimes feel or even perhaps at times sound "rough" when you haven't been spinning it for a say a day or so??
    I sometimes find that my spinners weather they are plastic or metal spinners, That they seem to feel like they have a rough vibration which in turn makes them have more noise level when spinning them fast.... It just seems very odd to me.... Shouldn't a spinner especially a high quality metal spinner spin just as good as the first few times you've used it being that you take care of it in terms of not dropping etc.....
    Appreciate your or anyone else's help who have knowledge on this.... Thank you.

    • @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS
      @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS  7 лет назад +1

      +Ash Lewis thanks for the question, sometimes be it high end or cheap the bearing just isn't great but sometimes even light debre in the bearing, lint etc can cause issues. I suggest multi cleaning bearing.
      A dry clean bearing will not be as silent as one with some oil, but the one with oil won't spin as long so it's a trade off.
      In general bearings need a break in period and after cleaning I find you have to go through again once cleaned.
      Hope this helped.
      Dave

      Dave's World - Hello there Dave, Thank you kindly for taking the time to reply I do appreciate that. I've found the couple of videos I've seen on your channel interesting & as such have subscribed to your channel.
      And back to your answer to my question, The one thing that stood out was how you were saying that bearings needs some breaking in & I assume as such that means sometimes between use they can sound a little rough or as I said perhaps vibration and it's not till they've been used more they smooth out.
      My favorite spinner that I got from Spinnercraft is what they call the Executive, It's a very impressive spinner with a high quality feel, spin time is very smooth & fast even with its weight it's just a great spinner, Maybe one you'd like to try but it's my favorite outta my collection.
      Feel free to reply & thanks for your time. :)

    • @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS
      @STARSHADOWWOODWORKS  7 лет назад +1

      +Ash Lewis thanks fir the support. I actually did review on executive from spinnercraft along with about 5 others of that style. They are a C3 ZENTRI.
      Dave

    • @TheRoosters01
      @TheRoosters01 7 лет назад

      Dave's World - Yeh sure thing no problem, What's this "C3 Zentri" you mentioned is that another bearing of some kind?.....Perhaps this is why the Executive has such a consistent smooth & overall quiet spin time....
      But yeh excluding the "Executive" and the "Hex Baller" from Spinnercraft, Most of my other spinners that aren't from Spinnercraft I find some times have this sound of rattling...
      Either that or as I mentioned others can have this rough vibration as if there's something rubbing together creating that which in turn also makes the sound....
      It's rather irritating but not a big deal, It's annoying and wish there was a simple way to correct all this.....
