Absolutely! I have a set of Eye 2 BeCu and they're still as good as anything out there and a blast to play. Someone should set Liam up with the matching laminate woods. He'd be shocked at how good they play too!
That just shows how much you care about OMP. Nothing wrong with that mate. By the way, you are hitting off the toe because you are not setting up near the hosel like OMP told you to. 😉
You guys are the best. I found this channel just two weeks ago and I look for new videos every night. As to the clubs, I had my career round of 74 with Ping ISI's that came out in the early 90's. Still have them 25 years later. They are a little funky looking but get the job done. If the mates ever get to Scottsdale, AZ, USA, I would love to watch you guys play and buy you a beer; hell, I'll buy you dinner. We have over 100 golf courses in the Phoenix metro area, I'm sure you can find one that you would like. Cheers!
Liam I just want to say pal, there’s a lot of golf channels on here but none come close to the joy you bring into peoples life. I’m a 25 year old lad who never picked up a golf club before last year, I’ve watched videos online of golfers but only your videos make me feel great about playing the game. Have a class time in Ireland with OMP the blokes a true gent and thank you for making these videos you make amateurs like me fall in love with the game and encourage everyone to get out and play for fun with their mates 👍🏼
I like this video very much. I've started playing again after 30 years and my 845's have been sitting in the garage with dust all over them. I brought them new and they were the best of the best back in the day. I've tried new clubs like Cobra and even some Cleveland hybrid irons and the TA 845's Silver Scots still stand up and feel wonderful. But I will say now I'm older swinging the steel 845's tends to wear this old boy out and I've been told by a pro golfer that they are the heaviest clubs he has played, but gees they sure do look good and hit straight.
By far my FAVOURITE RUclipsr going! Most of the golf channels are a struggle to watch at times. But Liam you have nailed it, your honesty, your humour and the fact you are a 'real player keeps me watching day in and day out! Thank you for the content! I'm a complete novice golfer but your channel has motivated me to really give this sport a go!!
I just started at 59 I figured that with a brain injury the docs wanted me to walk so me and the wife bought wilson profile sgi club sets and we’re having fun 🤪
When Ive got some free time I will come up and help you with the camera work Bro, This site full of golfers who just love the game and what youre doing are amazing eh? Its unreal what a community of good blokes can do!! Everywhere we go!!! Keep up the great work Liam, regards from Fraser
Lad I live 5 minutes from Newlands golf club played it loads as a juvenile would love to come up and say hello to you and the omp. Absolutely top notch what your doing for him and the sport this channel is exactly what British and Irish golf needs!
I play the 845 oversize Irons 3 - pw with sand wedge and 60 degree. I Love that set.. Best irons I've ever played. I'd take them over the ping eye 2 all day.
#golfmates me and my mate dean are new to golf over the past couple on months we have gone from going driving range once a week and owning zero clubs to playing pitch and put at Heaton park.. watched a few golf vlogs and bought a few slazenger clubs..now we are playing at Castle Hawk in north mancheater pretty regularly.. your videos have made up into pretty good golfers..we h e bought some clubs . my m8 deans smashing drivers 300 yards but I cant hit the driver for toffee.. our short game is on point... we are almost breaking 90 most the time . And all we have done is watch your videos... we would be buzzing if you gave u a shout out... two of the best up and coming amateur golfers in Manchester DAN AND DEAN...
I bought the Silver Scot's in the 1990's and absolutely loved them. They brought my handicap down from a 10 to a 2 and when I got a TaylorMade Midsize driver, I began to play scratch golf. They were awesome clubs and had the feel of forged but were cavity backs, which gives a lot more forgiveness on off center hits, and you could hit a stinger or a high soft lander quite easily. Great video and thanks for the laughs and bringing back some great memories!
The reason to keep striking the Ping Eye 2 near the toe,is because it's a blue dot model, which is I believe 1 degree upright. The upright lie results in toe hits if you are fit for a flatter lie, which I guess you are. Great video. I still use the Eye 2 sand wedge. Automatic from the sand still.
When I first started golfing in the mid-90s I bought a used set of Ping Eye2s. Along with the irons I bought a Ping 3 wood and 5 wood. These are real wood woods! Loved the irons so much I played them up to 2012, when I bought a new set of Pings irons, but I am still swinging the wood woods. There is nothing sweeter then the sound of these woods....crack!
