    I love Costco but I’ve never bought plants there. This was extremely helpful. This year I’m just excited to be able to actually garden again! I had hip replacement surgery this fall (left) and then in February (right) and it has been life-changing! I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday cutting things back and splitting and transplanting and just doing all the spring things that have been neglected for the past seven years. It’s been glorious! Your channel is wonderful. I watched the first few videos you did several months ago but then I couldn’t garden, so I stopped. But now! Now I’m excited again because I can play in the dirt! I’ll be watching your library and learning all you share.🌸

    I’ve bought many plants, bulbs, & bare roots from Costco & love their pricing & quality. I’ve also bought directly from Longfield Gardens, Dutch bulbs, Color Blends & Eden Brothers. All are great quality. A lot of the time, the errors were on my part bc I either waited too long to plant them or plant them in the wrong location.

    This is my first time seeing your video, I love it! Your nails are fine. 😊 my 2020 project was learning to do hard gel nails on myself, my hairdresser let me use her license to get professional less toxic products. They hold up really well, I sometimes put a fresh top coat from soil abrasion.

      Thank you!! I should get the gel manicure. I did them for a while 2 years ago but my nails actually hurt after trying to get the gel off. I hear there is an organic one now. Have you tried that? I would love to know your thoughts!

    • @nanasloves
      @nanasloves 2 месяца назад

      @@uptosomething6271 I use Light Elegance, I don’t seem to react but that would be wonderful if there was an organic hard gel! As far as painful nails when it’s taken off, Hard gel has to be filed/sanded off. If you don’t know what your doing (and I don’t) you take of layers of nail. Instead of using a nail drill, I’ve started using nail files and I’m doing better but my nails still hurt when I take off the product. The best way to transition to have natural nails is to just do overlays, a thin ish layer of gel to protect the nails while that damaged part grows out. I do like having hard gels when I’m gardening though. In the end… I don’t know if it’s worth the time and money I’ve put into it. Natural nails are beautiful.

    I bought a bunch of different shade plants from costco last year (bare root, the same as you did here). They were mostly all for me, as i had bought a, new home in 2021 and have been building up my garden. I have a shady yard. The one thing i noticed was that for some plants (definitely not all), there could wild variation in sizes of the plant. For one of my columbine and one bleeding heart, they were so small i wasn't sure if they were actually considered a plant 😂. Both of those teensy tiny ones died. But, i still got several more plants for a much cheaper price than i would've paid at my local nursery, so i decided that I'm ok with it.
    There were also several plants that i got more than i needed. It's super fun for me to give those to friends and family that enjoy gardening, so i considered that to be a fun part of buying bare root from costco 😊

      That is great. Thank you of sharing. I also found a variation in sizes, but none of mine were too small. I like experimenting with plants I may not have bought but try them because it is worth it for the price. Thanks so much for watching.

    I never buy plants at Costco anymore. I bought geraniums that did not bloom more than one bloom, the inpatients died out right away and the only thing I had good luck with was a potted plant with numerous flowers in it. I don't take a chance anymore.

    OMG!!! When those Thujas (Arbovitaes) come in at Costco, I load up the truck! It is CRAZY how much they're giving them away for. When I first saw them I lost my mind because I think it costs 3 - 4 times as much when buying them anywhere else and they were only like 2-3 feet. I literally started hyperventilating when I saw them there...LOL!
    When I first bought them I only bought 3 to see how they did. They are thriving beautifully, so I went back to buy 10 more this season and they're all over 5 feet. They are already thriving and established and it's only been like 2 weeks or so since I planted them.
    I raid their plant section and keep checking back in the spring because their return policy is insane, but most of what I've planted from there has thrived. I still have their blueberries, grapes, a couple different varieties of raspberries that are still thriving every year.
    Thank you for letting me know I'm on the the right track. I appreciate the video. It's growing season! YaY!

    Actually peonies will grow in zone 1b/2a in N. Alberta Canada (Grande Prairie). The Cyril Clarke collection was donated to the Univ. of Alberta where the plants were brought south 250 miles to zone 3 in Edmonton where they have lived for 70 years and some of the original plants in Grande Prairie are still going strong for close to 100 years.

I don't know if these varieties are still on the market The University of Alberta has the remains of Cyril's collection at it's Devonian Gardens.

    15+ years ago I had horrible experiences with my bulb and water garden purchases from Costco. I bought a bag of 50 spider alliums. It said they would grow 6" tall so I put them in the front of the border. They grew 30" and to make matters worse, not only were they invasive but very difficult to eradicate because the bulbs multiplied like rabbits underground.
    Second issue was with a water garden kit I bought. One of the plants was Nutsedge which is an invasive horrible weed. It migrated to my daylily patch and I had no idea that it was actually a new sprout from the water garden....I thought they were new daylily sprouts. I am still fighting nutsedge in my 1 garden even after changing out the soil.
    I never bought anymore bulbs from Costco until this year. I got sucked in with the Elephant Ears and Cannas but decided to supplement my large pots rather than completely redo this year. I settled on adding a perimeter of caladiums and also found pink hanging begonia tubers (Splendide Alifra). The only info coming up for these is from the UK so not sure what to expect. Both purchases were 10 for $13.99 here in Chicago. (Fyi...Saw one Costco had them marked down to $7.99!) 8 of the begonias were growing in the bag...none of the caladiums had any new growth so we will see what happens. Fingers crossed...its all good this time! I should have grabbed the peony...didnt realize it was a tree peony so thanks for clarifying....will look for it next year.

      It is amazing how many invasive plants are for sale. I am glad your recent experiences have been better. Thank you for sharing your experiences. The peony is a hybrid, so a cross between and tree peony and a garden peony. I will post an update when it gets bigger.

    • @uptosomething6271
      @uptosomething6271  4 месяца назад +1

      If they are actively growing you should keep them inside if your nights will be below freezing or if you are expecting frost. If it is past your last frost date, you can leave them in an area protected from wind, like up against your house. Also, you may need to harden them off to the sun and elements before planting. You can do this by making sure they get a little sunlight each day and extending the amount of sun a little at a time. Thanks so much for sharing and for the question. I hope that helps!

  • @mnaumoff8396

    How well does you hoop house hold up under a snow load? Wind tolerance?

    • @uptosomething6271
      @uptosomething6271  3 месяца назад

      So far, so good, but the most snow we have had is 8 inches. If you have a lot of snow, I think you would definitely have to go out with a broom and brush it off. We get wind and have not had any issues, but we also line the entire rim of plastic with bricks. If you tend to get wind, I would not rely on the stakes that they include.

      Hi, If it is past your last frost date you can plant them out in your garden. They like to have their leaves in the sun, but their roots shaded. If your last frost date is later in the month or in May, then I would pot then up instead of leaving them in the package.
