You can't go wrong with Nick Drake. I love listening to him outside, especially this time of the year. Northern Sky, my all time favorite. Hope you guys hit some John Martyn, his friend. How about "Don't Want To Know About Evil". Better yet, Beth Orton's cover of it. You can hit two birds with one stone...
❤❤❤ OH YES. dripping face fluid like only Drake can provoke! Sadness has never felt so purifying! 😢😅 . yes, I've always wanted this to have an instrumental violin or cello interlude and one more last verse to extend it.
I was around in the early 70's and Nick Drake was not recognized at all. I used to buy the music papers of the day...NME, Sounds, and Melody Maker...and i distinctly remember reading a very small piece announcing he had a new album and a couple of gigs..maybe 10 lines, but i don't remember any interviews or Album reviews. I did have a Various Artist Album...Bumpers...that had one of his versions of "Hazey Jane"..which i absolutely loved...but regretfully i didn't run out to buy the Album. And then 20 years or so after he died came the TV advert which featured "Riverman" and he suddenly blew up...such a shame he wasn't recognized in his lifetime. I've read before that he used to sing a song and then take about 10 minutes to tune his guitar for the next song. Which didn't go down well with the audience. "Way to blue" is my favourite of his...especially with the home made video of him when he was a happy child that would grow up to have so much inner demons.
Here's a video of Nick's "Pink Moon" guitar being played, (which is a little eerie) : ruclips.net/video/ZinSWPOpDN4/видео.html Even more spooky - some rare footage of Nick at breakfast at Far Leys House: ruclips.net/user/shortsTi-Ne0mDUGo
I assumed Andy had moved into his Mom's basement. The album title _Five Leaves Left_ isn't wistful autumnal melancholy - it was printed on the running-out slip in packets of papers. _Richard_ Thompson ffs - I've already hinted at "Turning of the Tide" and "1952 Vincent Black Lightning". (I showed a photo to a mate who used to ride bikes, and he salivated.) Probably just to enjoy not to review: Marianne Faithfull _Broken English_ and this 2005 gig OKgma28N-lw (slide, fretless bass, brushes, ...). IMO the live version (58) of "Lucy Jordan" is way better than the album one (32), and both are incomparably better than the original (young kids dissing their mothers). Oh OK then - review zVg2sL707gI What.an.exit.number. Don't forget to glue your eyebrows back on. The backing band is Barry Reynolds (guitar), Fernando Saunders (bass), Courtney WIlliams (drums), Daniel Mintseris (keys) and *Lew Soloff* (trumpet). I've read that the song was originally offered to Tina Turner (of I Can Turna Corner) - and from what I know of Ike, I can understand why.
@@theaudiophiles7889 @Jon - I got fedup of my posts with live links getting deleted as if they were spam. If you post one of my gibberish strings into the YT search bar, my recommendation should be the first hit. (I've just checked these two.) Video titles can sometimes be ambiguous, and are therefore less good for searching. Yrs, Mike
@@mikesummers-smith4091 Here's a link to Marianne live at Rockpalast: ruclips.net/video/OKgma28N-lw/видео.html She's SOME character isn't she? Really enjoyed watching/ listening to this. But damn - can you imagine being trapped in an elevator with this girl?!!!! Apparently work has finally begun on her Biopic ("Faithfull", I think) and will star Lucy Boynton as Marianne - which means the film will be worth watching even if it's crap.
Brilliant song

Thanks FSA. 'Way to Blue' was the first Nick Drake song I heard. Immediately hooked.
Cheers, Jon.
Really interesting and thought-provoking reaction, guys.
Thank you Jo. Some more Nick Drake coming in a couple of weeks.
Cheers, Jon.
@@theaudiophiles7889 Pleased to hear that, he is a superlative singer/songwriter/arranger.

Thanks Mike. Your links aren't showing properly - could you retry? I'm intrigued - picturing Penfold's eyebrows.

Strings a bit Eleanor Rigby-ish
There is a fantastic compilation on Ace Records of Robert Kirbys orchestrations called When The Day Is Done. Well worth checking out.
Will definitely check it out. Thanks.
Cheers, Jon.
Is there a link to "When The Day Is Done"? - can't seem to find one..
