I love these segments, Louis! I'm with you that it's unbelievable that Michael Stuhlbarg has never been nominated. One of our great character actors. I have watched Call Me By Your Name like 10 times and that father-son scene and the ending by the fireplace always get me. Actors have been nominated for less.
For recent ones, Steven Yeun in Burning. I can understand why an understated villain performance in a foreign-language thriller wouldn't be nominated, but man does that performance get under your skin. My favorite non-nominated supporting actor turn of the 2010s.
YES, Okada Masaki did such an amazing job in Drive My Car!! His character gave me such intense goosebumps, I was so sad when he wasn't even in the conversation for the Best Supporting Actor Race
It's strange that none of the main three actors got in, considering they all do such a good job. Dreyfuss was the only one to get a major nomination, doing so at BAFTA, but other than that there was no recognition, not even from critics groups, so I guess there wasn't much of a buzz around the actual performances. Some, especially older voters in the Academy, may have passed it off as being reliant on the shark and action scenes, and looked down on the acting.
the fact that we still say the 'im sOORRRRy my prada's at the cleaners' monologue form the social network speaks volumes about what was the breakout performance of the movie
Some other very deserving Best Supporting Actors never even nominated are Henry Gibson for Nashville, Roddy McDowall for Fright Night, Eric Stoltz for Mask, Jeff Goldblum for The Big Chill, Dudley Moore for Foul Play, Peter Falk for The In Laws, Albert Brooks for Drive, Jerry Lewis for The King of Comedy and Charles Grodin for Midnight Run.
Ohhh, Louis can get a piece for free with that new haircut! Now, I charge extra for lights on. We love you guys, and you are putting in some serious work lately (as before)! It really shows, and we appreciate it! Keep it up💜
The Academy’s treatment of Singin’ in the Rain as a whole is shameful, but Donald O’Connor’s lack of a Supporting Actor nomination is especially egregious. I also think Bill Irwin is pretty devastating as the dad in Rachel Getting Married. Donald Sutherland and Alfred Molina also have a plethora of roles they should’ve been nominated for.
If i had to choose the worst snubs (as in not even nominated) in this category: *Lew Ayres in Holiday *Tim Holt in Treasure of Sierra Madre *Lee J. Cobb, 12 angry men *Joe E. Brown in Some like it hot *John Cazale in literally anything he made, but more specifically Godfather 2 *Danny Glover in The color purple *Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet *John Goodman in Barton Fink
* John Goodman, Barton Fink * Charles Melton, May December * Song Kang Ho, Parasite * Sergi Lopez, Pan’s Labyrinth * Robert Shaw, Jaws * Daniel Craig, Infamous * Harvey Keitel, The Piano TOP 3 INJUSTICES ARE Robert Shaw, Song Kang Ho and John Goodman.
27:47 _"Any corrections you nerds wanna roast me for in the comments?"_ Why, yes, there is! @11:56, Gene Wilder was nominated for _The Producers_ in 1968, not '67. _The Producers_ was released in Pittsburgh in late 1967, but didn't get its wide release until '68. So, it competed at the Oscars with the '68 movies. But also, Alan Arkin was snubbed for a supporting actor nomination for _Wait Until Dark._ And Burt Lancaster for _Sweet Smell of Success._ And Anthony Perkins for _Psycho._
I love me some Louis Virtel insight on anything Hollywood. So many great performances highlighted here, but I REALLY agree with Andrew Garfield in "The Social Network." His wounded pride in that movie is something to behold. Plus, his heartbreakingly painful scream of anguish and betrayal and exasperation and self-pity in "Never Let Me Go"...I could watch that anytime. Great book too.
My grandfather loved Clifton Webb's performance in Laura. So many deliciously delivered lines "Let me put it this way... I should be sincerely sorry to see my neighbor's children devoured by wolves" was one of our favorites. I read this one at grandpa's funeral: "Love is eternal. It has been the strongest motivation for human actions throughout history. Love is stronger than life. It reaches beyond the dark shadow of death." Okay and one more favorite quote from the movie that I say ALL THE TIME is by Vincent Price "I don't know a lot about anything, but I know a little about practically everything."
Louis you should get a Letterboxd account, I'd love to read your reviews of movies or for you to make some of these videos into lists that people can read your opinions on and watch more of your favourites
Nitpicks: Gene Wilder was nominated in 1969 for Best Supporting Actor of 1968, not 1967. And Donald Crisp was not an Oscar nominated dad for National Velvet. He was an Oscar winning dad for How Green Was My Valley.
You can’t go comparing anybody’s acting ability to Johnny Flynn. It’s like comparing somebody’s intelligence to a dead chihuahua. More importantly, why do people keep giving Johnny Flynn work? I saw that he was in a play with Kit Harrington once and genuinely worried the world might end in a wooden acting singularity
The obsessive hate of liberal Americans with Three Billboards is pathetic for us Europeans, the movie is a masterpiece, and NO ONE came even close to what Sam Rockwell did, thankfully, the acting branch did their job and awarded the best one. Christopher Plummer took Michael Stuhlbarg´s place and I understand why actors wanted to honor him, so there is nothing you can do. And no, Renner deserved the nomination over Garfield that does nothing complicated on Social Network, Armie Hammer as the twins were more compelling, but we gotta pretend he does not exist now. And Dive My Car is such a overrated movie, a good example of what happens when you turn a short story into 3 hour movie, bur I do agree that Masaki Okada was stellar, however, he could have been nominated instead of J. K. Simmons.
Expect a bunch of angry David Suchet fans turning up here to tell you who the best Poirot is. By the way, I agree with you on Ustinov one hundred percent.
I swear to god our brains were merged at birth and separated, which is weird because I am black, 10yrs older, and excruciatingly cis and boring! Not one of these selections gives me pause! Bravo!👏🏾 ❤
People keep trying to make Call Me By Your Name sound like something more than it actually was: a big budget Lifetime movie with a director and actors (miss cast in Hammer's case) who were to afraid to actually show gay intimacy, romance, or sex. The bigger snub that year was that Gods Own Country, a much braver, and better film dealing with similar subject matter was ignored by critics, and most of the LGBTQ+ community.
Trophy strife, the show for all of us who don’t want to annoy our friends with our obsession with award show injustices 😂
This is a safe space for us!! Hahaha

