They weigh about the same as a Jordan V. They aren't heavy at all. The bulky look comes from padding. Where some shoes use straps for lock down, Ewing 33HIs use cushion and padding (b/c Ewing was a BIG dude & needed extra).But it locks your feet in & disopates shock very well. As far as it being "trendy"...the design is over 20 years old and doesn't look like any other shoe on the market. So I doubt if its on anyone's trend other than those who appreciate what it means, and what it offers.
