What is a good width for mountaineers? I'm not really in the know with the meta of combat widths, and yeah no idea why japan has 3 slots.. rather annoying
@@Curtwhogames With the new updates, terrain widths changed a lot. If you check Mountains, you will see that it only allows 50 width + 25 per extra province. That limits a lot how much firepower and/or defence you can put there for each battle. In your case, if you only attack from one side, you can put 2 divisions at full strength (but you waste 10 extra width that can be used for more power) or you can force 3 divisions by going over the limit by 10 width (with all the power degradation you would expect). Having 25 width mountaineers make this the most effective attack/defense unit on that terrain, but they won't be as effective in other terrains. I personally use them as speciallised troops to attacks mountains, and sometimes hills, but otherwise I reserve them for mountain defence exclusively because they become next to immovable with all the bonuses and the non-optimized divisions of the AI (I use normal infantry for hill defence).
My AI: "Oh, you´ve got 10 great carriers against my crappy 6? Sux to be you, to the bottom you go!" Your AI: "Oh, you´ve got 2 carriers!!! What the hell am I going to do? I´ve got only 8!!"
Not many know this, but Japans holdings were still quite sizable by the time the war ended, the US and Allies mostly focused on taking islands that would allow a easier time landing into Japan itself, since taking every square inch owuld be difficult, tiresome, and take too long. Plus cutting the supplies at the source would force other areas to give in.
Great game. I do wonder why do you build hybrid fighter CAS planes instead of dedicated CAS and fighters. Is it worth it or is it more efficient to build specific planes for their roles.