"Robert Wagner outed him but this might not have been the worst thing Robert Wagner ever did" THE SHADE OF IT ALL!!!
YES, Okada Masaki did such an amazing job in Drive My Car!! His character gave me such intense goosebumps, I was so sad when he wasn't even in the conversation for the Best Supporting Actor Race
How Shaw wasn’t nominated for Jaws is bewildering. He steals every scene he’s in.
It's strange that none of the main three actors got in, considering they all do such a good job. I have just discovered you and I’m now OBSESSED!!! Funny, insightful, sassy. Everything I hold dear. Bless you and everything you stand for 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Love Louis Virtel and how fun he tells his stories
Quint/Robert Shaw from Jaws was the first person I thought of when I saw this title
I think about that Michael Stuhlbarg scene all the time!
the fact that we still say the 'im sOORRRRy my prada's at the cleaners' monologue form the social network speaks volumes about what was the breakout performance of the movie
I most agree with Michael Stuhlbarg. He ABSOLUTELY should have been. My far the most gripping and effective scene of the year.
“Those black eyes… like a dolls eyes…” One of my favorite line readings ever!
We need another lead actress snub video!!! ❤
Ralph Fiennes in Schindler’s List.
He was nominated though he didnt win. This video is about nomination snubs, idiot.
He was nominated, though he didn't win. This video is about nomination snubs, you dumbo.
i swear, if nathan lane from the birdcage isn’t mentioned…
Love this series.
Still annoyed about Mike Faist's snub for West Side Story.

