Any MBBS doctor who has experience of conducting at least 25 cases of MTP under direct guidance of Obstetricians in a government setup, can perform MTP upto 12weeks of gestation. MTP upto 20 weeks gestation was legal according to MTP act 1971.

For this law I would like to add that although it is a great effort by the government but the entire focus of the law is on the birth of the child. But reality is lot more than that. There are no provisions for the case when the parents or mother can not provide a stable life for a child, should she than not have the right to abort the child?
I believe allowing Ayurvedic BAMS doctors, also for this purpose will be a boon. Provided proper training and implementation are provided to them. Some states like West Bengal, maharashtra etc BAMS Doctor performs quite better with their equivalents.
