Thanks for doing a podcast with Dan ! I have been a subscriber to him back when he had less than 5,000 subs. Just a cool dude who is very relatable . I’ve been watching your channels back when you were still travel feels . Been sitting in the background of RUclips not starting a channel because of fear . I am now in my early 40’s and after watching this podcast I really think it’s time to pull the trigger and start posting vids . Matti keep hammering these podcasts out and vids on your main channel . Your viewership may dip here and there but the true followers are still checking in daily/weekly to watch your vids .
Remember 2 years ago no one could get out their house . That’s when I really got into RUclips. On that note that’s probably when I started to following Dan .
Dan is awesome. I just started backpacking this year, and also a beginner in entrepreneur endeavors, and a pastor (though not doing RUclips videos as of yet) and I’ve learned a lot from Dan. Hearing from behind the scenes on the entrepreneur angle was nice to see!
Guys, this was an amazing podcast to listen to. Loved your honesty about the tik tok and all that and you made such interesting points. I’m 47 now and loving creating RUclips videos. I’d give anything to go full time at it but the cost of living makes that difficult.
Imagine giving the first like on a Matti Haapoja video!😲 Love your stuff man! You've been a huge inspiration to me, and I'm so happy you started this podcast, easily my favorite! Keep it up 🔥
@@mattih I always love when it comes to the being a RUclipsr question! That's one of the things that hold me back the most, and it's really helpful seeing everyone's perspective, and how they all struggle with it..
Holy Cow so glad you had him on. One of the guys I have gotten inspiration from to start my own channel. Awesome keep reaching out to new niches. so far I'm really enjoying the podcast.
Hey Matti, it would be epic if you guys could upload these podcasts to Spotify. I've just checked and no episodes are on. I so enjoy listening to you interview your epic guests when I'm doing home chores- literally, your episode with Chris has got me a meeting with my local tourism office- exciting times ahead :) I never knew I could aim to work with my city's tourism office and, although I don't have the gig yet, I've got a meeting which is more than I could have ever dreamed of. YAY! Thank you!
@@mattihaapojapodcast cool thanks! I'm definitely sharing this episode. I know so many people who are 40 and above who would love to start a RUclips channel. My mom has actually just started, she's in her early 50s and I feel there is so much room for millennials and boomers to groove in. The youths keep the platform nice and fresh, but the older generations on RUclips are like lofi music. There's space for everyone to play and this episode is proof of that. Whoohoo!
Had no idea who Dan was before this but still just the setup, you matti, this podcast is so interesting! I love hearing y’all talk creative. It’s so amazing no matter what guest you bring on it’s always gonna be a Hit. Also, Dan is amazing
Hey Matti, I just want to let you know that I'm really enjoying your Podcast content! This episode in particular. Thanks and love from northern germany :)
Can you do a full video on the main channel about the A/B Storyline? Im having a hard time coming up with what I want my channel to be about because I have a lot of interests but struggle to stick to a niche. Your podcast with Peter about this on this channel was great info on the topic but a full video on how you think about A/B Storyline + when you should have a second channel would be amazing.
Thanks for this podcast series. I myself started a small channel at the age of 43. I've actually gotten decent views. In my videos I speak Danish, but consider whether I should start in English instead, but can't figure out if it is best to start a separate channel for that. I do my RUclips in my spare time...
I feel this so much. Time is so hard with family and work. As the sole provider in my family it’s so hard to focus. I’ve spent the last 7 years trying to make my RUclips but only really started my nee channel just before the start of covid which wiped my business out. So now I’m working part time while trying to make my yt. Trying to find my niche at the moment. Just thinking if I started way back when I uploaded my first video in 2007 where my channel would be and even when I decided to take it serious 7 years ago where my channel would be. Looking forward as a 40 year old it’s better to start now and grow over the next 5 years I’m not waiting any longer.
Continuing my tredition, and the previous episode's comment: I have my authenticity I guess, I think I found it recenty... like in the middle of this episode while they talked about chasing views :). New goal which is repersentitive of a stage that I want to be in youtube filmmaking: Be on two podcasts, this one and the colin and samir podcast.
the whole of life is just a game with hidden rules. We try something and see what sticks and makes us te most happy and then we repeat this for the rest of our life.
Matty you should start off with an introduction because I am 15 minutes into this and I still don’t know who this guy is I understand he does some gear reviews but that’s about it maybe introducing your desk I’m loving the podcast but I get to talk about a lot of stuff and I still don’t really understand the background of this guy is an in a sense prior to you guys talking
I wish I could go backpacking a lot more, but with gas prices as they are, it’s just very expensive to go anywhere besides close by, and and I would like to go several places I haven’t already been. How are you doing with traveling and what do you think about the expense of it? Is the current economy affecting this hobby? Just wondering
To start this is not trolling. I’m only making an observation on something that you commented about I’m not getting as many views as you used to a year ago. I feel based on watching all of your episodes that you’ve posted. You had a better chemistry with your brother and you seemed more relaxed and enjoyed yourself more. I get the impression watching your videos that you are not enjoying yourself like you used to I feel that the chemistry you have with me guy isn’t as strong And you seem to be annoyed in an arrogant sort of way that I’m not used to seeing. Plus Teppo Is an excellent video editor. There’s no comparison to his style of editing you might not notice a difference but I can see a difference from a year ago to now. Again I am not trolling your page I am just making an observation from an outside perspective something for you to think about.
Good to see an 'old' guy doing it! I'm older than you Dan and slowing my work life down as of next month (a long time coming!) to build me channel. °¬)
Still can’t believe I get to do RUclips FULL TIME! 🔥😎
🙌🙌🙌
Dan you are an inspiration!! Thanks for being true and awesome. This interview came at the right time for me. All the best to you guys ✌️
Really nice to learn more about your story Dan!
I was waiting for this video Dan. Way to go, hope to join u some day
Love your heart, passion and sense of humor Dan. Keep rocking out there.
Hope you guys love the episode! Dan is such an awesome person 🙏🏻
Great Job Matti! Absolutely love this new channel! Really enjoy hearing creators stories and you are a great host!
Such a great episode, keep doing interviews/podcast like this!
Loved him saying how he was hiding it from his family for the first bit! 😂
Haha that was the best part 😂
Nice to get someone like Dan who's from outside the filmmaking world. ❤️
Yessss I agreee. Hopefully lots more diversity in channels to come 😊
Kids these days, sheesh. To old to start RUclips at 40? I started around 60 and I'm still going.
Love Dan’s channel! He is what got me back into hiking and camping

