I’m chuffed to have found your channel, great sport and great country too. I do my shooting over cockers here in Norfolk England and I really appreciate the way you guys hunt. Thanks for sharing your experiences
Best grouse hunting videos on the internet! I check for new videos almost every day. I just got back from the UP and just didn’t see very good numbers. Hardly any woodcock and was only getting 10-12 flushes a day on grouse. It was a struggle but we did manage to kill several birds and was a great trip regardless. Great stuff man. Keep it coming!
Appreciate that and the comment man! Glad you guys managed to get into some birds, there's nothing quite like that country. Best of luck the rest of the season and thanks for following along 👍🏻
Last Sunday (my only day off) I traveled 2 hours to one of my favorite honey holes for Big Ruffed Grouse and to my horror the DNR had cleared 7 20 acre lots to the ground not a bird in sight. Great video. God Bless
@@UplanderLifestyle not in this state. It was one of the last places I could go to find good grouse. The DNR has destroyed many other good habitats I used to hunt. I live 5 minutes away from Mt. Baker and I haven't seen any grouse in 8 years! They keep deforestation going, killing broods. It sad.
Love watching the Northwoods hunts! Great dog work too! Not a lot of wooded hunting opportunities where I'm located so thank you for sharing. Was a fun watch!
Great video! Way too many videos of guys driving roads and shooting birds on the ground or off of limbs this video here is grouse and woodcock hunting at its best.
As usual top notch video…went out with my new uplander hat and got a limit of grouse in just under three hours. Had a first for myself today got the first five grouse I shot at…7 shells for a limit!
You could have had breakfast in bed. In your truck bed😂 You had to know it was going to be a good day after that. Nothing like taking your best friend’s for a walk in the woods in October with a good double. Great video👍
It was gonna go either one of two after I saw that grouse next to the truck. We were gonna have a great day or see nothing at all 🤣 ended up being a good one!
What a excellent video Cliff I liked the habitat lesson and the dog work was great. I always enjoy your hunts and really looking forward to pt 2. Was that your new shotgun because you did some good shooting. You did some great tree trimming with it too. Lol
I talk about that at the end of the video before this one, you can check it out here Back in the Northwoods! Early Season Ruffed Grouse Hunting with a NEW SXS! ruclips.net/video/Ur25b-ynAqk/видео.html Thanks for following along!
That tail fan though haha. Another great video. I need to get to the skeet range more is what I am learning. Poor Arlo prob wants you to adopt him haha
Ha! I think the biggest thing when grouse hunting is just being a quick shot. If you can pull up and shoot quick instinctively, you'll be knocking birds down.
I've watched your videos for a while now and it's really good to see someone hunting with a sxs. They seem to be making a resurgence. How do you like the new Weatherby over the old Stoeger Uplander. A little lighter and quicker handling?
Thanks for following along! I have been enjoying shooting the new Weatherby, it is a touch lighter and has a slimmer profile overall which makes it nicer to hold. It’s balanced good and I’ve been shooting it well since I picked it up 👍🏻
Another grear video, very enjoyable. Your insights on grouse habitat ID are much appreciated. You seemed to know the exact age of the aspen cuts. Are you using an app, such as Northwinds or otherwise to gather this intel?
Hey cliff great video. Quick question, how did you track back to your hand held? Don't understand what was telling you that you were so far away from it.
Thanks Craig! My bad on that I did forget to leave out one piece of the puzzle, which was my Garmin watch I wear. It connects to my handheld via Bluetooth and tells me my dogs distance and direction, just like the handheld does. The Bluetooth connection range between the handheld and watch is like 30 feet, so when I lost the handheld unit, my watch eventually lost connection with it too. And that’s how this all started when I looked down at my watch and noticed it was stuck on saying the dog was 34 yards away. So as I back tracked I was hoping to get close enough to the handheld that my watch would connect again. I did get close enough and the watch connected and said the dog was 13 feet away from it. So I grabbed the dogs gps collar, and walked in the direction my watch said the distance was to the handheld until I found it.
@@UplanderLifestyle I have a Garmin 200i and a Samsung watch. I wonder if I can connect like that as well. Great tool as I had mine pop off the belt clip. Have you ever hunted the Upper Peninsula in Michigan? I am in NY and can walk 5 miles and only put up 1 or 2 grouse.
What would you say your connection on birds is? My Small Munsterlander is working on pointing like Fox but she put up 8 birds the other day, felt so bad i missed them all.
I don’t have an exact number, but I’ve been shooting over 50% on the season, I’m probably connecting on every 3 out of 5 birds I’m shooting at. Good luck the rest of the season to you and your pup!
Garming T5 Mini tracking collars which connect to a Garmin ASTRO 430 handheld GPS unit, then the GPS unit pairs to my Garmin Instinct watch via bluetooth to show the tracking info.
I’m up here in northern Wisconsin and the grouse season has been fun! Wanting to switch out a semi 12ga for either over under or side by side. Any recommendations, pros cons for the two double guns? Awesome videos and amazing shooting and dog work!
I’ve been shooting a side by side for the past 3 years and I really enjoy them, especially for grouse hunting. The two barrels with the bead between them give your eye a natural spot to look to when shouldering the gun. I believe because of that I get on target much faster to connect on shots. Thanks for following along!
@@UplanderLifestyle great answers and I am currently looking at the Cz bobwhite g2 southpaw and looking forward to that being a great gun for up here. Thanks for the advice and keep on hunting and doing work. Love the dogs!!!
Great Video! Grew up in Northern Minnesota and live in Montana. I can honestly say grouse and woodcock hunting in MN with my Springer is the only hunting I miss. Bird hunting here is amazing just no woodcock. Your Dogs are really impressive. Now that I retired from MT FWP hopefully I can head east next year. What breed are your pups?
Thank you for following along! There’s something magical about being in the grouse woods this time of year, as I’m sure you know 👍🏻 my dogs are Brittany’s! Thanks for following along and your service to FWP of the years, congrats on retirement. Good luck this season!
@@UplanderLifestyle I thought they were Brittany's just wanted to verify. I had to put my last Springer down this spring so I don't have a dog now. I had a friend in MN who had a Brittany it was an amazing dog. I may consider one. I actually retired as Director and really loved the job!
It's nice to see a guy with decent dogs, that does it right. Steady on point, and retrieve to hand. Only downfall is the double. 😂
Thank you 🤭

Absolutely great grouse hunting video. Jealous as sin and wish I was there with you. Thank you for taking me along.

Love your videos. Thank you. Cheers.
Great video and hunting! Nice shooting amongst all those trees and love how you work with your dogs
Thanks man! the trees keep it interesting, sometimes you just gotta shoot regardless!
Ive been home from Montanna for a week,NOW you have me ready to go up to Mich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good to hear from you this year! Hope you had a great trip, good luck the rest of the season!
Love the explanation of hunting area choices.
Great to hear man 👍🏻
Enjoyed the Dog work, quiet handling and if I thought shooting jinking rabbits in and out of cover was hard it is nothing on this. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not gonna lie I'm kind of jealous of the Woodcock ramen.
We’ll put it on the menu at home this week 🤌🏻
