As much as it is easy to get caught up in tone comparisons, believe me it will come down to the COMFORT of playing. The tone is still great on the 000/OM and as we all know the best guitar for you is the one you actually PLAY a lot. For me, dreads cut into my arm too much. I have a D-18, but 90% of the time I pick up my 00 or 000 or OM. They fit me like a glove!
The OOO and OM are build to be great for fingerpicking. Less mass on the soundboard helps you move the top better and the thinner back makes the picking more articulate, while on a dreddy you need more energy to move the top, and fingerpicking can sometimes get a little muddled.
I love the 000 because of Noah Gundersen, the Dreadnought because of Penny & Sparrow. I have an Aspen acoustic that looks like a Martin Dreadnought. I still plan to one day bring home a 000 Martin to keep for life.
I’ve played great dread guitars, but I’ve put them down and never wanted to pick them up again. OM guitars and parlour guitars are SO much more complex, engaging, dynamically able, comfortable and versatile. Honestly stumped why anyone buys dreads, unless all they want to do is strum chords.
The 28 is my favorite acoustic i do prefer the ooo due to it's shorter scale length and i find it easier to play standing up. Ambertone looks amazing to me! I enjoy your video's! Thanks!!
I have the HD-28V (12 years old) and the 000-18 (about 8 years old). I love them both! At 76 years old, I can still play them both with ease. I've found that using Martin's Retro Monel strings helps me keep playing. I may try the new Luxe strings but I can't imagine them being any more pliable than the Retro strings. I also keep a Martin DR-E Junior handy (out of the case) just for working on something that comes to mind. Started playing when I was 8 Years old so I've played just about everything out there and found my three Martin's to be all I'll ever need.
The Dread of course is louder, has more boom in the lowend...the 000 here seems to be more articulate/definition and responds much quicker and has more projection.
I'm really torn between a dreadnought and the OOO. Idk which I want to go with. I prefer the size and shape of the ooo but I also prefer the sound of the dreadnought. I'm gonna go crazy!!! 🤪
@Kevin Raimond yea I agree. I really don't wanna miss out on the deep sound of a dreadnought since martin is already known for. But I've never played a 000. And I really want to lol.
@@danielallen7384ice. I actually only own a 000-28 Custom Authentic 1937 now. But thats one hell of a 000-28 to own. Not your normal 000. I sold a very special hog backed Martin GE with Swiss alpine top and Swiss bracing. All because I was planning onna custom sinker. Hurt my shoulder. Had to cancel an insane custom Now I'm either gonna go with a authentic 28 when I heal, hopefully I do, or maybe a custom 28 strait braced 28 similar to what you got. Everyone goes super thin authentic bracing etc nowadays. What they forget is your 28, the strait braced one, is going to age unbelievably down the road. There are no shortcuts. Good choice. I still might go OM instead
I have dreadnought it's uncomfortable....am 180cm and which will be better for me...om or gs mini ..I like to sing strum, finguring but am confused Om lower bout 38cm . mini is 36.5 and and scale is 64.5 and 59.6 Which will best for me...👍 I need GUITAR with comfort..and best sound
@@rawvocals4227 Really depends on your budget. If you'd like to stay around $1000 american, then I'd look at an Eastman OM or the new Yamaha FS5 is a great guitar.
Both are killer. I'm 5'10". I adjust more playing a dred off of my knee. They do want to slide down your leg. The 000 is far more comfortable. I love the huge sound from a dred. If you play with others you will easily over power them. My 000 Martin plays well with a J45 and most other dreds. Honestly, you're going to grab the 000 over the dred because you can relax on the couch and play.
I like the sound of the dreadnought twice as much as the OOO. But I'm a skinny 5 feet 7 inches dude. So I'm going for the OOO but there must be some kind of hacks to make it sound more bassy. (Brands, woods, strings, tuning, anything that could help reduce the brightness) anyone versed in this topic to show some direction?
I have a 000-28 and a D-28. The go to guitar is the 000-28 as it's far more comfortable to play - I'm in my 70s. I am even considering selling the Dreadnought - it sounds brilliant, but is so uncomfortable COMPARED with the 000.
After so many years with just a dread, I'm tired of the tone. I find myself gravitating towards smaller bodied guitars. I've got a parlor and a Martin 00...and I need to pick up a 000/OM

Really wish someone out there would make a straight braced guitar. Not 1 scalloped braced works for my ears. And get rid of the mod low oval thin neck. I need a d18 straight braced guitar or om. Really nice guitars tho.
As much as I love Quentin, Paul really needs to switch up the people demoing the guitars. Quentin is a 1000% Blue Grass dreadnought person and in EVERY video he comments on the guitar’s bass response versus a dread. And in this one he plays the 000 as though it was a dread being played at a blue grass festival. A 000 is such a more versatile instrument than a dreadnought. Makes no sense. Come on, Paul! You guys can still have coffee together!
I agree Scott. I enjoy their banter. I was being a slight bit facetious. But it did seem like they we're repeating themselves that I was anxious to hear thr guitars
Demo starts at 4:37

Spot on. I find myself getting tired and uncomfortable after playing the dread for some time, but this doesn't happen with the 000.
Yeah unless you are a 6'2 and above guy play a 000 feel much better
Applause to the film and editing crew...excellent sound, marvelous editing between these two guitars...thank you, it is enjoyable.
I thought I would have chosen the dreadnought, but I was falling for the 000, more open. Thanks to both of you 👍
Absolutely beautiful guitars. I think I would go with the 000 for the comfort factor though.
I own both, and my 1972 D28 has been in the case since I bought a new 2020 000-28 last July in the height of the pandemic.
Both sound great, a big open sound versus a solid mid range.
I think the OOO would be easier to record and cut through the mix.

That's why dread work great with pick
Exactly. Although the right 000 can boom with a pick
I love the 000 because of Noah Gundersen, the Dreadnought because of Penny & Sparrow. I have an Aspen acoustic that looks like a Martin Dreadnought. I still plan to one day bring home a 000 Martin to keep for life.
Wow, the sound from the 28 sounds so balanced to my ears
Both of those instruments are going to make their owners very happy.

JT did play a Gibson slope shoulder dread in the early years.

Dread all the way!
EDIT: I take it back, in this particular comparison, the OOO is incredibly nice. Great balance!
Or get GPC16, somewhere dreadnaught size with OOO depth. Eagerly waiting for one
Just get both: problem solved haha.

Okay you have me totally confused, what’s the difference between between the CFM OM and 000?
OM: long scale, 000: short scale.
Why do they say a triple O is better for finger style than a dreadnought can finger style be played on a dreadnought?
Definitely can
James Taylor has done a nice series about his guitars. One of his very earliest being a Dreadnought…
