  • Congrats on your new barbecue purchase. If your considering this, I highly recommend and hope this video helps you make a decision.
I was overwhelmed and intimidated when I purchased this about 7 years ago. However, all I knew is that I wanted some good barbecue. I watched tons of videos and even purchased books on the Weber Smokey Mountain. It was fairly easy to use after getting the basics down. Just got to understand the mechanics. I'm not a pitmaster nor do I consider to be a pitmaster but I know for sure my barbecue will beat out some bbq joints. If you ever were to try my barbecue I assure you will be satisfied and happy. Although there was A LOT of trial and error. Still to this day I'm still learning from others and adjusting my cooks. Barbecue and Grilling is not like riding a bike. Its something your always working on. Finding new ways and trying new ideas (me at least) Barbecue is art. There is so many variables from rubs, time, temp, sauce, cuts of meat, wood selection, outdoor humidity and temp and so on and so forth. I bet you will be able to start making good barbecue with a little time and practice on the WSM. Anyone looking for information on Weber Smokey Mountain. Or if you need help feel free to contact through comment or email. Email list in my about section.

Great video. Thanks. I currently have a kettle and am considering getting WSM. Now that I have watched your video, it has given me a bit more confidence on how to use it once I get it.👍

Is this the 18 size? Can a half pan fit in this size? Thanks

I keep my charcoal in a covered barrel and keep the bags to start my chimney. Works really well. My son'd were looking to get me a smoker and I have been eying this model. This was a great demo, thanks.
    Also, ribs look delicious.

WSM is a legit smoker. I also set up my coals like you do. I've swapped the water pan with a Firedial and I got a Lavalock coal basket which has an ash catcher. I've worked on 60-1000 offsets and this can make bbq that's comparable.

WSMs are amazing. Great advice man. The advice about the importance of look and feel over how long something is cooking is something that took me a while to grasp when I first started grilling.

Thanks. Same here. When I got my wsm I felt as if I was alone. None of my friends had it at the time. It was through lots of trial and error and research that I went through to be standing here. Now I’ll cook any damn thing on that. Lol. Hope for the new guys to the wsm they can just walk away with one thing from this video. Have a great weekend brother

"I'm not a competition cook, but I'm sure I could hang with them". That's what I thought.... a little ambitious. I did get 4th place in chicken with a WSM one time. Otherwise, competitions are very taste/doneness specific; don't waste your time. Keep cooking what you want, when you want it. 🤟🤟🍗🐂🤟🤟

Welcome. Yeah those comps are not my cup of tea. Money, time, stress. No thanks. I definitely give it up to the comp guys. Cooking in my backyard for my friends and family is where it’s at for me. Congrats on the chicken 👍🏻. Thanks for watching ✌🏻

Great video. Thanks. I use news paper in my chimney, works really well and it’s free. Spray with a little cooking oil on the paper. I also use an Auber Instruments pit minder, it’s less expensive than the others, about $150 and works great.

Hey Thomas. Thanks for the feedback. Newspaper works great. Haven’t done that in a while. Lately I’ve been using Fire Cups by the Tiger McCool barbecue company. Nice little fire starter and burns real clean. I have to check out the Auber. I’m not familiar with it. Thanks for the heads up. I don’t have many aftermarket parts for the wsm. Some stuff works really well though. Hope you like my channel. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good day 👍🏻

Great video. I’ve been torn between a WSM and Masterbuilt 800. But here in the uk our climate isn’t great for the Masterbuilt. I think you made my mind up to go for the WSM

Hey Brian. Welcome. Definitely run a water pan. Also fat cap up. Water pan acts as a heat sink. It will hold the temp better.