Gotta be the Maxfli Australian Blade! 🇦🇺👍🏼 but admittedly the Ping Eye 2 were game changers. Used to lust after the beryllium cooper versions as a teenager. The old laminate woods were also pretty game changing in terms of shape.
Only just found this place, Liam. PMSL a couple of times at breakfast, so it has deffo got my attention. I’ve got TA 855’s parked in the garage that I played in the 90’s - brother to the 845’s. Still great clubs with sensible lofts, which are stamped on the face. Brilliant idea. Anyway, channel wise looks like I’ve got a bit of back catalogue binge watching to do to catch up. Cheers.
I first saw the Pings back in the 80s when everyone was playing blades. They were amazingly different to every other club and I wanted a set (but couldn’t afford them at the time). They were a revolution in their day and were the first cavity back irons that I saw.
Could be the large offset on the pings that's putting you off. Lumpy herron played eye 2 for about 25 yrs on the PGA tour. I'm voting pings. Keep up the great work Liam, you truly are the peoples golfer, cheers.
@Flashy Paws Mine are, what, 30+ years old and you'd have to use a gun to get them from me. I made mention the other day I still have the Wilson Staff I played when I was a kid. I'll neve let them go either.
Just got a set in yesterday, and took them out this morning. Like them. Once I get the right grips (for me) on there, I think I'm going to really enjoy these things!!
I just bought them today. very happy man .3iron-sw with matching numbers and the ZZ lite shaft. I used to have them back in the days. Sold them but regretted it big time. Now a bit to old for my blades with riffle 6.0 shaft so Ping let's go!!!!
I have to say Ping Copper Beryllium ( excuse the spelling) ..we can still get them on Ebay..but the 845 were great..priced a lot cheaper as well...can't beat the Pings.!! I am crying Liam, you are great!!
New club golfer here - joined Stock Brook in Essex last month. I’m still working on breaking 100 but played a round on Saturday and was asking myself “what would OMP do here?” a few times. Keep up the great content 👍
I still have my Ping Eye 2+ irons that my parents bought me in 1991. I LOVE those clubs. My son plays with them now at an 8 handicap and that just makes me smile. Cheers from a proud Golfmate in the U.S.
Hi, I had a set of them pigs lugs, Ping Zing 2 loved them, got me down to 9 , did the job, love the comment about pulling a bird at 2am lol, course looks canny condition, cheers x, great live feed last night, Awesome
Ping Eye 2...not a good looker, but my father played with a set many moons ago and loved them...shocking eye sight!!You should be on Sky Sports with Wayne Riley, your way of describing shots and clubs are brilliant...I still keep saying them over and over in my head hours after watching your videos and laughing...which means strange looks form the wife!!!!!If you manage the caravan trip you and the lads are always welcome for a game...just shout!!I'm so please for OMP it'll be a fantastic trip, enjoy mate!!!
I had a set of Cobra One Lengths Forged Tec for a Christmas Gift (used) and a set of PING EYE 2 irons from my old man. Long Story short - sold the cobras, and had the Pings regripped. Playing better golf, having more fun!
Yeah, I know they came out awhile ago, but I never understood the single size cobra clubs, it literally doesn't make scientific sense to enable your best golf games. You lose alot of distance in certain clubs when you don't increase its shaft legnth, and if the length isn't for you, just get a less stuff shaft and it that allows you to utilize the potential of long distance clubs. So why tf would you take any advantage away from u that u could giveyourself? Espec when ur playing with ppl who take golf scores too seriously. My best friend is like 5 foot 1 and I was considering maybe buying him those clubs for his birthday cuz he just got into golfing pretty heavy, and he loves cobra, cuz he focuses 100% of this game on accuracy rather than distance, cuz he can only drive about 200 yards max, but he mostly hits it in a good position for thks nxt shot, and that's how he keeps his handicap so low. But other than someone in his position, I cant really see how single length shafts would benefit anyone's game
Yeah I think the Tommy Armours move on to the final. I always liked to look of the Tommy Armour, I’ve got the 855’s which are pretty similar to the 845 oversized your using. The 7 iron was a trusty club, always hit good shots with that. Ping Eye 2 always looked a bit crook to me
Getting back in the game (here in the states) after a 20 year hiatus. In 1992, I bought my first new, full set of clubs; they were TA 845s. The irons must have cost me 5 or $600. I was choosing between them, and the Ping Eye 2s. Interestingly enough, my reaction or thoughts between the two were the same as yours. I paid a pretty penny for them then -- unfortunately today one could pick of a complete set delivered for under $100. Would you change the loft angle on the irons to compete with today's irons? Love watching you Golfmates!
