I’m a 58 year old Cold War era Army Veteran, was stationed in Ft. Sill in Oklahoma. Out in the field, around 03:00, I’d sometimes see or hear strange things or sounds. I remember one time my buddy and I on guard duty, seen 5-6 men in Native American clothing from the 1800’s come out of some woods and charge us, then just fade out before they got to where we were. It was the spookiest yet coolest thing I’ve ever experienced paranormally. We just looked at each other wide eyed and agreed to not mention it to anyone. Few days later heard someone mention that they had seen the same thing, nobody wanted that guard duty shift while bivouacked in that area

Ft Sill does get a little bit exciting. I never had any kind of "experience" any where on Ft Sill proper, or around the western impact areas. The eastern side, well that's another story entirely. Geronimo's burial site... What could possibly happen? Our Barracks were right near I40 N on ramp so there was usually noise. Sometimes though, it got eeriely quiet and all my senses felt like electricity. It was never any kind of decent or calm feeling on the air. Incredible anger. And it always felt like danger.

Thank you for your service! You guys don't get nearly enough appreciation. As for the story, I'm pretty much agnostic in every aspect of life, so paranormal things aren't always accepted by me. But if this is true, it is most likely one of two things. A: hallucinations, caused by anything 🤷. Maybe lack of sleep, or possibly chemicals in the air or food eaten. That's the most "logical" explanation. But it could very well be option B. My first thought was maybe it is the ghosts or spirits of Native Americans who lived on the land years ago, possibly killed either directly or indirectly by colonizers and people who wanted their land. They may have been angry at people camping where they once lived.

This is one of my stories during land nav, but it's the scariest encounter with the unknown I've ever had. During land nav they had us doing night time navigation in pairs, we both had red lights to help us see. As we made our way to the designated LZ I spotted something so I raised my hand for the other guy and me to stop. It's eyes glowed in the dark, it was pale and stretched out. Eventually after a hot staring contest it left us alone, but as we walked and made our way through the forest I could swear it was following us. As we approached a clearing. I saw it in treeline next to us. At this point I was sure it wasn't something I wanted to get to know, so as we walked into the clearing we started to run because at that point we were about half a mile to the designated LZ. As we reached the clearing we could hear it running. UT managed to get in front of us, it knocked my buddy down but he got up and booked it to the clearing. We managed to get put, but it was clear the other guys were in a hurry to get out so I'm pretty sure this happened to them too.

    Love these stories.
as a civilian i've had 1 encounter of these, sadly no one believes it due to where i live and they shouldn't exist here i'm told but i dont care, me or my dog that alerted me of it even was near us, i heard nothing, my dog just growled behind us as i was walking it and when i turned on the flashlight, i wish i hadn't, or maybe cause i did im alive still, this "Rake" was 100m/33ft away just mid crawl standing still, illuminated by my light, it was... weird, like it thought if being still i couldn't see it? i just walked backward the next 200m slowly with my dog keeping both our eyes fixed on it and then walked home, which was only another 70m pass the road. I never walked late at night (after 2200) ever again.
this was 7-8 years ago, sadly my dog passed away a year later from an illness, i miss her so much.

I believe that's called the "Oz factor." That term was coined by ufologist Jenny Randles. It refers to a bizarre state of mind, usually described by people who claim they've had an encounter with the paranormal. A feeling that things are not quite as they should be, with a strange sensation of having entered a dreamlike state of surreality where the rules of normalcy don't apply and anything can happen. It's difficult to describe if you haven't experienced it. Many people who've encountered UFOs, cryptids, ghosts, etc. have reported feeling the Oz factor. As in, "Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."

