Which is the main building material in USA house? Are they built by wood with a concrete basement? Or a sort of steel space frame?

Is this where I need too look for a house, for me to have a basement. I'm also asking, why so many windows that I'm seeing, in these newer home. Also, what's the warranty like, on the outside walls foundations, for on these type of homes. I'm also wandering, how thick are these outside walls, that are holding the foundation of these types of homes.
