    In todays video I am showing step-by-step by step how to repair holes in knit socks using a darning loom. The darning loom I am using in this video is a speedweave style darning loom that was purchased from Amazon. These small looms create the perfect woven patch to cover up any hole, and can be used on a variety of materials from hand knits to denim!

    You gave a superb presentation that will be useful to many of us. I make my own socks on a circular sock machine, so this will help to keep them in use for much longer. BTW, the funny looking hook that you were wondering about at the beginning is a latch hook needle used on flatbed knitting machines. You could use it to pull the yarn ends inside the sock, rather than threading a needle.

    I agree with you that the needle provided is problematic with the sharp end. I managed a work-around by feeding the needle backwards (blunt end leading) through the ups and downs of the wefts. And as you say, the sharp end will be handy for heavier items. It's a nice little time-saving and more accomplished-looking patching tool.

    The latch hook tool is really, really useful. I would use this for weaving not the needle. It's also great for picking up dropped stitches. I would like to know how you got a long with knots at the bottom of your sock?

    Thank you for saving me from the despair of throwing away hard made well fitting socks.

    Thank you. I also waited to buy one of these to darn socks better than my usual lumpy mess. But the little page of instructions, besides English and typo errors, was impossible to follow and left more questions than answers! Lol. Now I understand. Thanks again!

    Great video! Your instruction is so clear and easy to follow. I've purchased one of these darning looms and can't wait to try it out. Thanks so much for sharing.

    I just got one very much like this, but it came with a bunch of tapestry needles as well as the long one and the weird latch hook tool, as well as thick hair bands instead of rubber bands. Re the needle being too sharp (actually the metal edges of my tool were too sharp too), you can use a fine grit file to sand the tip as well as the edges of the main too. This little tool is already saving me alot of time fixing my giant pile of holey socks!

    I've watched several tutorials now on how to do this--I'm a total newbie--and yours is the best. Thank you for showing how to finish off the project. I'm curious if you ever tie off that final knot what you wove through the underside of the sock or do you just leave it as-is like you did at 15:57? I guess it's already knotted so is it necessary to weave it through several more stitches? Again, total newbie so this could be a dumb question. Thanks for being so thorough!

    Thank you for making this great video! I bought a 14 hook darning loom and watched at least 6 different video demonstrations and tried to follow the suggestions, but everyone has slightly different techniques and none of those I tried came out quite to my liking or they weren't clear and I found hard to follow. But then I watched this video and followed step by step and I found that your technique is easy and I love the result. So now I've gone through my old sock drawer and darned a dozen pairs of socks and just love how easy it has become from beginning to end. You did a wonderful job of demonstrating each step and showing up close areas that show where and how to move forward. I have this video on Favorites and Saved so I can refer to it and also share it if I can convince any of my friends that darning socks is fun! ❤

    Also just got one, they have a bigger size too! Plus learned can use the long needle woven across top, FYI can use a “Tee shirt yarn” for rubber band… there’s also a “Stick key version with grooves in it that’s also used”…

    Send the needle backwards rather than pointy end so less splitting risk.

    Send the eye of the needle through first when weaving and it won't split the yarn.

    I thought the ones I had been seeing for years were crazy expensive. Quite a investment for a stamped loom. I’m glad pricing is becoming more reasonable. Now for a higher quality…I’m open to suggestions.

    Thank you for the tutorial. I bought one out of curiosity and I got the 28 pin one so it's kinda big, I was surprised. Also the metal piece has sharp edges and cut the rubber band! My husband is going to fix it tho. I am looking forward to trying it. I also tie knots. Unapologetically too. 😁😇

    This is a great tutorial. I agree that the instructions that come with these kits are confusing so I've watched a couple of videos to guide me. I have a load of socks that need darning; various thicknesses and materials. What sort of yarn would be a good multipurpose one for me to use? I'm in the UK. Thanks. 🙂

      So glad you enjoyed it! I would go with a fingering weight yarn ( recommending between a 2.25 mm - 3.25 mm knitting needle ) with some synthetic yarn in it to make it more durable than a pure wool yarn

    Got the same for $12!! Now gotta find something with a hole in it....
    Would hair tie bands work? Figure they are less breakable than just plain rubber bands....

    I want to use for adult size sock repair. on ebay they come in 10/14/28. i see you are using a 14 hook. do you think a 10 would be too small? perhaps the 10 is for children size? the 14 for adult socks, and the 28 and above for garment repair?

    • @eleh4702
      @eleh4702 Год назад

      I'm a newbie to all this, but when Googling regarding sock darning with one of these mini looms it was suggested the 10 pin is best. That's what I bought though I need to buy some thread/yarn first. 🙂

    • @Kaila999
      @Kaila999 Год назад

      I think the different number of pins isn’t about size of sock, but more about the gauge of the yarn. Fourteen works well with sock wt/fingering yarn. Ten would be better for DK/worsted etc (the hooks are bigger and they are spaced out more, but cover the same width of real estate as the 14 pin, if you get my drift).

      QUESTION: Around 3:03 you mentioned it’s quite important to place the hole to be darned a little below centre of the disc. You say that we’ll see why “in just a second “. Perhaps I missed something, but I don’t think you ever said why. Could you tell me/us? Thanks for this very clear and instructive video!

    Which size do you recommend for socks? i bought the 28 pin thinking for finer years, making a denser patch. the disk was "huge"... no way fits in a sock. will use for garments but which to buy for SOCKS. 10 or 14 pins? What is the diameter of your sock disk?

    • @KnittingHouseSquare
      @KnittingHouseSquare  2 года назад

      I just checked and mine is the 14 pins which I think worked really well for socks - the diameter of the disk is 2.5" - I hope that helps!