I lived in Sparta for 6.5 years and bow hunted/rode my bike on the 60,000 acres that made up Fort McCoy pretty often. Also made friends with a lot of the CSU researchers out there that were doing environmental studies in the day and at night. While I never saw a rake while out hunting or riding trails, between the stories that have come from the CSU guys, and my own sightings, there is a lot of weird stuff that goes on out there.
In 2016 after finishing up an evening hunt on the east side of base, NE of cantonment, that was cut short by several bobcats screaming at each other (super creepy if you’ve never heard it before, especially in the timber with night approaching). I had just got back to my truck that was parked on the road and I happened to look back east, over my shoulder as I’m loading my gear into the bed of the truck, and above the ridge that makes up the east edge of fort, there was a flash of bright amber light. Turning around to get a better look, I see the remaining glow “drifting” north, parallel to the ground. As it goes out a new, bright light illuminates to the north of it and does the same thing, drifts north, perfectly parallel to the ground before fading out of existence. I watch this about 5 times when all of a sudden a rush of noise overhead causes me to duck; 3 helicopters with door gunners are racing towards where the lights were and I was able to make out one guy waving me away from the area. I’ve seen military flares before, and what I saw weren’t those.
Also had a different sighting down on Camp Douglas in the same year, where there were rotating, flashing lights in a fixed point above the airfield that, after several sequences, shot straight up in the air at such speed that they were a blur. Lots of strange stuff going on in that area for sure!

I live in Southeastern Wisconsin in a rural area north of I-94 between Milwaukee and Madison. I've seen aircraft pass over my house all the time but there was this one incident on my summer vacation between 1st and 2nd grade ( mid 1990's) where my aunt, my brother, and I were in our side yard looking west one night. I looked at the stars and noticed one that stood out, most stars shine blue or white in color but this object ( about 20 degrees above the horizon) shined an amber or gold color. I pointed it out to my family who acknowledged it but didn't react much more to it. I kept observing it and realized it was moving and leaving a glowing gold trail behind it eventually making a figure 9 in the sky. It creeped me out and asked if we could go inside after that. To this day I can't explain it.

Saw the cover of this video and was immediately brought back to an experience I also had during a spring package training in Bridgeport attached to 1/7 in 2019. During the entirety of the training there was intense rain, winds and it was extremely cold, towards the very end there was an event where we had to “assault through” on the “enemy”. We were all already extremely drenched, cold, water in all of our gear, everyone was just in the black and wanted to get it all over with. As we came to the end we lost communication with the platoon that was staged in the rear so we took a pause under a tree-line, during this time the rain picked up heavily and so did the winds, it felt as if we stood under that tree-line waiting to regain comms for such a long time, however it may have only been 45 mins. We all were just sitting there taking on the weather, waiting for hypothermia to hit us, as i was sat next to one of my buddies leaned up against a tree, i began to get so cold i gained tunnel vision and stared into the woods. In the very center of my vision coming out of the woods, i then saw what i can only describe as a skinny, bony, pale-ish, nude creature slowly crawling and making its way towards us in a curious manner. I was filled with fear however i couldn’t move. It wasn’t until another Marine finally hyped out and began seizing due to the weather, that one of the Staff Sgt’s began to run around and yell and wake everyone up so we could take the Marine to the nearest road and try and regain comms to get an evac with 7tons.

I started walking toe-to-heel because I was extremely clumsy and would drag my feet as a kid, and would step on or jab my feet into sharp objects on damn near a weekly basis; the number of pointy things, nails, pins, and such I've had stuck in my feet is almost funny. But putting my toes down first forced me to pay much more attention to where I was stepping, and before long it became automatic and I didn't even think about it. Now after 20+ years, walking heel-to-toe feels very weird and unnatural to me (it's nicer for walking on cold floors at night, too.)
But _now_ it's just damned annoying how every time I walk up to anyone they jump when they notice me out of the corner of their eye and swear they didn't hear me come near, and how often people leave a room I just entered and turn off the lights on me because they say they didn't hear me walk in. I have to intentionally make noise just so I don't make everyone jump. Really, really damn annoying.

