Billy is one of the few singers, alongside Liz Frazer and Scott Walker and maybe Bjork, that can reduce me to tears but in a way that I find strangely comforting. This song and Kites are good examples of what I"m talking about. When Billy sings like this, it is as if he's saying; yeah things are bad but it doesn't last forever. I think I speak for many Billy fans, when I say that his death felt like the loss of someone we knew and love(d) dearly. I still find it hard to believe he's gone.
This song has helped me navigate what has turned into a hellish world. I love the way Billy was able to bring the mystical world to his careful listeners. And I love his little tap of his tam to Jim Morrison's Crystal Ship, another gorgeous gem of a song by the Doors.
