- 3FM-dj Vera Siemons praat met St. Vincent net voor haar show op Best Kept Secret over haar nieuwe album ‘All Born Screaming’, samenwerken met Dave Grohl en de sapphic queer revolutie in de hitlijsten met muziek van o.a. Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan en natuurlijk St. Vincent zelf.

Annie made it clear that unlike all past albums and tours, this time she was not assuming a persona for an art-rock project but was stripping it all away and revealing her true self. This is obviously true given her new "no holds barred" stage presence. But also, in the past, going all the way back to her Brooklyn performance and pre-Marry Me days, her queerness was something between the lines, or inferred from songs and surmised from dating rumors; for her own reasons, she didn't address it head on. Most likely, she wanted to be known as an artist and not be professionally ghettoized as a "queer performer". But, this interview and several others in the past few months (and the song "Power is Out") show she has finally satisfied herself that she is sufficiently well established and recognized as a brilliant artist with a near-mainstream following, and can come out proud in a big bold way. I don't think I've heard her use the word "lesbian" before. Hope you're having the time of your life, Annie; you deserve it. Thank you for all you have given us.
Calling someone queer is “Ghetto-izing” them? Please elaborate
@@ReadingComprehension8X Didn't say that. Listen to her rationale for changing professional name from Annie Clark to St. Vincent; then multiply by ten.
❤❤❤ love this!! Agreed as someone who has followed her interviews throughout the years. aaaah! her vibe is so glowy and good.
Good comment. I totally agree as a long-time listener. 'Do I amuse you dear? 'Would you find me queer, if I while standing beside you I opted instead to....disappear.' (what me worry, 2007 - for example). It must be strange for her seeing these overtly queer lesbian artists and I too did a double take hearing her claim to be a lesbian (inferred through her accepting the interviewer's comment which she offered her to back down from) -but then taking the bait by saying 'who was your favourite lesbian?' Just shows everyone is on their own journey. Maybe in the future, 'espionage' won't be sexy because it won't exist for queer people. Whether that's good or bad, is probably up to personal preference.
can I ask how you think 'power is out' shows how she is satisfying herself in this way? it's one of my favourite from the album but didn't get this takeaway from it. could you elaborate as it might enrich my listening?
I love that she will be so humble about literally trailblazing such a powerful path for wlw music, cause I absolutely will NOT be humble about it, screaming at everyone to realize that icons like her are not just queer present but queer HISTORY. Loved this conversation and how much you managed to cover in 11 min. ❤
She influenced me to come out as trans
Deze dame is een geweldige artiest en muziekant en geeft geweldige live optredens en de albums die ze tot nu toe gemaakt heeft zijn stuk voor stuk meester werken.
She is just such a cool person!!
Such an absolute artist and badass.🖤
Thank you for your service!!!! 4:20 wilde ze bijna ‘straight pride’ zeggen voordat ze zichzelf bedacht.. lol
She knows the craft better than most of us.
Omg ❤
So is she openly gay or is she bi?
She's an artist, and like the majority of the artists beyond their works they have nothing to say but bullshit. Or maybe not exactly bullshit, but a good artist is not a special person once is separated from the art and I think she perfectly knows that ('cause she's clever), so she keeps herself hidden as possible.
🙌🏼
I am also a boring white person. Please respect my fluid sexuality (I sometimes prefer gingers to brunettes).
No it doesn’t. Signed, a queer person.
