  • Catching the Most Vibrant Yelloweye Rockfish While Fishing In Seward Alaska is one take short video of me catching a nice fat yelloweye rockfish while out on my boat fishing in the North Gulf of Alaska. Here's a Halibut from this trip: • Fishing a Deep Sea Hol...
On this trip I travelled 70 miles out of The Port of Seward to find some sheltered waters to wet a line in! While I was jigging up some fish a huge yelloweye rockfish decided that he wanted in on the action! These fish are bright orange in color and can live to be over 100 years old. The happen to be one of the tastiest fish on the planet as well. Check out this awesome fish I caught in Alaska and let me know what you think in the comments below! Thanks for watching!

Dang nice yelloweye! My largest is 0 lbs, but I'm hoping to break my record this year! 😂

The odds of you beating that record are as good as any! Just make sure you're fishing in saltwater 🤞

As to eating: Yellow Eye #1, Black Rockfish #2, Pacific Cod #3 and Halibut #4. Feeder Kings #1, Sockeye #2 and Silvers #3. Pinks are great bait; the belly strip stays on the circle hook real well. I like to use a wire tie on the strip above the hook eye so the bait doesn't bunch up on the curve of the circle hook and retard the hook set.

I like that lineup! I really like coconut lingcod too. Here's a link to my recipe I'm sure you've already tried. ruclips.net/video/abPmF5KAWAU/видео.html
Sounds like you know exactly how to rig up a salmon belly, the best bait available!

I did catch some 7lb Black Rockfish at about 180'. They are great eating as well! The yelloweyes really scarf up the chum I put out for halibut.

Yea the black rockfish don’t get quite as big but it sure it nice that you can harvest three times as many

My biggest last year was 11 lbs. exactly on a digital scale. A lot of fish shrink on a scale! Next year I am after a 20lber. Might have to go after a short-raker to do it. That is a lot of reeling...900' deep sometimes.

Last years best on my boat was a 22lber caught it in 90ft of water. This one in this video was 18.4lbs. I keep hearing about this ultra-deep fishing but don't have the gear yet to try it out!

My boy is going to try to get out for kings the first week of March if the ice is out of the harbor.

Awesome! Me too! Homer should be doable by then and there should be enough daylight to run out about ten miles out to the bluffs to see what's hungry!

Wow! I bet that fish was incredible to see! I know they can get huge like that but it’s certainly not everyday (or season) that a gigantic almost 30lb yelloweye makes it to the boat! I bet it’s otoliths we’re huge! Thanks for sharing, E Chugach gulf waters are tops fishing grounds.

It will have to be on a day when there's nothing better to do or I am limited out on salmon and already have the halibut and lingcod or am going to spend the night in a cove and have time to kill. There is a lot of light in the summer and it seems a shame to spend time sleeping when the sun is shining! I really don't want to put the $$ in electric reels although I know some people use them.
I get side-tracked trolling for a nice King. They are better fighters, I think, pound for pound, than a silver. I really want to try some cable meat rigs with a 7-8" herring behind a flasher this summer.

April is coming up quick for the Homer King Derby and I really want to try out some new gear and methods myself. I can’t hardly wait! With all this rain we’ve been having we may end up getting an earlier start this year yet..!

They sure are awesome looking fish. The bigger ones have 2 really nice ivory ear bones that are worth carving out.

Wow, that’s legendary! Such a huge yelloweye. I bet those waters hold some of the biggest anywhere. I’ve done the Barrens but haven’t pushed on to Shuyak yet.

@@alaskasmallcraftadventures ridiculous fishing down there. I've spend many summer working week long. long range charters down there and hunting trips.

Oh man I love the idea of taking a week to just GO!! I may end up working in a long range overnight style adventure this summer if the weather allows for it. Crossing over from the Kenai Peninsula to Kodiak can be limited to just a couple times a month for a boat like mine.