Wisconsin has some weird spots. I’ve had odd things happen between Sparta and Elroy on the bike path.
The weirdest thing was on the Namekagon River while camping. I’d gone to bed early while everyone else was 15-20 feet away around the campfire.
We’d got caught in the rain earlier in the day and I’d hung my clothes on the tent and some bushes to dry during the night. I had been in my tent maybe an hour when I hear something walking around the back side of my tent. I’m good at noise discipline (I’d never heard that term before as I’m not a military guy) and could pick out tiny noises. I figured someone was going to try and scare me or pull my tent down. I got out of my sleeping bag and got right up by the flap ready to unzip it and scare whoever was out there. I was sitting in silence, waiting, and the noises had stopped and nothing was happening. So I called out, “Who’s out there?”
A few people around the fire heard my voice and answered What?
I said someone is creeping around my tent.
They all said they were still around the fire, and the minister even confirmed it.
So I decided I was hearing things and went back to bed.
The next morning, I realized my pants were still hung up to dry, but my shirt, socks and underwear were gone. I was about to ask who took my stuff when I looked down and saw very small, but human looking footprints in some mud near my tent. I showed my friend but he said I had made them and didn’t believe that I’d heard anything the night before. And that’s how some creepy gnome stole my shit.

These rake encounters legitimately scare me. These guys are very clearly intelligent, and intelligence makes an animal, including us, unpredictable. Plus, if the crawlers did really putz around with the tarps without waking up the soldiers, they were - as a fellow commenter noted - close enough to attack by surprise and clearly skilled enough at noise discipline to reach that distance more than once.
If one of those things attacked, I doubt it would be out of animalistic predatory instinct. Panicked defensive animosity is a VERY hard hostility to dissuade.

I am from northern California born and raised. My step father is a doomsday prepper and well we spent a lot of time out in the wilderness in the region. Where i lived, north of the redwoods, south of the mountains we never went to the northeast..... north, south, west, but never east but twice, one time for the snow and another for fishing, yet we never stayed the night in those areas. This step-father also spent my years until about i was about 12 homeless with my mother, the ateas that are now well known were remote at the time, but i recently asked her if she had stayed in those area's....... she never went deep into the woods up there called the siskious but I recall warnings of the area and to this day ive wondered why so many disappear up there....

The Rame encounter reminded me of something that happened to me back at my grandparents house. I was home alone (it was around 11pm) and my mom had been gone for about 15 minutes. I then heard her voice call me saying “Honey” “sweetie”. These are words she never uses and it should have been a red flag but I just responded with saying coming thinking she got locked out. I proceeded to go out of my room and down the stairs and I’m about to unlock the door when I decide. Hey let’s just look out side to see her. When I do I see the field in front of my house she isn’t there, but in that feild are two shining eyes( just like in that video from the guy with the roof). I quickly went back up the stairs and locked the door of my room. Few years later I talked to my grandma about this and she said she had something similar happen. She was hearing some sort of voice telling her to do something (I forget exactly what she said) but to her it felt evil. Besides it being in the same house the biggest simularites in these encounters is that we were both at our lowest points. My grandma recovering from surgery and getting over Covid and me dealing with my mom who was just laid off and we almost couldn’t afford rent. I love my grandparent, but that encounter makes me never want to sleep in that house alone. Even if that house is my childhood home.

I was at the MWTC in March of '97. I was there for the Assault Climbers Course. When my A-gunner and I were manning our listening post one night, we heard what sounded like three or more Marines advancing on our position. We called in a SITREP and awaited further instruction. I had my NVG's and was scanning back and forth looking for any signs of movement. I found nothing. The noises were getting closer, we called in a second SITREP. Over the radio our squad leader gave us a heads up that he and his grenadier were coming to join us in our listening post. When got their the noises started up again. He also thought it was either Recon or our Instructors messing with us or testing us like the Marine in the story. He called it in. Our platoon leader came over the radio and authorized us to use illumination. (The class before us had two pogs injured when they antagonized a bobcat at the same Training Site.) The grenadier launched a flare from his M203...I expected a few senior grunts to stand up and start ripping on us for being scared, but instead all we saw was what looked like glowing eyes then something pale and gray dart between the rocks and brush down the hill away from us. The embankment was too rocky and uneven for a human to go down that fast without losing their balance or causing some rocks to slide. All four of us were convinced that what we saw wasn't human or an animal. When we were relieved at 0600, my A-gunner and I went down to see if we could find any tracks, prints or evidence that what we saw was an animal. We couldn't find anything. When we regrouped with our squad leader we all decided to run it up the chain. Our platoon leader filed a report and said we had come into contact with another bobcat. I was born and raised in the desert mountains Arizona. Arizona is the only state with four wildcat species (jaguars, ocelots, mountain lions and bobcats) and the only place that has all four is in the southeast corner where I grew up. What we heard and saw that night was no bobcat. There wasn't any growling or "hissing" like they make when in close proximity to humans. Hearing this story made me glad I we weren't the only ones to encounter this type of creature at Bridgeport...at least now I know that memory is real. Thank you Wartime Stories for sharing it.

