    As someone who recently spent far too long researching Dominaria, my preferred storylines are the ones that really broke out of the Tolkienian mold, such as Mirage, Ice Age, Invasion and Time Spiral. Settings like these really demonstrate the hodge podge, anything could happen, genre-bending weirdness that I enjoy about Dominaria.

      I began playing during the Onslaught block. The story was incredible. The war between a dreamborn angel and a huntress resurrected as a Cabal weapon, all onto the tapestry of a world being reshaped by the Mirari's influence, with the threat of the now resurrected slivers was such an amazing ride.

    My favorite part of the Dominarian storyline was the Ice Age. I got started with playing Magic around the time of Unlimited. But I didn't REALLY get into the lore behind the game until Ice Age happened, and my cousin got me interested in the stories behind the cards. Also, the idea of an Ice Age, in any fantasy world, is just an interesting element in and of itself, in my own opinion.

    The teaser they released of Ajani Compleated legit made me cry. Not "tear up", full bawling, cry.
    I really hope we get a year or two of struggling against the Phryexians & then a way to beat them, maybe they use Tamyio to release the Eldrazi for power but get eaten & reformed or some other comeuppance. Since 2020, the plot & reality have been uncomfortably similar & overwhelming (with product to keep track of).

    Could we get a video that speculates how long ajani has been a sleeper? There was a long period of time he was missing after elspeth died and maybe he went to phyrexia to lay some of his old friends enemies to waste and got corrupted into a sleeper then? He's always been passive and "hunting tezzeret" when he came back in kaladesh. Wouldn't it be neat if he was actually hunting tezzeret and on kaladesh to make sure the planar bridge was completed (compleated) and that tezzeret didn't die.

      I think it occurs during the events of Dominaria United. The story of Neon Dynasty implies that Tamiyo is the Phyrexians' first success in their process for compleating planeswalkers, so at the very least there were no sleeper planeswalkers before War of the Spark.

Onslaught block was, and still is, really special to me, I read the three novels of that storyline and loved the weird story (although I didn't know characters like Kamahl who was introduced earlier). When it comes to anything centered on Dominaria, I can only refer to the Time Spiral novels. That said, my favorite moment has to be when Jeska closed the final rift over Otaria, which at that point she had been so aggressive and disregarding of those she used (Radha and Multani) until she received just desserts from Leshrac. It made for a sobering moment for Jeska when she needed to confront her own demons, and had received aide from a willing Radha and Venser to close the last rift at the cost of the former's spark and her own life. Her reuniting with Kamahl in death was the cathartic icing on the cake.

    I am pretty fuzzy on my chronology, but I have read that around the time of Time Spiral, they started having sets and cards on Shandalar, because Dominaria was just too fouled up to use. They did not want all the cards and sets to depict a post apocalyptic desert. That did not fit in with the more generic sword and sorcery fantasy setting most cards and sets use.

    • @jonathanwatson4484
      @jonathanwatson4484 2 года назад

      I actually rember that, I think it was made by a unnamed planewalker who had a vision that the plane would be a perfect world of artificer, so they worked on that vison, however after they died, the creator of the phyexians fuss himself to the very fabric of the plane becoming a god, and hence rename it phyexiere.

    • @bluedog4248
      @bluedog4248 2 года назад

      So "old phyrexia" was created by an unnamed artificer. Yawgmoth found it and used it as his place to create the phyrexians. That was sealed up and then eventually destroyed.
      Then, the next plane was unnamed (I believe) but Karn found it. When he did, he renamed it to Mirrodian, put memnarch in charge, but accidentally brought with him a bit of oil

    • @friki1282
      @friki1282 2 года назад

      I guess your a fairly new player or at least to the lore. Something is compleated when it simply becomes phyrexian. Phyresis is a disease of sorts, it's an oil called the glistering oil that corrupts the things it touches(specially fluids) to transform those things into more oil. In organic beings this makes them grow artificial metalic parts and in metal it makes it grow psuedo biological parts and gains sentince. Zombie like, once someone is contaminated by the phyresis they start seeing it as blessing and see themselves as more advanced beings. Someone gets compleated and the final stage of the disease when they seek or are forced to(if the phyrexians need to compleat them fast) undergo a surgery in where they heavenly modify their bodies to add to them anything they liked: giant claws, armor, cannons, extra limbs and whatever. When it's finalized, the individual feels whole on a whole other level, they feel as powerful and perfect as they have never felt before and the feeling doesn't go away. A little strange or a comparison but you know how when a trans person undergoes operation and afterward they feel like their real self for the rest of their lives? It's a similar feeling, the know feel compleat and that's the reason the phyrexians call it that way. Compleated beings feel pity for other not compleated beings so they seek to expand the blessing of compleation and that's their objective as a thread, to compleat everything. Hope this helps.

      It is left open to speculation. The most popular theory is that they got to him sometime after the big peace summit, when he jumped out the window and chased a phyrexian, and got separated from everyone else. That would mean he was a sleeper by the time he showed up again later in the story, at the camp with Danitha.

    My favorite story from Dominaria is the original Weatherlight Saga, running from Weatherlight to Apocalypse. It was my favorite era in magic, a zoom in on a small team of mortal heroes in a wide, strange multiverse. I had a really hard time coming back to magic after about a 10 year gap after mercadian masks only to find that planeswalkers were a) superbloodycommon now and b) not immortal c) lots of my favorite characters died in horrible ways or did terrible things.