Hi Liam, I'm just viewing this before Christmas 2022 and it takes me back to the the Golf Mates "legacy" period. What a great video, the course, the clubs and your one man does it all production. I recognize that the Golf Mates (not to mention Four Four 2), channel has evolved/matured but these "early" videos are special - Thanks! Happy Christmas to All!
Played Tommy armour 845s for at least 10 years. Switched to mizuno mx 200 and lastly to mizuno jpx. No doubt in my mind that the 845s clubs are the best. Still will play my 845s every now and then. I absolutely love them.
Liam, I started playing golf with the Browning 440 Low Profile Irons, if you can get hold of some you have to try them. Great live show last evening I was in tears as well, not sure with laughter or along with you and OMP. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for showing the part of yesterday’s video re OMP. What great people Golf Mates are! GOLF MATES rule! I went to the course yesterday to try OMP’s strategy and liked my results. Keep up the great work.
I can't tell for sure if the running to the camera bit is intended to be funny, but either way, you struck some comedy gold. Keep doing what you're doing.
Liam you gutted me brother when you said the PINGs looked "good at 2:00am" , "the ugly step sister" etc. I've had my PINGs since 1988 and still use them. i think they are a beautiful club so easy to play. So I'm biased and say the PING EYE 2 are the best plus best selling iron of all time...........No contest. Good video sir!
Just came across your channel with this video. Fantastic, I'm a big fan of the Tommy Armour 845s and 855s. Great channel and keep up the good work! Subscribed
Great videos great fun. I had lots of friends with the Ping eye2's everyone loved them. I did have the the i3's and played them for about 10yrs. All great clubs. I am from Arizona USA the home of ping......probably a little biased. Keep the videos coming.
Never had a set of cavity backs. I started with Spaulding Top-Flite irons and graduated to Titleist Accu-flo. Just last week I stepped up to Titleist 718 MB and have recaptured that loving feeling again. I guess the best irons are the ones that make you the most confident. :)
Never used the Pings or those Tommy Armour clubs. My Tommy Armour were forged Silver Scott Tourney. The closest irons in design were the Wilson Gear Effect set with stiff steel shafts. They worked well for me before getting Calloway S2H2 irons in the late 8o’s which worked well until I replaced them with Cobra F-Max SuperLite irons. Cheers!!
You are the rising star of the golf world :) Great job. Whenever you come to Belgium, visit us in Antwerp and play a nice round of golf and create a fun golf video together!
On the strength of this video I chanced upon a set of Tommy Armour 855 Silver Scots. £35 off Gumtree, I've re-gripped them and I kid you not , having played with them twice they are fantastic. I'm a 17h/c and played level 4s for ten holes last night, and a little bit poorer tonight. I'm now in a dilemma as they've played better than my modern Rkt Bladez! Keep up the good work
great video. FYI... I still play the Callaway S2H2’s which are of the same vintage. I have bought and sold lots of sets over time and always go back to the old S2H2’s.....best irons callaway ever made. do a video with those old babies. you will be impressed!
Would be interesting to see a video putting the ping eye 2 irons against your ping i irons and see what difference all those years have made. Incidentally I also use the ping i irons. Enjoying the videos keep up the great work 👍
I bought a set of eye 2s a year ago and have really started to love them. So much so that I just bought a copper set that I'm going to have restored and regripped.❤
I love your respect and love for OMP, it's very endearing and proves your an ordinary guy and 1 of us. Get yourselves over here and us Irish golfmates will look after ye.👍
I played Top Flite ( late '60's model ) irons from high school 'til forever (12 or 13 years) with lead tape all over them, shafts lengthened, grips oversized, you get the picture.....until I won a set of pings and tried to play them for 6 months or so. I found them to be inconsistent in shot length, occasionally hitting a hot shot with the 5,6,7,8 that would take off unexpectedly. On the practice range one day, the asst pro had a new set of Armour 845's and I hit a few, immediately falling in love with them. I ordered a set and played with them until I bought a new set of cobra's a few years ago. I am 69 now so that will tell you how much I thought of them.
