  • Nathan and I head to Forster for a day trip in search of some monster flathead. I had packed my big lures only so the temptation wasn’t there to go after numbers, we wanted a big girl! We had the whole run out tide to fish which is certainly the best time to be targeting these fish as they wait in shallow weedy sand pockets for any bait to swim past to ambush.
I hope you enjoy the video!

Unlucky on the first big girl, That was up near 1m for sure but glad you guys got another one..... That eat next to the Kayak was wicked to catch on film.
I've had them follow my Bream lures like that down here at St georges basin and have to wind really fast to try and not hook them 😂

Yeah most people reckon it was between 90cm- 1m which my guess it high 90s so I’m absolutely spewing about it but I did head up a week later and cracked my PB so keep an eye out for that video in two weeks time!
But yeah I’ve hooked them on bream gear and been absolutely destroyed 😅

Unlucky m8, the ones that gets away teaches us more than the ones we catch imo. Nice fish your m8 got, great footage as usual.

    Beautiful fish!
    Sorry for your loss!
Personally, I fight flathead with my rod down lower.
Using side control, ie: to keep their head underwater!
If big flathead are fought with line pulling straight down on jaw, they shake their head and gillrakers!
    I wasn't sitting in a kayak though!
I reckon that fish would have weighed 9 pound easy!
