My mom worked at Richards Lilac Lodge. Lulu Bells was the bar in the restaurant that looked like a bordello. Done in all red and velvet. I remember them having different performers singing and jazz bands. My experience was in the late 70s early 80s.
The original Richards' Lilac Lodge with Lulu Belle's Boudoir on the 2nd floor was in an old brick building on the NW corner of Wolf Rd. and 22nd St. in Hillside, bordering with Westchester. It had a bad arson fire, as you said, in 1964. It was rebuilt at a slightly different location to the north and across the street on Wolf Rd. Queen of Heaven Cemetery is not far north of the original building. My parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at the "new" Lilac Lodge in 1970. There were more restaurant fires (mob-related?!!) in Westchester and Hillside within a short time. Thanks for your program!