Liam's you are what this world needs more of. I am Rick from Brooklyn new York you should have. Your heart checked I'm sure its bigger in size. I see it it's pure what you do to omp am others your goodness it just shows you can't hide it. I wish I lived close would love to shoot a round with you and omp. Keep up the good work. I am a golf mate from the USA
I nearly bought a 2nd hand set of copper Eye 2+ irons! I went off to think about it, came back & they’d gone, bought brand new i3 blades instead! I still play an Eye 2+ one iron now & again! Brilliant club!👍🏼👍🏼
I personally think the Pings are Sexier looking than ANY new club out today, and much better looking than those Armours you think look so nice. Just look at the sexy lines on the Ping, plus you can get them in BECU, try that today !
I have in my closet the Ping Eye 2's, the Ping Zing's, Ping IST's, Ping Eye 3 oversize, and the Tommy Armour 845 S titanium. I am now using my Callaway Hawkeys. I used to love my Tommy Armour's and because of this video, I think I may dig them out of the closet, put on some new grips and use them when golf season starts back up in the spring here in the state of MIchigan, USA.
I have both. I prefer the look of the 845's over the eye2 as well. Though the pings may be a touch more forgiving. I get better flight out of the 845...more consistent. Plus the eye2 irons are extremely close in distance (loft) for the 3 through 5...the 845 have more separation. Weekend players will find that easier to deal with than adjusting swing speed to correct distance. Great video sir.
Awesome video Golfmate. I'm from the US. And just recently started playing golf this year, and I use the Ping eye 2 red dots. Very good for me but it's the only irons I've used so far
Fairly new Golfmate here and I am catching up on some of your past videos. I still play the Tommy Armour 845 Oversize irons that my parents bought me when I made the high school golf team around 1998. Was just asking your opinion on if I should replace them on a newer video before I saw this one. Maybe I will just keep on going with them. I do love them. They look great behind the ball for sure.
@adibadam2592 They are forgiving enough I would say. Not quite as good as newer irons but I don't think there would be a hugely noticeable difference really. The difference in a mishit with the 845s would probably be within a few feet of a mishit with newer irons.
Liam, you should do reviews of cheap Golf Gear. I paid €250 for a sleeveless jacket. I know I am mad. Video Idea - Could you get good golf shoes and rain gear for under £100?. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to seeing you and OMP in Newlands. My course is Millicent, just up the road from Newlands.
I purchased a set of Ping Eyes 2s today 1-PW as decoration for my office. I knew I had to hit them first. I hadn't played them since 91 borrowed. So took them to the range. Hit them really well. Obviously weaker lies then current Mizunos. They may see a course before they hit the wall of my office.
Hello from Pennsylvania golf mate!! I never played the 845s but I have 2 sets of the eye2 (one is the copper beryllium) and love breaking them out for a round or two. I’m hoping the Titliest are the DCIs. They were another iconic set. Looking forward to the next video.
Liam, looking at your photos it appears you are playing the Armour 845 Oversized head. Did not see those in the USA. They were called 855 here. The classic 845 Silver Scott Model was one of the best cast irons ever made. They had a tumbled finish and were very long hitting for the era. Davis Love , Bruce Litszte , Lee Jantzen and many more pros used them and were not sponsored. They were expensive clubs. Very attractive and developed a nice patina after time. Beryllium Copper headed models are quite rare. No added advantage but lighter swing weight. Tip 🤔 You could reshaft them to your shaft and grip of choice. You would have new set of irons you could play , that probably compares to most anything modern. The thin sole and nice blade length of 845 Silver Scot are as good as most being produced today. Especially for a good player with lower handicap like you play off. 845 Silver Scot with the matte tumbled finish- sent a link with photos and original advertisement, also a photo of blue graphite shaft set . Close to $1000US when sold . Quite attractive. The original True Temper Dynamic, Dynalite or Even cheaper shaft were the concern but worked. Ping Eye 2 original you are playing are longest production iron ( same model ) sold. They probably wouldn’t have changed them if not for the square groove controversy. Ping Zing and Zing 2 models were disappointing models but it did start the era of chunky Callaway Bertha irons. Ping shafts were with few options. Karsten believed in Stiff shafted, lighter weighted Irons for accuracy Called Zz lite( blue on band) Jz was heavier( maroon on band) . Microtaper was cheapest and lightest . Often found in their Beryllium Copper. Per looks , you should try the Eye 2+ model with scalloped soles and conforming grooves, better short iron shape with slightly stronger lofts Ping Eye 2 short and mid irons set up really square to most shots and lies so they were very forgiving and popular. Mark Calcavecchia won the Open Championship with them. Nick Price and Lee Westwood also had in bag for long periods of time. Ping Eye 2Wedges , also the number one and two irons are still in play and useful. Lead tape often installed in back Cavity to bring swing weights up and better feel. Hope this helps Chris 🍀
Can't guarantee being 100 % correct but I'm sure all EYE 2 Irons were none confirming because of the groove shape and dimensions. The first option was to have them reground by Karsten which had a + stamped on them. The second was to have them replaced with EYE 2+ at a reduced trade in price. Looking at the video you have probably got the original non conforming irons Liam.
