I have known Rodriguez for over thirty years. He is a kind and wonderful person. I am so happy for him that at long last he is being recognized for his talent which Americans have overlooked. Congratulations, friend.
Me too. He was such a part of my time at Wayne State University, and protest rallies against the Vietnam War. You could count on him being there. We went to see him play at the Circa, and elsewhere, whenever we could. I too am so pleased that the world finally gets to see and appreciate Detroit’s Rodriquez.
The "Searching for Sugar Man'" documentary is finally giving Rodriguez the recognition that he deserved in the USA decades ago. This man was bigger than Elvis in South Africa!
Boarding school in Pretoria from ‘75 to ‘77. The Soweto riots happening and it all felt like it could blow up any minute. Friends of mine up at the border during National Service. Rodriguez gave a voice to how wrong it all felt and a way to express the Establishment Blues.

His music is timeless..I'm so glad Sixto finally got the recognition he richly deserved in recent years. Thank you for sharing your brilliant songs with us. The world has lost a truly remarkable, gifted artist. RIP Sugar Man, your music will live on..❤️🌹
RIP Sixto Rodriguez, such an under rated artist, so glad that he found the success that he deserved later in life.......thanks for providing a part of the soundtrack to my youth
I met a friend from south Africa 1990s and he used to play Rodriguez all the time and i really got into the album cold fact . Amazingly not very well know outside of south Africa very underrated amazing music
An amazing artist loved his music , played Cold Fact everyday in the army . Glad he was around to see that he has been recognised pity it was not earlier.
I have always loved the bass line in this song. I have just shed a quite tear for his passing. A wonderful song writer and musician who was never fully appreciated. I had the good fortune to hear Cold Fact in the 1970s, loved the album, and never understood why he was not better known throughout the world.

Colin from Accounts used this song in series 2, episode 1. I didn't immediately realise that I had Sugar Man on CD. Lovely song. RIP RODRIGUEZ. Very underrated, sadly.
Wow. What haunting tone. Erie and perfect for the sixties and seventies hippie movement. His music is a call back from the spirits of those years left behind. A voice that was ignored or perhaps to faint for our ears to hear then, but is loud and clear now. It's like a puzzle piece that we weren't even aware was missing but fits perfectly now. His lyrics makes his music contemporary for all time, a soundtrack for our lives, almost went unnoticed, sad that this artist may pass without monetary riches surrounding him, yet he now walks like legend among us; how Rock N Roll is that!?!
I'm glad Sixto got some fame and success in his final years. The guy was underrated and should have been in on the whole early 70s singer songwriter movement. He was like a gritty urban James Taylor or something. When I saw the movie I couldn't help but think the songs were somehow familiar although I'd never heard them like most Americans. There was something timeless about his songs, they fit in the early 70s yet were street smart enough to not sound dated.
This guy should be a household name like the Beatles. Truly a genius! Only 1.7k thumbs up people. This guy is amazing check out his life story if you don't already know it and thumbs it up!
Probably the musician that was treated the worst by the music industry yet time finally beat them all and recognition to a great lyricist and musician won!
I learned of this great man through the documentary back in 2013. It was such a touching story. I cried over the great success he experienced not even knowing that he was a star. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. I was hoping I would have had a chance to meet him as I'm in the neck of the woods where he lives. God rest his gentle soul. Prayers for his daughters. This is my favorite song by him.

I'm in the UK, I've just binge-watched series 2 of "Colin From Accounts" and they used this song in one episode. Had never heard of this singer before - I will be looking up more of his stuff. Sad to learn he's no longer with us.
Had never heard of Rodgriguez until I was in a night club in Durban, South Africa in January 1996. The place absolutely went off. A few days later bought his CD in Cape Town (still have it, along with the R25.99 price sticker on the cover) and there hasn't been a week since that I've not played it / sung at least part of it to myself.......................

Jason Parker It’s been happening since its release for sure.
Sixto es un capo, gifted musician.
