    Aren't humans the most invasive species? Are we not the ones who take over other species habitats,and introduce new creatures to all areas of the world?

    This is circular reasoning you're presenting.
    “Invasive species” is a colonial social-economic construct. The concept that a species “doesn’t belong” or is “unnatural” or “outcompeting” isn’t based in ecological rationale so much as social judgements. That it depends on a species being “non native” (also a bullshjt term) adds to the flimsiness of it all. One can easily make a case that many species which have been in an area since before the magical threshold of 1491 “outcompete” others - solidago and pinus strobus to name but two in this region. It’s time we move beyond this tired rhetoric and judgement about who is good and bad in an ecosystem and toward a place of recognizing the sovereignty of all species and their role as responses to conditions. Invasion biology comes into existence because we see ecosystems resource-centrically. When relating to our ecosystems without resource value judgements the concept of invasiveness ceases to exist.

      Thankyou; I started working at a Native plant center ; and we had to pull invasive weeds; I’m actually was learning permaculture before this and thought about how we saw “weeds” or plants who are considered nonnative ; we humans often do invasive things ourselves to disturbed and affect ecosystems so I found it hypocritical to completely label nonnatives “ invasive” or dangerous without understanding.

      I mean they were clovers were example and I thought what makes one invasive? It it being no native or what they do?

    • @speedos
      @speedos 4 месяца назад

      Why should we relate to our ecosystems without resource value judgements?
      I agree that "native" and "non native" is a nonsensical dichotomy, but I believe species that rapidly take over habitat but provide almost no value to anyone are invasive, and that such a thing can be objectively judged, why not? i have a bunch of weeds in my garden. they wrap around other plants, quickly take over entire growing spots and suck all the nutrients out the soil, bugs don't benefit from them, animals don't eat them. why should i not call these invasive, pull them out, and throw them into my compost?
      Where did you get the idea that "invasive species" is a colonial construct? - Colonialists are literally invasive.

    • @wholesystems
      @wholesystems 4 месяца назад

      @@speedos I am not saying we should not value resources in ecosystems, I certainly do. But the current zeal for the native/invasive binary rides alone on that, usually without even bringing it up and saying it’s actually ecologically-based.

    • @wholesystems
      @wholesystems 4 месяца назад

      @@speedos nothing sucks all the nutrients out of soil but a bulldozer or over irrigating. Nothing is not eaten by other species except perhaps some synthetic materials for a period of time. This is nativist zeal only to even suggest such extreme ideas.

      The Invasive Species does harm, to the native ecosystem.

    • @Syrax3221
      @Syrax3221 6 месяцев назад

      Invasion is not justifiable. You must respect each healthy ecosystem as they are present, and even heal or control other ecosystems if necessary. The earth is in rough shape with all this land being poisoned by 2 billion metric tons of garbage. The Native Americans, my people, would not have let this happen.

    What's the difference between an invasive species, and diversity and inclusion? Besides one being a strength and the other being unwanted.

    • @swhseaglehandler
      @swhseaglehandler Год назад +2

      The difference is one is a scientific phenomenon that occurs in nature and the other is is a altruistic, nuanced, sociological concept that humans developed to take care of each other. Humans tend to be a little different than insects and pests, and trying to compare the two is dehumanizing, xenophobic, and harmful. This is simply an educational video, your political opinions are not wanted nor needed here. Please try to be kind, it makes a world of difference.