Rennie Mintern Nice information. Thank you for sharing. Guys I play with , if they were even concerned about the grooves could send them back. Tom Watson and his claim that playing with these clubs was like “cheating” after a shot from the rough witnessed during the Skins Game , he started all this nonsense. It must be noted that soon after both Cleveland and Ram, Ben Hogan all made Square Groove Wedges... As you stated with adjustment options . Ping would put a pin hole in Cavity to identify that they had been adjusted. Ping is excellent company to deal with. Family run and best customer service. Your irons often came back retumbled and looked new. It was $16 plus shipping if I recall. They have their customer data from serial number in a modern database if you lose one or want to get adjustments or Cavity color fill and adjustments. Great company. Can you imagine in today’s world of marketing and seasonal turnover of clubs to have one set of irons sold ten years straight. Only thing changes might be shafts or Grip options with this set of clubs for a ten year run.
Sold my full set of Ping Zing 2's the other week. First (2nd hand) set of clubs I owned. Loved them but got fitted for Callaway Rogues (which are awesome). Love the channel mate, keep up the good work, much appreciated 👍
Liam, Learned how to play in the mid 90's on an old set of Dunlop Fuzzy Zoeller Tour irons. Upgraded to a set of Ping Eye 2 Black Dot irons in early 80's. Couldn't hit the Pings to save my life. Went back to the Dunlop's for a few years before I bought a set of Callaway irons. Love the Callaway's.
I remembered I had bought the eye 2s irons second hand for £ 175 and loved them. Got down to single figure handicap, they were so forgiving. Had them for 8years, worn out 2 Sets of grips. When eventually sold them the grips were gone but I still sold them for profit for £225 to local golf shop. Canny Scot making a profit nae a bad thing😄. Nj
Liam, play with the clubs that look and feel the best. You may need your clubs bent more upright. Ask Dave the Pro. Put some tape on the bottom of your clubs and hit off a flat piece of plywood and then look at the sole of the club and see if you have a mark near the toe. If you do you need to have your irons bent more upright. Just a thought you probably know this. We love the videos.
I had the Tommy Armour 855S loved them. But the set I loved the most in the 90's were the Lynx Parralax irons. Was a huge fan of Fred Boom Boom Couples. He was their brand ambassador at that time as well! Would love to try them again today!!
Another great video mate! Loved the comparison between the Ping's and a 2 o'clocker 😂 Live stream was great last night and just a thought but there were plenty of golf mates on there saying get the orders and money in first for the bag tags to takeaway the need for you to lay out £4K 👍
Hi Liam - I had a gross 77 net 67 on Sunday with the voice of legend OMP guiding me in my head. It was a great day and another 0.2 off my handicap heading down towards 9. Great video - I think golf is all about 'feel' and the Armour's should win in it on that basis. Look forward to part 2. PS; the joke about getting a date was hilarious - not heard that one for a while!!!!!!!
The off center hits with the Pings and forgiveness was awesome. I don't think my Callaway's (X18 R) would be as forgiving. My friend has those Ping eye 2's and has played with them for years. Think I may try one of his clubs the next time we play. 😂 Great video sir.
I have sets of both the 845's (pat pend) and Eye2+. The Armours are well balanced and easy to hit, as are the Eye2's. However, the Pings stop on on the greens and the TA's just seem to hit and run. Plus, they're just so small. My 716 CB's or MP-5's are much better I'd say.