I've really been liking this podcast series, Matti! Keep them coming, super inspiring!
Fast becoming my favourite video podcast!
Dan is the man! Love his channel
He’s so great 🙌🏻
Loved this chat! As a dad of 4 closing in on 40 and trying to go ALL IN on RUclips it's inspiring to listen to these podcasts. Keep it up Matti!
at 7:02 Matti reminds me of the old commercial for kids, "Nobody is good at everything, but Everyone is good at something!"
Remember 2 years ago no one could get out their house . That’s when I really got into RUclips. On that note that’s probably when I started to following Dan .
Another episode! Nice! Why are episodes getting shorter? We need more of you laugh Matti!
Haha no set length 😊 but I’ll be sure to talk more in the future haha

Cool to see my RUclips interests collide!

Love that every youtuber’s background story is different!
There are other youtubers there who’re bigger in terms of sub count but you can’t argue how more entertaining Dan is over all of them.
Enjoy your podcast, from the one you did with Peter, and now this. Keep it going. Enjoy it so much.

Man the fact THE Matti Haapoja interacted with my comment… Is this what Fame feels like?
Thanks for doing this episode! Great insights and nice to hear a bit more about how Dan got started.
Nice one! Thank you, always encouraging

Great video, its great to hear yoy talk about the process of youtube, im still in the process of not groeing, but i love learning about it

Outstanding Matti! This is inspiring stuff for me, at 41 I’ve been wondering if I’m too old to be starting a YT channel, question answered!

Why haven't these podcasts taken off yet? I find these very interesting and valuable.
I love hearing the stories of how people actually start RUclips.
New to the channel, Great interview! Thanks for the conversation :-)

VIDEO 3 of me asking: What's the song in the intro?
nice
... Kyle's luxury items .... camp chair and poop hammock ...
But isn't he just an employee of Backcountry? Kinda kills the story.
... side effects from drinking too much sparkling water .... start wearing your hat backwards ...
... but have you seen the video of Dan hiking in a thong ?? .. .. interesting shuffle pace ,,, maybe had something to do with the lace ...