@@aletron4750 The Sasquatch in Alaska are supposed to be massive in size, 12' + , and less than friendly. Most of the Bigfoots in the lower 48 are known to hate dogs and it's the same with the Alaskan kind. In one account, a man was traveling in the bush on a four-wheeler with his dog which weighed about 200 pounds and they set up a tent for the night. A couple hours after he went to sleep, he was awakened by his dog that was now under his cot, which he thought was strange, and the dog had a low, quiet growl. He thought it might be a bear or something so he got up, grabbed his powerful handgun, and went outside to look. His dog followed. Where they were met by a gigantic Sasquatch that was anything but happy! The first thing it did was let out a horrible roar that made the man's whole chest vibrate and sent his dog to squeeze under the ATV in fear. So, he pulled his gun up and shot 3 or 4 quick shots right above the Bigfoot's head. Then this thing went ballistic! But it moved away and as it did, it screamed and cussed and ripped up trees, as it went. So, I'm glad you didn't get to see that creature at Ft. Wainwright!

Good work, here ... and to you for the service. Boars a personal fear since Old Yeller decades ago! None in Montana, though. However a lot of drama living outside Glacier Park with bears/wolves ... all positive, thank God. Trigger here was your rattler comment. Now on remote farm in SE Montana. Flanks Custer National Forest so zip other residences x one other cattle ranch so bear, lions, elk ... way beyond assumption BUT the rattlers are the #1 most populous and common hazard. A 10 foot pole w/sharpened hoe mounted outside as standard equipment (plus a gun) turned out a SUPER SERIOUS instruction, not a punk.
Except for mowed compound, tall grass became the new Jaws water. Holy hell, 14 encounters in first months, 99% w/o me being aware until on 'em. Yet only had to dispatch one right next to cabin, refusing to leave and engaged me. More a fair fight than thought as its cammo was so good even KNOWING where it was. Passing a grizzly is less frightening than seeing an arm-thick rattlesnake slithering away into the grass you were almost on. But must admit there is little "courage facing constant deadly danger" because those 99% would have gotten me first had they not clearly warned ... with most fleeing. So no Shoot On Sight.
Coffee rant, too. You COULD fire in self-defense, right? Unless live rounds aren't carried in training? Rhetorical I guess as a lot varies from place-to-place. Last week at a pioneer dump about a quarter mile away, I was snooping through and found an expanded cave; perfect shelter for a den. Bear was kneejerk thought but put down a flour patch and got a very large mountain lion print. VERY dense, isolated game area; no real worries but reported to warden who noted it and stressed I had every reason to kill it in self-defense but guess jail if I went out to hunt it! And messing around its den is provoking, not defending. Oh. final blab ... strikes me too of the sh@tstorm if it ends up some kid messing around getting shot out of a tree because a guy got spooked. Manifesto ends. Carry on.

