    19:09 - You ask why they wouldn't want it to go to the task force. The answer is that they don't trust the other investigative group (the task force) because they know that task force is commissioned by the governor that's from the same family as the head of the church that Marty and Rust believe the case is connected to. So they don't want it to turn over to what they believe is a corrupt/connected element that would cover it up. As far as career, there's no penalty or anything. Detectives and cases go cold all the time if there simply isn't enough information to act on. Rust and Marty just don't want it to get out of their hands specifically because of their suspicions about who is connected to the crime... They just need more actionable information to build from.

    After Rust dropped that truth bomb about people's behavior and divine reward... I knew he was one of my more favorite characters.
    That and when he said, he's a realist. But philosophically would be considered a pessimist. Because he sees the world for what it is: on fire.

    Feel free to make fun of my small town upbringing.... And the subsequent star struck- edness of this comment.
    I joined the Navy out of high school and got stationed in New Orleans. It was shore duty meaning unlike sea duty it is much more like a day to day job. We Had working hours that were kept to more often than not, And we had weekends off more often than not. Like any ambitious kid in a new place with time on his hands. I got a part-time job. That job was at a skating rink in Terrytown Louisiana which is a suburb of New Orleans. Skate Country Westbank it was called. I enjoyed that job and made pretty much every real friend that I ever made in new orleans through connections there. Then there I was one year after honorably discharging from the Navy, watching this cool new show called True Detective. And suddenly I recognize one of the places they go to interview somebody.
    I nearly crap my pants because one of my favorite jobs ever, is in 1 of my favorite television shows ever. They filmed an entire scene at Skate Country and I found out that same day. That they came in to film it 3 WEEKS after I moved duty stations and left New Orleans. I could have cried because they ALL got to meet Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. I feel so cheated lol.

    keep in mind that the series is set in south Louisiana. It is so different from any other place in the world it might as well be mars. In a previous vid, you commented on the little girls out on the streets...that is almost entirely due to abject poverty. You don't have clothes, food, anything. And "mowing the grass" is NOT a metaphor. You do not ever mow another guys yard unless he asks you to. It's like saying they are not MEN. And you won't ask another man to mow the yard unless you are in the hospital on your death bed...it's that serious. And just wait till episode 4!!

  • @HonkHonkler
    @HonkHonkler Год назад +3

    Women's reaction to Marty cheating is just ONE out of the MANY examples that perfectly exemplify how the female brain measures things between being OBJECTIVELY evil/bad to a minor character flaw birth from true trauma, they're being overemotional about. Marty is literally investigating a murderer that's killing prostitutes (the thing you'd think women would be MORE concerned about since it's usually women who are prostitutes and end up murder by some psycho, certainly something I'd be and am more concerned about and I'm not even a woman), men and women live in two completely separate worlds I'm learning as I get older. It's just biological, mixed with men never really sharing their trauma or the things they've experience/seen with women. Cops, especially detectives come across A LOT of sad and gruesome scenes in their line of work, not to dissimilar to a solider, they get PTSD or continuous minor psychological trauma scars from the things they have to witness.
    Great example being detectives that have to sit through a serial killers murder/torture tapes. Men (who are typically the protectors of reality) don't like sharing that with women and children who don't need to heart/witness it. Marty's way of decompressing from all that is wrong is a monogamous relationship sense no doubt, but it's so weird how women measure men's moralities. Oh cheated? Oh well then he might as well be serial killer and grapist, like wtf? The man is cheating, not beating his fxcking wife or daughters.
    Rust Cohle is my literally me character of multiple reasons (like philosophy on life and existence, 100% agree with him on everything), but this is another in simply being okay being alone. Never had a GF and the older I get, the less I want one and realize women ether disappoint/annoy me and I'm too critical and can't hold my tongue. Like Cohle, I know who I am and there is a sort of victory in that, you can't make us budge.

    • @lockekappa500
      @lockekappa500 Год назад +1

      To clarify, I think the taking what Rust says as Bible is just as bad as what these "women" are doing with Marty's infidelity. Rust even finds later on that a lot of the ways he thought wasn't entirely accurate.

      Quite the emotion you emphasize about other's judgement. How do you know women's reactions are objective valuations, and not subjective ones they feel strong about?
      And how do you tell someone's character flaw from birth, versus their _"true trauma"_ ?
      Seems like if you shared Rust's views, you'd see all adults as responsible for their behaviour, if they're ready to vow marriage, buy a house, raise kids. You think child rearing is terrible, but attitudes to partner cheating is overblown? Strange as it's the act that leads to birth, and the act you don't think substantiates someone's character.
      I agree killing is far more severe, even though we eat and kill and contribute to geopolitical slayings with our lifestyles anyway. But who compared Marty to a serial killer? Bisscute and other streamers showed more revulsion to the antagonists than she did the detectives, but one of these subjects is more personally relatable and resonant in our world than the other. Can you guess which one? Vocalizing does not equate objectifying.
      How is Marty's infidelity suddenly the isolated case that people judge him for, and not everything else for which his wife and in-laws disapprove of him? I think you'd find public opinion pretty cemented about the characters long before his unfaithfulness was ever revealed.
      Also don't know why you compared what you'd be more concerned about as a woman, while not being one. I don't know how many prostitutes you've talked to but there was nothing you contributed about it to your talking point. They made those boundaries when they got married. He broke them. I never saw Maggie as delicate or insensitive to others, being an ER employee as interested as she was in Rust's trauma, but you sure put every woman in a box about how they relate to anxiety and unfaithfulness, so you made that clear.

There's a quote he's gonna say later in the show on the nature of men/women & kids that I also 100% agree with. You'll know it when it happens, with a specific character after a specific thing, just keep that in mind once the quote is said. Not only do I agree, I think he's 100% correct. We're put on this planet for ONE purpose, everything is filler and humans trying to make it work when it just isn't our nature as beings on this planet, never was suppose to be.