Ping eye for me. bought a set of irons off ebay for £60 when I took up golf again. Loved the look of them. Now have a fitted set of ping clubs but not playing any better with them. I should have kept the ping eye's
Liam by far the best clubs are the Callaway VFT graphite Reg. shaft ,expensive but great , like them that much I bought 2 sets and still using my first set both bought in 1998 . One set still in wrappers !! They are Magic ! Would use anything else . Best , Barry
Liam I have Ping Eye2+ since the early 90s and two years ago I bought Karstens 3a from the 1980s just for kicks, I think all of Pings cast clubs were fabulous and I think the eye 2 woods can’t be beat I still use those and I’m not changing. The ZZ lite shaft is really awesome. Just sayin
what a cracking group of golf mates paying for omp, I'm very new to ur channel of as about a week or so ago, and have to say I'm loving the content and how you do ur vids, real golfers well don
Absolutely can't get enough of this one man hitting and running to zoom in stuff 😂
It's brilliant stuff. This channel is great for all golfers regardless of experience. Liam is daft AF but it makes golf more appealing to everyone
Yes. Agree. Much more drama doing this on his own. 😅😅
Loved it; the Benny Hill part as well 😂
Agreed lol.
instaBlaster
Considering the Pings were made in the 1980’s and Tim Herron won a PGA Tour event with them in 2006, I’d say they win hands down.
Absolutely! I have a set of Eye 2 BeCu and they're still as good as anything out there and a blast to play. Someone should set Liam up with the matching laminate woods. He'd be shocked at how good they play too!
I have both, but the Ping Eye 2's are in a class by itself.
Plus, the Rommy Armours were basically just a cleaner looking copy of the Pings
Also, given that club companies change irons every year, Ping went with the Eye2 for 15 years. That’s really something.
One of the best communities on you tube hands down !

I play the 845 oversize Irons 3 - pw with sand wedge and 60 degree. I Love that set.. Best irons I've ever played. I'd take them over the ping eye 2 all day.
Liam, you just a good dude with a good heart takes a grown man to show his feelings......Fellow Golfmate across the big pond...

I have to go with the Mizuno MP14s. Feel, and surprisingly forgiving. Played by many pros.
Another class video. Keep up the great work Liam
Could be the large offset on the pings that's putting you off. Lumpy herron played eye 2 for about 25 yrs on the PGA tour. I'm voting pings. Keep up the great work Liam, you truly are the peoples golfer, cheers.
Ping Eye 2 Copper Beryllium... the ones you want.
@Flashy Paws Mine are, what, 30+ years old and you'd have to use a gun to get them from me. I made mention the other day I still have the Wilson Staff I played when I was a kid. I'll neve let them go either.
Just got a set in yesterday, and took them out this morning. Like them. Once I get the right grips (for me) on there, I think I'm going to really enjoy these things!!
yep had a set of the copper ones too - great clubs
I just bought them today. very happy man .3iron-sw with matching numbers and the ZZ lite shaft. I used to have them back in the days. Sold them but regretted it big time. Now a bit to old for my blades with riffle 6.0 shaft so Ping let's go!!!!
I have a set, it like pulling up beside a new Ferrari in an E type.
Good vlog Liam. I really enjoy these retro reviews. It makes you very different to other channels that all review the same products.
Thanks
Espec when ur playing
with ppl who take golf scores too seriously.
Ugly birds are usually more forgiving the fit ones as well! 😂 😂 😂
Most genuine person on youtube! Top man!
Greatest club of all time are PING EYE 2’s, iconic and still awesome today, they changed the game!!!!
Happy Christmas to All!
great video as usual would bring a tear to a glass eye in a happy and touching way
Played Tommy armour 845s for at least 10 years.
Preferred the Pings back in the day. Maybe they should still be in the bag? Great video Liam. Last night was a wonderful thing. 👍
If you ever get towards Germany, please contact me. Beer and golf are on me.
You're a class act and a proper gentleman. Well done.
7:10-7:14 You grounded your club in the bunker! Sand prints don't lie! Haha!
Haha
On the strength of this video I chanced upon a set of Tommy Armour 855 Silver Scots. £35 off Gumtree, I've re-gripped them and I kid you not , having played with them twice they are fantastic.
I'm a 17h/c and played level 4s for ten holes last night, and a little bit poorer tonight.
I'm now in a dilemma as they've played better than my modern Rkt Bladez! Keep up the good work
I was watching your live stream while driving to the golf course . OMP is lucky to have you as a friend
Wanted to say Hi to all the golf mates
Great Vlog again...And a great night last night on the live stream...
great video.