Just found your channel and these stories have reminded me of one of my own: I’m a lcpl in the marines, deployed to Okinawa/korea in 23’, during which my platoon did an exercise nicknamed jdubbs (jungle warfare training). Towards the end of the course you set up a PB (patrol base) and over the next 2 days and 2 nights you practice patrolling/navigating through the thick veg and hilly terrain. My platoon made our movement right at dusk underestimating the time it would take to emplace into our pb so by the time we got there it was pitch black, so dark your hand at arms width would disappear, for this reason we used a long ass length of 550 that everyone grabbed onto when we pushed into the tree line, about an hour or so after we set into our pb fireflies lit up the jungle (my first time seeing them). It was around this time our acting platoon sergeant told us we were good to move to 50% security so we could all set up sleeping areas. I was lucky enough to be right next to a tree that almost grew horizontally about a foot and a half off the ground. So I grabbed my tarp, some 550 I had and my neck knife I used to have on my kit and began building a low profile shelter. (Side note: something that I learned earlier in the course is to dummy cord anything you might need during the night to eachother or to your belt, for example I had my 550 bundle, knife sheath, lighter, tourniquet, and gloves all dummy corded to a caribeaner I had on my belt.) I cut up a long strand of 550 into 5 equal lengths to use as anchor points, 3 to the tree and 2 to stakes I made out of sticks after wards I sheathed my knife and set it to the side and began tying my tarp down, mid way through tying one of the strands I felt a tug on my belt pulling rear wards, I quickly turn around and did a quick scan and saw nothing, chalked it up to delirium and got back to work, a few minutes later I needed to widdle notches into my stakes as I went for my knife I had found that the cordage to it was behind me and the knife was gone. Over the rest of the night I kept waking up to what sounded like rain drops hitting my tarp but after poking my head out would see unimpeded moon light and no rain. The next morning I tried looking everywhere for that knife to no avail. So I gave up and finished packing my gear back up ready to push out. As we were leaving I glanced up at a tree about 10 feet from where I slept and saw my knife stabbed in the tree about 12-13 feet up. I told this story to a guy at a bar in Kin town, near our barracks, and he told me a similar story and told me the Japanese have a story about a spirit named kijimun that are known to play harmless pranks that slowly escalate over time in the jungles of Okinawa.

Damn, I thought MAYBE this was finally a video about the living trees, otherwise known as "Tree Crawlers" or "Birch Crawlers" because of their leathery skin that resembles birch, with their lengthy limbs which look like tree trunks. I've only ever heard legends from settlers and natives along the east coast and up the Appalachian trail. They are a rare breed as they pick and choose what they eat, and so spotting them is rare. They are really good at blending in all things considered, but when you look up, you see a torso, followed by a humanoid head. Scariest shit I have ever actually seen, as one time I saw one crossing the highway rapidly. I'd say faster than 60mph. But, they rarely eat. Mostly just hibernating. I'd reckon you'd be hard pressed to see one actually consume a man, but when they do, apparently they snap necks before you can even see them. They are fast twitchy things, more like bugs than animals. Stay safe out their campers! The birch man is watching.

Appreciate the countless stories that keep me awake while at work or out in the field. I’ve grown up in the mountains of South Carolina right on the borders of North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee for all of my life. The Blue Ridge mountains are notorious for stories of “Pale Walkers”, Bigfoot, skin walkers and shit like that, an they all sound fake until you start talking to the old hillbilly guys that have lived alone up in the mountains for years who share stories of weird things like Bigfoot or skinwalkers or hell even the rake, makes you really wonder what actually is out there.

If you have any doubts on these stories, the natives of North, central and south have bizarre stories as well. My grandfather told me insane stories from the country side mountains in Puebla Mexico. One was him being lured by a beautiful woman at night and started choking him once he got close. As he escaped her grip, she no longer looked like a woman, but a floating demon who was transparent as the moon hit her. Mexico is full of these bizarre stories.

It's to instill desired behavior starting from childhood, so that the tribe stays together and doesn't venture out and put themselves or others at risk, seeing as they lived in the wilds and all. And to answer your rhetorical question: I think that is, because there are some horrifying and unexplainable things out there that defy all logical explanation to our prejudice and programming of our preconceived notions we have about the mystery we are experiencing. The fact that many cultures, separated by time and space, having stories of shared 'cryptids' adds to the validity that they stem from truth, not from the imagination of parents.

Oh man MWTC. I frequently drive by this place in the summer months and see Marines doing training in the area. Always find it interesting when I see them in their trucks parked along the mountain road, or signs up saying not to go down certain roads due to training. I always 'jokingly' think in the back of my mind that they're fighting something otherworldly in that neck of the woods and its being covered up.
Kind of unrelated but about 8ish years ago a Marine flagged me down on Sonora Pass near the base (still in the mountains) his buddy had a bad allergic reaction to something and needed help. I drove them both to the gate and they waved me off. I wonder what happened to those two.

