My Grandmother worked for R & L carriers for 28 years. She was still working when she passed suddenly. Her life insurance policy beneficiary was her mentally handicapped daughter who was legally incompetent and unable to sign over money from the life insurance to pay for the funeral. I was 24 years old at the time and had just taken in my disabled aunt. When I found out that I had no way to pay for the funeral I was devastated. I received a call from the funeral home that the whole funeral and burial was paid for a whole $14000. Apparently the HR representative I worked with contacted the owner and he personally paid for her entire funeral. I can never fully express my gratitude to this company for what they did for me and my family! This was in 2014
I've been there 4yrs now, 7yrs all together. Great company to work for, great people. There is no overtime, but they get top hourly pay which makes up for it. Resorts are free
Great video, just started seeing R-l around Nebraska the last 10 yrs always look like they have nice equipment, hope to see some new videos on your new flat bed experience 🎉❤
You will definitely see a mix of flat bedding adventures as well as the old trucking videos. I have a lot of people interested in watching my "new career" but also a lot of people that love the company videos and I love them too.
My friend left 2 years before yellow went super nova. He loves it. He says the resorts are free you just have to pay for food. The employees at the resorts are considered R+L employees.
The Roberts are very large grain farmers, they owned 2 case tractor dealerships but sold them a few years ago, they own a large horse arena, i own a lot of real estate, they do alot for their community, Wilmington college, Rocky Fork Lake, and alot of activities at horse arena, top notch people.
Awesome video on R&L. I currently work there, going on my 4th year. This will be the company I retire from. They aren't perfect, as no company is. However there is one thing they always keep in mind when making decisions....family. R&L is a nationwide company, but each terminal feels as if it's run by its own little family. Late model, well equipped tractors, trailers, and box trucks made the job a little more enjoyable. As some have stated, no, they do not pay overtime. The lunch break (30-min break) is paid though. Many of the LTL companies that do offer overtime, also require you to punch out for your lunch break. Those same companies offer overtime, but often times won't work the driver long enough to see it. They also give you the opportunity to put in a few hours a week on the dock, or doing local trailer swaps. As for the resorts; the resorts are probably the best benefit. They are free and reserved based on seniority. Every year, the entire company gets to put in three options for their reservations. Within a week or two you will know what your reservation will be. I've always gotten my first choice on my reservation. At the resorts that offer a bar/restaurant, the food and beverages are offered at cost. Meaning you pay, what the company paid. There isn't a profit for the company. The employees at the resorts are also R&L employees. Daytona Beach and Ocean Isle are water front resorts (My two personal favorites). Each time I've visited I've made new "work friends". Of course, the conversation starter is easy since we all do the same thing and work for a company that treats us this well. Again, thanks for the the review on R&L.
I'm glad you like the video and thank you for the reply. I really enjoyed this one and love hearing about these awesome resorts. Years ago I almost applied to R&L. The only reason that I didn't is because at the time I was looking for local work and their Lebanon, PA yard was a little too far for an everyday drive. I did do a local job and hated it. In hind sight, if I had taken the job at R&L I could have switched into OTR and be enjoying the beech for free lol. Thanks again driver.
Good video, Mr. Finch. Wasn't sure of your first name. My first year in OTR was 1996 and I remember seeing R&L trucks on the road then. Didn't know anything about them, now or then, and so am happy that you did this video on them. BTW, you say you are slow to read comments, well I am slow to watch videos a lot and so that puts us twice as far behind. LOL.
LOL, that's ok. We have a lot of time to get through this. My name is Rob by the way. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos, I have a lot more to come!!
Hi rob, I missed you and happy you are back. Happy new year 🎊🎆🎈 r and l not around in the five boro in New York.. I think they have a terminal in Long island 🏝️ ny.
Regarding R&L's NASCAR sponsorship: A Schneider driver told me once about 20-25 years ago that Schneider kept the fuel points that truckstops gave and used them to fund the NASCAR sponsorship that Schneider sponsored. I thought that was pretty lowdown of Schneider. Not only did the driver have to pump the fuel but then Schneider keeps the fuel points from the driver.
I don't know if it's actually a "resort" but, if I had to guess, the Hotel in Wilmington, Oh is probably for drivers at the headquarters for various reasons during the week and for drivers and families visiting Kings Island amusement park and/or other attractions around the Cincinnati area on weekends. Cincinnati also has an awesome zoo and, Newport (Ky) Aquarium is just across the river.
Free resorts not worth the large amount of residential deliveries in 48' liftgate trailers , (mostly freight the other companies don't want), poor management at most terminal, deplorable conditions at most terminals and no overtime pay. I worked at Dallas terminal ...total nightmare and very disorganized !!!
/ I hear the only way to go with this company is line haul idk I'm with ABF and luv it 🤷. I do have a buddy works for them lH tho and loves it , however out here on the Fontana terminal.
You don't have to be a part of R&L to stay at the hotel across I 71 from their corporate but the next time you are by there stop at the hotel. Their is a restaurant and it has a lot of diecast trucks on the walls for display. I am sure you would enjoy.
Thank you for telling me that. I stop in that corridor a lot because it seems like I'm always waiting out traffic for one of the cities at either end lol. I would love to see that collection.
The #17 NASCAR was driven by Matt, but now is driven by Chris Busher for RFK racing. Matt retired from driving a few years ago. He was the original R&L Carrier driver.
Thank you for the info. By the way, have you been through Starke, FL lately? They built a 70mph bypass around the town. It makes travelling down 301 a lot better than before!!
Just out of curiosity, do you ever try to reach out to any of these big companies public relations people or COO types to interview them? I would think a professional driver who makes respectful profile videos on the various carriers would be of great interest to them. Especially since they literally have “now hiring” painted on their Top Fuel dragster. Keep up the great content
I actually do. Unfortunately, none of the companies ever get back to me. I'm not sure why, I try to be as honest as I can about the companies but they never respond to me.
Not a bad co...I work for one of their LTL competitors..the only bad thing with r & l..their city drivers don't get overtime all the way to 60 hours and they make you pay for pallette jack and dolly
They deduct like $25/wk from your paycheck, and you can get an electric pallet jack. The company maintains it 100%. So, you're renting it, not buying it.
Absolutely. I am looking forward to doing both of those companies. Check out my video on Jones Motor Express. I originally thought that Mawson and Mawson was the oldest company in the US but it turns out that Jones beat them by a year. Stand by for more videos!!
Now if only they can learn to schedule something over email instead of expecting me to sit by the phone for days on end waiting for recruiting to call me.
I was leased to Gator when R&L bought them. Robert’s and a son came to our terminal and met with the O/PS. They looked right at us and LIED About what they were going to do for us. In less than a year they only had 2 or 3 Gator O/PS left. I have heard a lot of company drivers brag about them over the years, but have also heard a lot of complaints also. Seemed to be a lot of things that you were unsure of. Do more research!

