fantastic videos It really helped me understand concepts for Music Class I was able to understand more watching your videos in a half-day than a whole college semester online.

Really really appreciate!! I see everything is free on your website that's incredible, hope in the future when I get enough basic knowledge from it I can pay for your course or donate!! Ben! You are wondering teacher and musician!!!
Great video, well explained and well produced - thank you! I just had a question regarding Bach's Cello suite no.1. I always thought that was in G Major, not C? Then when I tried following the notes from the video on my piano, it sounded like it started in F#. Not really a problem, but I am curious, do you know which is the original key?
“C MAJOR” was probably a mistake in the editing. And also the reason the sound was in F sharp major is because it was Baroque Tuning. In the Baroque era they tuned there instruments a half step from what we normally have.
Baroque era of music, is actually a pinnacle of human civilization. After almost 2000 years stagnation of the middle age, the Roman Empire, human finally flourishing again. Renaissance is the start, and reached the peak at Baroque era. Then all the way down ward. From Bach -> Haydon -> Impressionists -> modern -> Justin Bieber, can it go any lower? It can.
I wouldn't say its all downward from there but baroque is certainly a high peak. Other notable peaks were Classical (Mozart/Beethoven), Romantic (Tchaikovsky/Mendelssohn), Early 20th century classical (Stravinsky/Holst/Vaughan Williams), Cinematic Music (Andrew Lloyd Weber/ Hans Zimmer), etc...
Someone could certainly compose a piece of music in a Baroque style if they used some of the musical “fingerprints” of the period. This is often a technique used by film composers when they are wanting to create the “sound” of a particular time period in history.
I love the cello and always think of it as the violin that grew up.
Adore baroque and this so thank you.

Do you call Bach 'the father of music'? I'm just wondering if this nickname is only called in Japan and Korea?
😛
Can someone compose a baroque era type of song in this present era