Good choices, Lee J, deserve winner, Fonda is snubber lead actor.
21:59 "...and I have to be honest with you, it might not have been the worst thing Robert Wagner ever did." omg
god i love keep it!!! and trophy strife more pls pls pls
loved brandon d. wilde....and Yes on michael stuhlbarg.....yes peter u is best ever hercule p.
Had a double-take thinking Louis said Lucas Hedges "was in Brokeback Mountain with my face," which is basically accurate
Thank you, Louis - you really shine with Trophy Strife
Mark Rylance was robbed for Bones and All
Peter Ustinov is brilliant, and his (first?) autobiography Dear Me is a pleasure to read, and you know that he wrote every single word himself.
* John Goodman, Barton Fink
* Charles Melton, May December
* Song Kang Ho, Parasite
* Sergi Lopez, Pan’s Labyrinth
* Robert Shaw, Jaws
* Daniel Craig, Infamous
* Harvey Keitel, The Piano
TOP 3 INJUSTICES ARE Robert Shaw, Song Kang Ho and John Goodman.

I literally thought of Andrew Garfield in Social Network a few days ago, he deserved gold as soon as he broke that computer
I hope maybe you can do a video where you select a random year and tell us the five or ten must see films to watch.
Timothée Chalamet for Beautiful Boy… Anyone agree?!?! He should’ve been nominated over Sam Rockwell in Vice
My grandfather loved Clifton Webb's performance in Laura. So many deliciously delivered lines "Let me put it this way... THIS!!!! ☝️☝️☝️
I could listen to a 4-Hour podcast of this
legendary snub: the four from OZ; Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley and Bert Lahr.
Two words: John cazale
How that man never won astounds me
Always thought Anthony Hopkins should have been submitted for BSA for Proof and won.
If you want to learn about Gilda Radner, don't watch Saturday Night, just watch the documentary Love, Gilda.
Nitpicks: Gene Wilder was nominated in 1969 for Best Supporting Actor of 1968, not 1967. And Donald Crisp was not an Oscar nominated dad for National Velvet. He was an Oscar winning dad for How Green Was My Valley.
I know this is a leading role but Andrew Garfield should’ve won for tick tick boom
Absolutely 💯
Henry Gibson in Nashville. Know you 're a fan of this movie so 'nuff said.
Gene Wilder should have won for Young Frankenstein if you do a Best Actor video.
Al pacino Goodfather2 Deserve winner
@@murilocardoso985 He also did not win, it went to Art Carney
I need Lucas Hedges back on the screen ASAP!
i need him in my lap😍

More importantly, why do people keep giving Johnny Flynn work? I saw that he was in a play with Kit Harrington once and genuinely worried the world might end in a wooden acting singularity
Shaw also reminds me of Walken or Cage with his odd choices that Work.
And Dennis Hopper for BLUE VELVET!
Call Me by Your Name, best scene. Too short for supporting nod, some say.
I say Judd Hirsch, Dench, etc. They got it for 5 minutes. Rude!!!
How dare you NOT recommend Heaven Can Wait!? It is a better romcom than Moonstruck! 🤪😜
Jack Lemmon, Glengarry Glen Ross
The obsessive hate of liberal Americans with Three Billboards is pathetic for us Europeans, the movie is a masterpiece, and NO ONE came even close to what Sam Rockwell did, thankfully, the acting branch did their job and awarded the best one. Don Cheadle, Devil In a Blue Dress. Stole the whole film. It’s a perfect BSA role and he wasn’t even nominated.
Bravo!👏🏾 ❤
Purple Noon!!!
Brandon de Wilde (pronounced "de-WIL-duh") (Dutch name)
Hit subscribe to your channel the second you said Hedges!

*Drive My Car won Best International Feature Film. The category was changed from Best Foreign Film in 2019.
So what? Everyone still calls it Best Foreign Film. I refuse to say Best International Feature Film.
🤭
✌️💙🎉
I don't think foriegn films should be nominated outside of the foriegn category.
