okay this is late, but EVERYONE in the comments section is wrong. firstly wodehouse didn't even have a fake foreigner in his book at all. that's all the bbc's work. the only "foreigners" he ever wrote about were americans.

Wow! My cousin and his wife speak fluent Portuguese (she's from Sao Paulo Brazil) It is a beautiful language and nothing like the gibberish that this actress spews *sigh* disappointed somewhat. I love Timothy Spall tho he's always a fun watch.

nothing wrong with saying tool, old bean. it's a perfectly effective projectile, and i shall fling it at leisure. the joke is not simply that portugese is supposed to sound like gibberish, but that to the idiots in the show it does. it's a joke at the expense of the two male characters, not the portugese character. hence 'tool'.
Glad mr Woodhouse is not able to go through this silliness. This is an insult to his work.

I'm Portuguese and she didn't speak Portuguese and her name was not Portuguese either. I find that disappointing and slightly offensive, to be honest. Writers please do your research carefully and take care with what you write.
It's difficult to explain without giving away the plotline, but just watch the whole episode and you'll understand why.