As the Peterbilt salesman who called on RL in their early days your right on. How ironic I now live 15 miles from their World Class Equestrian Center

Does it actually cost you anything or is it a free benefit??

@@truckingresources4240 -- Hi Rob. I'm Mark.
Work 55 hours and no overtime…I washed my hands of this LTL carrier long time ago
The family also owns farm land tractor implement company as well as they operate several Hotels and a equestrian center in Florida

Well R&L doesn't sponsor anyone in nascar anymore but they are still very prominent in the world of NHRA
It is what they say it is we have a seniority pool in October
Would u do a video on skinners transfer Corp in Reedsburg wi I work for them going on 6 years now great company to be at

Thanks for letting me know. I haven't actually followed NASCAR for a long time and didn't realize that he retired.
R+L is no longer involved in nascar
I like your videos along. I am retired from SAIA great company. I would like for you to due a story on a Utah basis company DATS Trucking. Thank You.
Yes the resorts are free to employees and their families
R+L Carriers shows to have 9492 power units, 9677 drivers and a Legal Name of Greenwood Motor Lines with R L as the DBA
Gator Freight was started by some farmers in Starke, Fl
Thank you for the info. By the way, have you been through Starke, FL lately? They built a 70mph bypass around the town. It makes travelling down 301 a lot better than before!!
Ain’t been thru Starke in years. Retired from AAA Cooper Transportation. You should do a video on them someday.
@@emorygriffis362 I definitely will. Aren't they owned by Swift now??
Yes, but still ran as a separate company.
No overtime and there insurance sucks . Cheers from northern indiana usa

I'm really not sure how I feel about that!!
If they still sponsor the 17 it would be Chris Buescher
Can you do a video about Ace doran they been around over 100 years solid company & Mawson & Mawson also been around over 100 years

They are non union we’re considered a rag bag company for a longtime underpaid drivers for a long time compared to other LTL companies
My nephew johnnys friend works for R+ L carrier in North Carolina. His name is Mike and i messenged him to watch your video. Maybe mike can help you
