I never had an issue with alcohol. I drank sporadically, but it wasn’t until I gave it up completely (along with giving up sugar)that my health, my body, my life changed for the better. I concur 💯 %
Someone said. Alcohol can be your best friend and your worst master. Something like that. Im 270 days sober, absolutely the best ive ever felt mentally after a 37 year drinking career. Stop drinking, you wont regret a moment.
This is at the heart of my message to the world. I see so many people want to jump ahead to lifestyle optimization before addressing the basics. That is, overcoming addiction to become the person they want to be. At the core of holistic productivity is eliminating the non-essentials. Those things that distract us, like alcohol. This is the case for me. After getting sober, I could think clearly. And now I can create meaning for content for myself and others.
they really gloss past that point - it’s one of humanity’s oldest past times for a reason. and don’t get it twisted; i believe there is a lot of unaddressed alcoholism out there. but in the case of these two fellas i think that when you’re holding a hammer, sometimes everything starts to look like a nail. there is more than one way to gauge quality of life.
@saintseymour over 140,000 people die every year due to alcohol, either through consumption or through vehicle accidents. I understand that people like to have drinks together and the definition of alcohol being a social lubricant. But, to sit here and pretend(not necessarily you, but in General) that alcohol is NOT the most dangerous drug in the United States is just madness.
@@lemaitrethemonkTo add to those statistics. I have been a police officer for 29 years and the overwhelming majority of child abuse, murders, suicides, domestic violence i have been on scene of the perpetrators were drunk.
I was never a particularly impressionable person. I drank significantly more alcohol between the ages of 16-20 than 21-28. I think the reason I drank a lot when I was younger was because it gave me a sense of freedom from the societal structure of school. Drinking for me was a middle finger to authority in a sense. But that wore off quickly. When I refused to go out drinking on my 21st birthday, my family had a hard time imagining how I genuinely didn't want to. I see people struggle with alcoholism and I want nothing but to help them. In my mind, alcohol use is a compensation for pain. It's a way to get a dopamine rush. So when you stop using it, you have to fill that gap with something else. For me, exercise and healthy nutrition are essential. Without them, I would have to smoke marijuana for that dopamine rush which I've always preferred to alcohol. I don't believe a dependence on either are a good thing though. All drugs are coping mechanisms in my mind, and if we choose healthy coping mechanisms instead, we truly don't need the unhealthy ones. Then again, I needed marijuana for a decade or so to learn to adopt the healthier coping mechanisms, so I can't critisize someone else because they are on a different path than me. I can only tell them what worked for me and hope they consider it.
Even though I am against alcohol use these days, I hate how embedded into the culture it is. BUT if it's good enough for Mitchell Hooper to have an occasional few beers, who I believe is one of the best athletes around, then it's good enough for most people - AS LONG AS YOU CAN PRACTICE MODERATION.
Not everyone is searching for better health, peak peformance or how to loose weight... a lot of people drink because it makes them outgoing, it makes them have fun, enjoy themselfs, get to know people, don't worry, feel less pain... or at least that's why they start with it... and you can't treat those who become addicted by not acknowledging that there were a lot of reasons why they started in the first place and can't stop now
Nope.. I see teens drinking a sh*t ton of alcohol while partying all night.. Stop normalizing alcohol.. Some people start drinking simply put of peer pressure
@@scienceislove2014 and you are only susceptible to peer pressure if you have a weak sense of self and want to fit in very badly! It's not looking at porn or being a shopaholic, alcohol creates a chemical addiction that is too dangerous to just stop at once. Like, how heroin addicts aren't just trying to get high, they are trying to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Addiction is a medical issue, not a psychological problem.
And there are lots of people who have not been able to make anything of their lives or fit into anything and so drinking becomes an escape, yeah it can damper one's full potential, but if one already feels held back with life circumstances while sober then what is the big promise of not drinking, sure someone who has great opportunities with great jobs waiting have big reasons to get sober, not everyone does, and many do not, many are slaves to this high price of living low wage lifestyle.
Culturally reinforced collective behaviorism. Similar to the millions of male genital mutilations performed each year from pressure to fit in. Culture mutilates babies for “aesthetics” and everyone shrugs.
Health is a behavioral not technological problem, which is why it feels so shocking that something so unhealthy could be so prevalent in our modern technological society.
I try to tell anyone with mental health diagnosis if they are taking medications to be very careful. Alcohol is terrible for a “normal healthy” person without issues and highly dangerous for someone with. 7 years sober
I don't consume alcohol almost ever, but the science that says that alcohol is bad for you in normal doses is terrible. Psychologically this is just extrapolating extreme cases in non congruent ways. This discussion was frustrating because I was hoping it would be convincing and it left me questioning the science on alcohol entirely. There's so much endogeneity that it's not even close to clear to me that medical research has any idea what it's doing with this question.
I've never seen a video that says if going out with the boys what u should do before, during and after a drink session. They don't say don't go in the sun, they say wear sun screen, wear a hat, if get sunburn put on aloe Vera. Always the guilt trip.
Going from 100+ units a week to sober I felt like I was limitless for a while. Now back to normal human unless you're going to leave the dead end job you're not achieving more just aware of how stuck you are.
You can tell how much of a bubble this guy is in with "everybody is looking for optimal health and peak performance". No, most people don't give a shit and like to drink because it's fun and it makes you feel good.

Really enjoyed drinking heavily for seven years and was very fit . Had one bad drinking session felt very I’ll and stopped drinking 40 years ago.
After quitting alcohol after an epic 30 year run, I agree completely. Zero benefit in any way