First time I have ever heard of a ten to two golf club 🤣🤣🤣. Love what you are doing and can’t wait to see OMP back where it all started for him.
Waz working last nite Liam pal watched the vlog today warms your heart ♥. Love the vlog.
Gotta love this channel and owned the Tommy's, wish I still had them.
Awesome video Golfmate. I'm from the US. And just recently started playing golf this year, and I use the Ping eye 2 red dots. Very good for me but it's the only irons I've used so far
Brilliant video Liam, your graciousness towards OMP was wonderful.
good stuff again mate, nearly broke 90 for the second week today with 91- happy days
Same here just can't seem to break that 90 barrier at the moment last 10 rounds have all been below 93 🙄
Are they forgiving for first timer
@adibadam2592 They are forgiving enough I would say. Not quite as good as newer irons but I don't think there would be a hugely noticeable difference really. The difference in a mishit with the 845s would probably be within a few feet of a mishit with newer irons.
I own both. I appreciate the forgiveness of the eye 2 but once my swing shakes off the rust I tend to hit the 845s better.
You have to go with the club's that you are comfortable with. The Tommy Armors.
It's great to be a #golfmate, keep up the great work Liam.
I still play with Ping Eye 2s that I bought new! That pretty much answers it for me.
Tip 🤔
You could reshaft them to your shaft and grip of choice.
Per looks , you should try the Eye 2+ model with scalloped soles and conforming grooves, better short iron shape with slightly stronger lofts
Ping Eye 2 short and mid irons set up really square to most shots and lies so they were very forgiving and popular.
Hope this helps
Chris 🍀
Can't guarantee being 100 % correct but I'm sure all EYE 2 Irons were none confirming because of the groove shape and dimensions.
The first option was to have them reground by Karsten which had a + stamped on them.
The second was to have them replaced with EYE 2+ at a reduced trade in price.
Looking at the video you have probably got the original non conforming irons Liam.
Rennie Mintern
Nice information.
I live in Ohio and have 2 sets of tommy armour clubs 855s silver Scots and a set of 845s oversized
Sold my full set of Ping Zing 2's the other week. First (2nd hand) set of clubs I owned. Loved them but got fitted for Callaway Rogues (which are awesome).
Love the channel mate, keep up the good work, much appreciated 👍
Liam you make my cloudy days feel like sunshine, your a proper bloke👍🏻🏌🏻♂️
i had those exact same ping eye 2 irons for years and just loved them. full set 2 to sand wedge.
Liam,
Learned how to play in the mid 90's on an old set of Dunlop Fuzzy Zoeller Tour irons. Upgraded to a set of Ping Eye 2 Black Dot irons in early 80's. Couldn't hit the Pings to save my life. Went back to the Dunlop's for a few years before I bought a set of Callaway irons. Love the Callaway's.
@kevin phillips Sorry Kevin, I meant early 2000
I subbed, just because of you throwing the clubs down and running to get to the camera. Love it 😂
Hi Liam - I had a gross 77 net 67 on Sunday with the voice of legend OMP guiding me in my head.
You ground your club on that second bunker shot 😂🤣👍
Love these Liam, keep em coming
Ping eye for me. bought a set of irons off ebay for £60 when I took up golf again. Loved the look of them. Now have a fitted set of ping clubs but not playing any better with them. I should have kept the ping eye's
Honma LB 606, they are awesome, the feel and pureness of strike are better than the new set of miura clubs I have.
Liam by far the best clubs are the Callaway VFT graphite Reg. shaft ,expensive but great , like them that much I bought 2 sets and still using my first set both bought in 1998 . One set still in wrappers !!
They are Magic ! Would use anything else .
Best ,
Barry
Hi Liam. Great video intro! Very creative! 🤗😎
I love the look of those old Ping irons, classics 👍
Liam I have Ping Eye2+ since the early 90s and two years ago I bought Karstens 3a from the 1980s just for kicks, I think all of Pings cast clubs were fabulous and I think the eye 2 woods can’t be beat I still use those and I’m not changing. The ZZ lite shaft is really awesome. Just sayin
what a cracking group of golf mates paying for omp, I'm very new to ur channel of as about a week or so ago, and have to say I'm loving the content and how you do ur vids, real golfers well don
