- Today we will be installing Pi-Hole and Pi-VPN on your Raspberry Pi. I will go step by step on how to install and quickly setup both pieces of software. I also show you how to connect to PI-VPN on Linux and Windows.

Thanks for the help. This got my Pi-Hole up and running great. I live in the middle of nowhere. I use a 4G LTE router for my internet through ATT. I have tried many ways to get into my home network, but nothing seems to work. Is there some software out there to allow me to connect to my RPI ssh? I was hoping Pi-VPN had a way in, but it needed the open port and an ip address.
You would need to log into your 4G router .. some do not allow you to open ports. You will have to call your manufacturer to see if they can open ports
great video - one quick question can the VPN be on the same pi as pihole or does it need a separate one? The main use I want is for my partner when he is working in China, I know how dificult it is to VPN out of China as I lived in Shanghi a few years ago.
Mine was done on a same pi.. RPI8G and you will be fine.. 4G as well

I take it that the pivpn doesn't hide any taffic that is used on the computer within the LAN. It's not really apparent. Many people would set this up & expect their home computer would be protected. Maybe I misunderstand how this works but I think it's important for people to know whether setting this up at home will protect the home network from prying eyes.

Ready to install Pi-Vpn. Will the pi-vpn stop me from viewing Sling, Amazon Prime or Disney?
I assume the logs get filled up! How do you delete them for both products?
There should be logrotate I guess for the Linux system

Is it possible something like port forwarding needs to be configured on the router to grant external openvpn client(s) access to the internal rasp-pi running pivpn?
Yes.. it was stated in the video you need to setup port forwarding on your router for openvpn to work

Hey! I couldnt understand, but, how many devices can be connected to pivpn? I tried to config openvpn server on my Linux pc, and can only use 2 simultaneously ( to add more I have to pay).

I set up Pi-Hole on my RPi 3b+ and it was great. However, even though I used Raspberry OS Lite there are still a HUGE number of services and ports listening! (systemctl --type=service --state=active) So, I put UFW on it, but I can't figure out what port(s) Pi-Hole needs. Please help!

unfortunately after 1 week usinh pihole all advertisments are back:( (blocklist 1,2M with 17% blocked) Any hints how to improve ad blocking?
unfortunetly there is no 100% way to block. Most companies like RUclips and Facebook keep changing their ads and how they get around software like this. But there is a few posts online on some ad blocking scripts for pi-hole.

Is it a good idea to run Pi Hole and Pi VPN on the same Pi 4? Wondering if it would bog it down, or work well....
If you use a pi4 it will be fine .. I run both on my pi4 with no problem but I have seen, and I have as well, put it on a pi zero and work just fine..
Can I have RaspAp running on the same pi?
I'm curious too, did you find out anything? I tried to run the install after installing PiVPN, but nothing happened...
So are these running all the time now? Like if you restart the PI do they automatically start up again?

how do I get the .ovpn file from raspberry pi? (to windows or email the file for example) I tried Google but can't find an awnser... I'm jusing ssh/putty
I use WinSCP to transfer files from my headless pi to my PC.. you can also use filezilla

Will it work if I setup my router's DHCP to provide a fixed IP address to my rasp-pi (based on its MAC address) and the rasp-pi to continue using DHCP mode to get it's IP address, rather than configuring the rasp-pi with a static IP address (therefore ignoring the router's DHCP assignment)?
I don't see why it wouldn't, but I also don't see why you wouldn't static your raspberry pi anyway 🤷🏻♂️

Just a general-purpose question for my own understanding
It's also because when you want to add/change port-forwarding for pivpn, all the info (rasp-pi's IP address and forwarding port) is in one place (the router's configuration) in case you want to change them, for whatever reason.

Does anyone know if PiVPN w/ OVPN uses TLS1.2 or 1.3 to secure communication?
I believe it's 1.3. it will use the current security specs at the time of downloading. If you downloaded it recently then it should be 1.3 but I'm not 100% sure without looking at the readme files
