HI! I'm am a boy in grade six, living in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. Even if I live in a different state, I always learn something in your videos. It's always good to see people catching some outstanding fish! By the way, the drone shots are epic in this video. Always keen to learn in the videos so please keep posting!
Your very welcome, yeah ive already had a few says it takes them back to thier child hood. I too have seen some massive mulloway pulled from there. Ive only ever landed a few soapies on soft plastics. Never really targeted them but prob should.
I remember when I could go fishing it was 2019.. 😂 Thanks for the vid hanging to get back out there after lockdown my garfish stocks have well and truly dried up
I know, i havent fished for almost a month and that feels like 10 years ago. No relief in site at the moment either which is the frustrating part. I hope you can get back out soon and stock up on gars, mind you the gars are probably peak right now so were missing out on some really good fishing.
I bet !! Nah fishing around Melbourne is tough especially in winter. Lots of fishing pressure and many of the fish shut down during winter. Wish i was in a regional area right now to access with some awesome waters.
I'm grateful that I chose to move to Phillip island from Dandenong erea I'm out of lockdown as of last night and the fishing down here is great specially if ya find the hidden places
Yeah a good move from you I think. It sucks being in Melbourne stuck in lockdown again. Phillip island is a beautiful part of Vic, clean beaches and plenty of awesome fishing opportunities.
@@fishingmad absolutely I've really become a fishing addicted since moving here I love it. Plus your channel has helped alot I've learnt a lot from you so thankyou and keep it up man
Thank you !! Complaments like that really help keep me motivated to do more. I'm envious that you get to fish Phillip Island Regularly, id be fishing flat out if i lived up there
Hi Lauren, I'm glad to hear the vids are helping. I know the feeling im going crazy with all these lockdowns and so many fishing projects on the kayak and boat on hold currently. Lets hope we can venture back out soon. What kayak do you have ?
@@fishingmad I was given a kings adventure kayak for my birthday to start me off into kayaking. Decent space and not too heavy. Gonna get a good couple of uses and feel for it before I look at getting a pedal kayak.
100% agreed, would have loved to have spent more time there and done exactly that. Some decent fish in that system if you put in the hours. These lockdowns have made getting out for a fish close to impossible.
Yeah i too have caught a few very decent snapper there over the years on bait and plastics. I lost a big one on the rocks some time ago. Snapper bites are really unusual sometimes. I caught a 6 kilo snapper a few months back which was the most gentle strike and than it took off once it finally releiased it was hooked.
Thanks for posting that little adventure. I have fished that spot up in the warmies channel many times. There are some absolutely stonking bream in there some days. Been smoked by them enough times. I wonder if the lockdowns will help with making a small difference to fish stocks, with a few less being caught and taken ....
Its a great questions, ive seen some studies and they believe the break on fishing pressure will have little impact, but i think it will still help. Great to hear you have caught some big bream there, I was thinking of just taking my bream spin outfit and flicking some small grubs. Might be worth another venture down there soon.
@@fishingmad I fish that spot with natural bait. Really small school prawn, peeled. I just throw it in completely unweighted on a 6 size circle hook, let it waft down. Works really well sometimes ...
Thanks Jared, yeah a few mates of mine used to eat the bream and pinkies they caught there regularly. Thankfully they are still alive and kicking. Some awesome fish down there but that water quality is somethign else thats for sure
My Nunnus used to eat Bream from there back in the day, but now I wouldn’t do that. I’ve seen people at the boat ramp there dumping fuel into the water
Yeah, plus they had that massive chemical spill from the factory fire 12 months ago and EPA said the water levels were horrendous. I'm sure many would have continued to catch and eat fish there though.
Mate, if you are game enough to watch your rod possibly get taken into the water by fresh water fish, go just a little downstream from the papermil/factory up ivanHoe ish way. There are some huge ones there that have no mercy when you are lucky enough to hook one up. Apart from carp, there are redfin, eels and idk what all not, lost two rods there which were in rod holders (back in the day). Don't see why anything would have changed over the years. ;)
@@fishingmad mate, look up the paper recycling factory in Melbourne, it has been a few decades since I was in VIC, but I spent more hours by the rivers than anywhere else. There was a spot just downstream from it, that was flat as flat can be when the water level was low, awesome spot and yabbies galore back then there too. (bait or quick meal, or both). I'll give up some of the best spots to ya to try, but not on these "public" chats, even this was a little bit of a betrayal of the unwritten law about good fishing spots! Cheers.
thanks again Alan for keeping me entertained during lockdown. I've heard of the warmies but never been there. I caught salmon out from the Sandridge lifesaving club which is not that far away.
Hey mate, I've only in the last week started learning about fishing, my question is would it be safe to eat the fish from the Yarra? I'm looking to fish so I can eat. Thanks in advance
Hi Jack, some parts of the yarra arent the best for eating fish. There are very high PH levels and at times the EPA have said the water levels are not good for eating. That being said spots closer to the entrance of PPB like many of the spots around Port Melb like pricness pier, lagoon, pier, even the warmies, entrance into PPB means that clean water is constantly going in and out of the system. I hope that helps
@@fishingmad absolutely did help mate thanks a million for the quick reply! If you don't mind me asking are there any websites I can look at where they give out that info? Thanks again mate
your very welcome, I think these guys are the only ones who monitor the water quality levels www.epa.vic.gov.au/for-community/summer-water-quality/yarra-watch
Personally I don't eat them, but I know plenty of people that do and seem to be OK. Just gotta keep an eye on the water levels. I think EPA website has some info about it
@@fishingmad I just checked out the site regarding the Yarra and I love how it states "(Good) means water quality is probably suitable for swimming", with the emphasis on "probably".
yeah exactly. I remember a while back it was reporting it really bad ages after the chemical spill at Footscray. I think they want you to do some trial and error with thier very answers on the website
Well , there's all types of human waste going in to the yarra , it an open drain . In saying that , i've eaten fish i caught from a cross over in the lower mekong and eaten them , and thats an open sewer .
This link should be very helpful for you fishingmad.com.au/locations we also have land based fishing maps and kayak fishing maps in the FishingMad Members area. Cheers

Ideally low winds, in PPB Notherly winds tends to flatten out the bay on this side of town. Prob more important to try and fish around the tides
