    • @lsmart
      @lsmart Год назад +2

      Here he admits he was wrong, but mostly blames it (justifiably) on the fact that Ukraine was not given the tools they needed, as he indeed specified all along n every interview he gave. However, his humility is truly evident in other interviews, where he states exactly how he was wrong in overestimating Russia's power and abilities at the beginning of the war. I also love how he assesses the situations clearly and logically, and then using that to make predictions with utter confidence -- rather than changing his mind and hedging his bet after every bit of bad news, like most journalists and experts.

He does this in pretty much every interview I've seen. Other US generals are good at this too, it must be part of the training.

It's one of the more light-hearted parts of the curriculum, but its purpose is deadly serious. Of course, by the time an officer pins stars on his or her collars, they've had many more hours of this type of training, and it becomes second nature.

Manifestly, her background knowledge of the issues, both strategically and tactically, has armed her with the "chops" to pose sharp questions of her interviewees--and to follow-up on their answers very strongly. The result: great added-value for her audiences on what's actually happening both militarily and politically in the current conflict. As the war rages, I've specifically followed John Pienaar's excellent interviews on Times Radio and now I've added those of Kate Jerbeau.

He is correct in that the hesitation of the USA to send long range missiles to Ukraine has resulted in needless death and destruction of Ukraine, has contributed to food shortages in the middle east and has prolonged the counter offensive while giving Russian forces the opportunity to mine and trench hundreds of miles of the frontline. His conclusions are fully supported by the findings of Chatham House which has enumerated the fallacies that some western partners have held. Good job. Slava Ukraine!

Other people worth following are Anders Puck and Perun, though I admit they add some "humour" to this that may not be in everyone's taste considering the gravity. Always good to get your take, General. I have felt form the beginning, when Ukraine refused to fall, that this victory was possible. As it wore on, it became very clear to me that the rail yards in Rostov on Donn and Belgorod as well as fuel depots and refineries need to be taken out as military targets. The close airfields they were flying their Tupolev rocket launchers from have been vacated- finding and destroying those would be my next target. But Ukraine needs to be able to see and shoot back at those bombers when they approach the borders to launch; so a "tool" that will work as anti air a distance needs on that list. Next time the Kerch Bridge is attacked, the rail bridge needs to be put in the water, at least two or three spans of it. So all of that and the Ukrainian Army can just let them starve or give up. It was never possible for Ukraine to even regain their own territory without putting the hurt on assets the Russians are using from their own territory to do them. Those assets need taking out. Russia as a military power might need to be backed off of their western border say 500 miles and fearful of crossing into it.
    But , General, I too wish to see a free and democratic Ukraine emerge; but if their are no Ukrainians left to live there, we all have failed, badly.

    The West is disappointed with Ukraines offensive, because of unrealistic expectations (this is not a Hollywood movie) and is a consequence of the US tieing Ukranian hands (not supplying appropriate weapons).
    However, that aside, to all those who think Ukraines offensive is failing, consider this....
    In 8 weeks, Ukraine has liberated 293sq miles of Russian temporarily occupied lands, through battle zones with well prepared defences.
    In comparison to Russia, supported by the entire might of the 2nd biggest military in the world taking 10 months, yes 10 months, to capture the half that area in the first place.
    Let's not forget that Russias mighty Black Sea fleet has to stay in the far east of the Black Sea, scared to come within 300km of Ukraines coast. Forced out of Russias regional navy stronghold Savastapol and the Azov Sea by Ukraines actions. All that by a country that doesn't even have a navy!
    Let's no forget that Ukraines airspace is a "no fly zone" for Russias airforce, who can't come within 15km of Ukraines borders or cities for fear of being shot down and are relying on unmanned drones to do their work with decreasing success.
    Let's not forget that Russia has evacuated hundreds of thousands of Russians, both civilians and senior officers, from Crimea scared of Ukraines capabilities and a Storm Shadow visit or two, to Crimea and the Kerch Bridge.
    Now tell me again you pro-Russians and trolls, that Ukraines offensive hasn't been successful so far? 🤔
