I'm a big tapehead and have a lovely 3-head, quartz lock Tascam deck on my hi-fi. Still, I'm thinking of picking one of these up just to keep around, it looks so cool!
I collect CDs, Tapes, Records, it's not just about sound quality for me, I have a DAP for that. To me, physical media is equally, if not more, about fun, and as long as this thing sounds DECENT, it seems like a whole lot of fun!!

Honestly love the concept and design of this product. It’s actually very functional if it were built with better quality. The cassette can virtually turn any old speakers or boombox Bluetooth. I know it’s more of a novelty and showpiece but I like that there is some unique functionality it offers along side it’s aesthetics

I'm pleased your daughter is listening to stories on tape. Currently I have been listening to audio books that are no longer available on my old Sony Walkman. Hard to beat. Thanks for the review. It is one of those things that looks cool but probably has little other value. At least it functions.

Actually I was surprised by the sound quality of the built in speakers. Much better then I was expecting with a device such as this. A drawback that I hear is the motor noise present in the audio signal. I would be curious what the wow & flutter looks like on this. As a novelty and conversation piece the price is not that bad. The overall build quality seems decent unlike a lot of retro devices made in this category.

There's nothing wrong with the head on the Bluetooth tape, it's literally how they used to make those aux input tapes for using CD players on your car stereo. It's not going to harm your tape deck head.
They just completely fumbled on the reels mechanism.

Interesting video. I already make MP3 players out of old cassettes and have been experimenting with bluetooth as well. The noise is due to the hubs rotating and rubbing. But they need to as the auto stop would activate if they didnt..... My fix would be a switch that would disable the auto stop when using the streamer. Or just replace the cheap effect with something better engineered.... Although to be honest my old cassette adaptor makes some noise but nowhere as much as your one does... Otherwise a great vid. I can see stuff like this finding a home with ordinary people who just want the 'odd' experience of playing cassettes.

Looks kinda cool, sounds ok-ish even though W&F is clearly noticable on the piano, it's that Tanashin-clone mech you find in most boomboxes since the 90s.
Also, it doesn't record. Overall it's a little meager for the price. The BT cassette is nice but they've been around for a while now. It doesn't have much use in home HiFi but it comes in handy for classic car headunits or boomboxes without input.

Way way better than the Yamaha I was using even though it’s almost 20 years older. I was super happy to find a working Nak under 100$, let alone for 50

I think the adapter would only work properly with a 2 head cassette deck or one that has the record head separate from the play head.
In normal 3 head decks, the play head would be offset to the side, so the gap of the adapter head does not line up with the gap of the play head anymore.

    Hi Guido.
This is a funny device, and thanks for pointing out the low quality. It is what it is and that's fine. No one can mistake this for quality.
One thought comes to mind though, and I'm not saying this to be a body part not fit to be mentioned; But doesn't the cassette crowd deserve that better products starts to hit the market? As long as manufactures get's attention from spewing out junk, what will motivate them to make something decent? Perhaps it's better to pass them in silence till they make something that actually is something. The market is clearly there, and maybe silence will give them the final kick in the body part I didn't mention before, so they start delivering.
As you already know cassettes aren't my thing and I don't get why the format have had the come back that it has, but I believe people should have what they want. That's why I had to turn to the keys the second the thought hit me.
    Stay awesome Mate.
    All the best from Denmark.

A good point and reasonable but I feel that censoring won't help that much. Look at the comments here, clearly very few will buy one and I perfectly understand that. I think it's interesting to signal every new attempt with some sense.