Sure I may be a little late but I've been exploring the channel for some time now and loved the idea of attempting to debunk while trying to keep an open mind.
This story reminded me a little about an experience I had at the former super port, Dover AFB. It wasnt UFO but it might have been either alien or criptid, i dont know.
It was June of 2018. I was walking my dog Remmy, like I did. The same one of two routes I take depending on the day and people that are out and about. This day I had a good timing, kids were at school, which was good because some days she cannot be around little kids. Short story to that is ptsd from one. The other people who go out to walked, run, exercise the trails weren't out yet, or had finished their exercise for the day already. So it was a quiet walk. My dog and I went past the playground and past the rest of the houses. To the back side of the housing area, which honestly looked like a recent ish annex to the base. Here the path split in a T to go left the long way around or right the shorter way that dead ended but had a different T to keep going. Here there is the chain linked fence which was backed with thick trees that went about 40 meters before turning to wet lands and swamp. Some days, you get that sulfur smell from the swamp. As we were coming up to said T junction I suddenly stopped. Just dead stop and started to look around. Having Lived in Alaska for a while I learned quick to pay attention more if I did that as something was watching me. Rummy looked at me not sure why I stopped at first. My gaze went straight to the fence line ahead of me. It was the only area I could imagine something looki.g at me might be at as the rest of the fencing was that metal paneling. I slowly scanned the fence and noticed a wite shape among the bushes. I thought, "that wasn't there before" as I've walked the path everyday twice a day because Remmy loved the walks.
As I looked harder at the shape it looked like a leg sticking out of the bushes like when you catch someone mid stride, but it was just the leg that was up front. It was pale, and I mean pale enough to sun burn in 20 minutes pale. Almost like dull white or light gray chalk actually. No shoe, sock, pants of anykind. So as I'm processing this in the split second I had this leg suddenly shot into the woods and what ever it was ran like it wasn't ment to be seen fast. This made a loud ruckus in the woods that clearly draw the dogs attention and we both stood there watching and listening to this thing run. It stopped running about 5 seconds later and that was it. After about 3 minutes we resumed our walk. It has stuck with me ever since. Later that year my dad and I helped with the haunted hayride. Which I hoped part of it ran back there where the thing was spotted. Unfortunately it didn't go that far but I tried to figure out with in the bounds of the base and laws. I didn't hear anyone speak of a strange sighting. Perhaps someone out there has had something similar.
I myself haven't served, but for 23 years of my life, my dad has been in the Air Force before finally retiring after 26 years of service in 2021. I like to think I'm open-minded yet grounded. I didn't make a report or mention it to anyone least my dad get some weird "men in black" episode or something. Like in that episode with the downed apache with the Honduran and black out troops appearing. He was trying to get to Chief Master Sargent, so I didn't want anything to get in the way of that as I was already familiar with the don't speak of it that exists in the military. He had plenty on his plate already to deal. I've told my grandpa who was at fort Knox driving a M163 when he was in during and after 'Nam. He believes it's likely an alien checking things out as they do. I'd imagine he's seen something that made him so quickly say that.

Lol at your first duty station and only seeing centipedes. I'm from Hawaii and when I served in the national guard there, we would go to the range to qualify with our weapons and whatnot which lasted all day into the night. One time when we were getting ready to set up for night firing with the tracers and our night vision scopes, the full moon was out and me and a couple people in my unit were sitting in the back of an LMTV getting ready for our turn on the range, and this huge boar comes running through our camp at lighting speed going into the woods behind the range. One of the sergeants yelled "ho look at da bacon brah!"
No, we never caught and killed it and ate it. But trust me, as someone native to Hawaii, and given it's history and culture and geography, you'll see way more than just centipedes out there.
Great content though WS! I hope you see this and I hope you enjoyed your time being stationed in Hawaii!
