Thanks for your service! You hair looks great! I retired form the Navy in 2015 and I remember all of the drama that us natural-haired folks had to endure. With my hair type, it would have been SO MUCH better if I could have worn locs.
My pleasure! I was in during that time as well and it was such a hassle- i imagine even more so when you first joined. I’m so grateful for the positive changes!
@@RebekahElaine yeah, I figured you would remember all of that, since you said you were retiring in 6 years or so (I think) in one of your other videos. I’m glad that they changed the regs. I remember the earlier verbiage about locs being unkempt, matted sections of hair or some such and we were like, “Huh?” Then the ladies who came before me let me know how hard it was just to get to wear multiple braids. It’s great to see so much change.
Where has this video been???? Thank you so much! I love letting my locs hang free, but the oils were ruining the backs of my blazers when I wear professional attire so I've been searching for a good bun style. Thanks boo!
I bought the bomb goo edge gel based on your review, that stuff is no joke. Nothing else holds my edges down but this. I have always loved a good bun. Looks great.
First thank you for your service. Second thank you for the video. I'm also Navy and about to start my loc journey. These are the types of videos that are necessary for us natural hair girls. Keep slaying queen.
As a mental health provider I can say that there are many people that very much do care about the safety. I know it’s not perfect but there’s a lot of us trying to make a difference.
@@RebekahElaine yeah I'm also a mental health care provider and as a whole they don't.Thats like people saying well I'm white I'm sticking up for blacks, yeah that's great but as whole it's not helping.I know for a fact across the board that damn bun is more prioritized.
When I was a kid I did ballet and my mum used to put my hair in a net, but she would wrap the netting over twice, so she'd put it over the bun as you did, then she'd twist the elastic around (like a hair tie) and put it back over so I would have two layers of netting over the bun - that may hold better than the way you do it as the elastic would go around the hair twice?
Hello Elaine, how many locs do you have? I do have sister loc but would like hair like yours if I combine mine. I see that you are able to interloc your hair, which I would like to be able to do at some point
I don’t know if I could do it hun. I just hit my 3 year and within this last year I’ve cut mine twice so it’s off my shoulders. I want them to grow at least bra strap length one day but I already know how I am. The longer my hair gets the more I have to do to maintain it so I keep it shorter out of convenience 😅. I did the same thing when I was a loose natural too 🙈.
@@RebekahElaine 😂😂😂! At least you’re staying consistent! When I made this comment I had my third set of locs that I combed out last July 🥴. I started going through a season where I felt like God wanted me to let some things go and those locs were one of them. So I’m back to rocking the natural and focusing on making my hair as healthy as it was before my mom passed. I applaud you though. Cause your locs are banging honey 🙌🏾!!
@@RebekahElaine i haven’t decided if imma cut my hair to my showers or do my makeshift bun for basic… my hair Is a lot thicker and a tad bit shorter than your hair :/ which is annoying bc I don’t wanna trim it but I don’t wanna have to have this thick bun 24/7 😭😭 idk what to do
That’s a hard decision. You’ll definitely want to make sure you can keep it in a neat bun during those 8 weeks because they’ll likely give you a hard time about it. That’s the sad truth.
Is it true you can have it as long as you can’t see it from the front? My big is about as big as yours and a few people from my command are saying that a certain person is going to make me cut it

I haven’t measured the bulk of the bun from the back of my head, extending out. But as long as it’s less that the length of the ID card, it’s in regs. The width of the bun can’t be wider than your head (so you shouldn’t see the bun from the front).

Wow. In the Army our buns cannot be more then 3 inches wide or away from our head. Looks great! Nice and neat 💯
Thank you! I’m grateful that they’ve relaxed our bun standards a bit.
Omgoodness! Thank you, thank you! This technique worked amazingly for my thick long dreads. ❤
You're so welcome!
The hair net is funny bc I have to have this sleek bun for my food service job and I rely so much on the final hair net to hold the crazy locs in!
Right! It’s so helpful!

I’m going to invest in the hairnets. Great idea.
That go pro worked amazing to show us
Nice Tutorial,Going To Try This For Workouts!
Thank you! I hope it works out for you!
They care about the bun so much but not the safety of others when it comes to SA like make it make sense but nice bun.

Yayyy been needing this my locs are long and thickish
I hope it’s helpful for you!
I feel like I will have to cut my locs. It’s a little past my shoulders but not long enough to be that neat
Aww I’m sorry if you do end up having to cut them but I’m sure they’ll grow back in no time
Love your hair & thank you for your service! I will be watching your other videos!
Thank you so much! I just subscribed to your channel and will be watching your videos as well.
The growth is Amazing!
Thank you! They’re definitely getting long

Nice. So far one net works well for me. But I’ll definitely try two and see if it can get a better hold. Thank you!
Thank you sis

Hi there. It looks like I have more locs than I actually do (based off what I’ve been told). I have approximately 135 locs
Hi, is it heavy by your neck? Mine is heavy when I do it that low. Thank you though, I’m going to try it a little higher.
It doesn’t feel heavy but it is a little stiff, like I can’t bend my head back lol. But I have to keep it low so that my cover can fit.
love this! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Where do you get those hair nets from
I get mine from Amazon: amzn.to/4dqT7kG

Idk why I’m just seeing this lol. But I guess a year later, I’m still finding ways to manage all this hair lol

Finally got this to work! Thank you
🙌🏽 My pleasure
Yesss I love this tutorial
Thank you! This hack has been a lifesaver. I gotta think of more tricks as my hair gets longer lol
Whered you get your hair tied and Bobby pins ?
Both from Amazon. I have them in my storefront.

Good job
Thank you!
Very nice just done it not as good as yours but at least it’s staying up👌💯😂
Lol! Nice. Practice makes perfect!
Could you wear this bun (width and bulk) during basic?

How do you retwist when you're on deployment?
I haven’t deployed since being loc’d, but I do my own hair. If I were deployed, I’d likely just do it in my down time.
My locks are so long they're like all strap link and they're thick I wear hijab and I needed a bun style like this
I’m glad you found this video. I hope it’s helpful 🙌🏽
Love this style but it tends to be so heavy for me
I agree. I can’t keep it in longer than the 8-10 hours I’m at work.
I tried it and kept failing my locks are so long omg I can’t do this either :(
Aww man. I’m sorry to hear that!
If they’d let me keep my locs I would sign up no cap
I bet!