    • @TheSoundrookie
      @TheSoundrookie Год назад

      @@anadialog Hi Guido.
I don't mean censorship. In fact censorship sucks in my opinion. But you can't show every product on the market on your channel right? You have to pick the ones that kinda stands out. That's not censorship. That's just what you have a chance to overcome, and that's what I mean. Manufactures are very interested in getting their stuff presented by reviewers. Therefore it's in their interest to make something that stands out. That's the kind of motivation I'm talking about.
Mechanisms, tapeheads etc. are all the same from the absolute cheapest to the most expensive machines nowadays, and as long as this is the case each and every product will be low quality compared to what the cassette crowd is yearning for. Though some once in a while make a machine with the same junk in another wrapping, with a new name and perhaps a couple of fancy gimmicks there's really nothing new to it. They are basically just trying to cash in on the weather forecast for yesterday. BUT if manufactures get their act together and start producing quality mechanisms and heads, THEN we have something that stands out.
Your pick isn't in any way censorship because you are forced to choose - But what you pick or not pick can be motivating for the manufactures, and beneficial for the tape crowd. The way your channel has grown, you have become quite a force of nature in the field you know. You are not just cool as hell - You can also make a difference.
May the force be with you Mate.

    • @Jewellerybybarrie
      @Jewellerybybarrie Год назад

The problem is that nobody and I mean nobody actually makes a decent mechanism anymore. There are probably three to choose from and they are all rubbish. I have mechs from old stereos and a pile of heads that would be a million times better than the unit featured, but to do a decent job you would be looking at mega money. That unit is what $150.00? Walkmans used to be more than that 20 plus years ago.... In fact the Walkman TPS-L2 was $150.00 in 1979 and my wages then (in the Uk were around £24 a week $48). New machines are being made but they are all into four figures....... There is also no real "home" market for these just people who want to show off something different.

The tape with the guitar sounds like there's a lot of wow. But the piano tape sounds OK. Surprisingly good even for the low expectations I had. While piano is usually the hardest to listen to with high w&f. So, is it a guitar effect? In that case the guitar tape isn't very suitable as test tape because you think there are speed fluctuations which are actually part of the source signal 😁
The speaker sounded better than I thought it would. But for $150? No way. It looks cool, but more like $50 cool. But thank you for testing it out and showing it. Funny device 👍
But, metal on metal? I wouldn't let that adapter go anywhere near my good deck heads 😱 Might be good to keep a cheap 2-head deck around for these kinds of tests, or for playing tapes that you don't trust, such as mouldy tapes etc.

they just had to use the chew up drive system...the first thing i would do if i had one is to replace it with the one that uses the black rocker arm. the black rocker arm drive system has auto stop on play, rewind and fast forward. its also very common. and compatible with that one.
the best drive system i use is the symmetric auto reverse quad head drive. its only for playback though.

I make standalone MP3 players from old cassettes and have been looking at bluetooth, its a nice idea but very niche.... All the cassette adaptors make noise (ive just checked) because the hubs need to turn to 'fool' the auto stop systems. The thing to also remember is that NO new decent tapes are being manufactured and nor are mechs as well. To tool up would require an order of a min 10,000 units and thats why Sony made so many variants, they had all those mechanisms made and had to do something with them. Somewhere there may be a warehouse full of decent metal mechanisms and I would happily buy a couple of hundred as I have a nice idea for a unit.

You know, I just don’t care too much about tape hiss. It just doesn’t bother me.

@@anadialogwandered back to this video because my interests always lead to the same place. I will say, there’s a point where the audio degrades to a level that unacceptable, but I never really worry about eliminating tape hiss on my cassette recordings or on my players.

It's reported at the end of the video or you can follow the link in the video description. In any case, the device + the Bluetooth cassette is $150.

It's a shame they didn't make the bottom half transparent too as it would have sold well to inmates. All consumer electronics within prisons have to have transparent cases to prevent the the hiding of contraband.

I think you got your numbers wrong. The price you wrote is Hong Kong dollars, which equals to 150 US dollars.

I was dissapointed about this product if be honest. A little bit overpriced, because base tape for bluetooth connection is making a lot of noise, so you need time to cath a good position for her in speaker. Sound quality is ok, but as I expected a better. As a part of interior in your home is ok, as music player for $150 not good choice, here you pay more for «unique» idea.

Wow n flutter city!!! No thanks. Typical modern day cassette tat mechanism. Bin fodder!!!

    Plastic, plastic, plastic.
Is it really that much more hassle to build a mechanism with decent metal parts?
I think most cassette enthusiasts would appreciate it, and pay (something) extra for it.

These new cassette players are generally crap.
Best thing to do is get a used Yamaha, Aiwa, Technics from the '80s.
