I Love, Love , Love listening to Cody. I first heard him when I was on a road trip with my daughter and her friend, and I kept asking them to replay his songs. Then after I got home, I had to download them on my phone, so that I could listen to his songs, I couldnt get them out of my head. Funny thing, I have bought his CD, and I never get tired of listening to him... BTW, Cody, Come back to Waco soon.. !!!! :)
this song definitely should've been on the Hell or High Water soundtrack. it almost perfectly fits with the storyline. By far my all time favorite song by Cody Johnson
Hell or High Water is hands down the best movie I've seen that's come out in the last decade. Only part that I didn't like was when they buried that poor '86 Camaro!
I absolutely agree with you. I was not meaning to take any credit away from Cody. I love his music, but i still would've liked to hear this particular song sang by Chris.
Chris would of made it feel more like he did with Johnson county war. Would of made a. Great song out of it but Cody gives it that personal number with the way his voice is
I love this song it's not even funny cody you're one hell of good man. And you're music is more moving than most of the new stuff on here thank you sir for keeping it simple
Cody had brought my faith that country music is this pop stuff that true country is still alive I have his music playing constantly this song is always being replayed over and over I love it
This should be on the radio BUT he does not have Taylor Swifts legs so he gets 2nd fiddle...... too bad talent does NOT sell anymore just fluff ......Keep playin' Cody and stay true!!!!!
He is on my radio station every saturday night here in Lawton oklahoma cause saturday is Texas radio live which shines light on all the red dirt singers from texas
Well, glad to see someone knows their history and has some plausible ideas. However the coupe de ville didn't come out til 1949. Had same impression til the car was mentioned. It was only 40 yrs later, things weren't that much more sophisticated.

I say they make a movie out if this kinda like walk the line would be pretty good. It's a country song that tells a story which in my eyes is what country music is supposed to be about.
Cody Johnson is from Tennessee ?? How on God's green earth can there be so much technology and literally an unprecedented amount of ignorance at the same time is amazing.
Wish this kinda country music was on the Radio and not the crap playin' right now. I mean it's good on occasions, but what happened to Jonny Cash, Chirs Ledoux, Ian Tyson, etc etc? I mean it's all bout girls now a days, what about rodeo and the real stuff. No more of this trash on the radio...
Kytie Beardall SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE FOLKS IN THE BACK. I feel the same way, that's why I don't listen to the radio anymore, I listen to the real country that I have on my phone.💯🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
For those 101 people that gave this a thumbs down... I guarantee they grew up on this popish crap they call country. They've never heard the real sound of country music!!!
Absolutely, this song is a perfect reflection of that story, “See when times get hard, some good old boys turn to a life of sin” This meaning that the members of the gang such as Dutch, John, Arthur etc. couldn’t make any money because they had to live off the streets, so eventually they had to come together and rob banks, trains, and wagons to survive. “Were like Robin Hood, just twice as good but we can never go home again” This meaning that the gang were really good at robbing and thievery. However they could never leave that life style, even if they wanted to. Like John tried his hardest, but eventually it caught back up with him. “The sheriff and, the banker man came to push us off of our land. Now were 6 feet deep and my brothers and me, we can never go home again.” This meaning Agent Milton and Agent Ross trying to push the gang out of the country, and them trying eventually cost the lives of quite a bit of people in the gang. “Lord forgive me, I know just what I’ll do. I’ll take what I need, then I’ll leave the rest to my momma, and you.” This meaning Arthur eventually understanding that dutch’s plan was pointless. Then all Arthur wanted was to get the people he loved out, and if he could do that, then he believed he won. “That tin roof cabin might’ve not have been heaven, but it’s closer than I’ve ever been” This meaning that even though the gang constantly had to move into sometimes very uncomfortable places, they always had each other. And they felt thats all they needed. “God bless an outlaws weary soul, I can never go home again” This meaning god bless the outlaws for all the pain and suffering they had to go through. “You better watch your back, and cover every track of where you’ve been” This showing and explaining had to constantly out run pretty much everything. Like the Pinkertons, the O’Driscolls, and the 2 rival Rhodes families. “1000 wrongs can never make a right, I can never go home again” This showing that Arthur finally understood that all of Dutch’s fancy words and speeches never really amounted to anything. “Scatter gun blast tears a 10 inch hole through an empty burlap sack” This foreshadowing Arthur’s final stand against dick faced Micah. “As I say my piece for my brothers and me, my whole world fades to black.” This showing that after Arthur saved all the people he loved, he eventually died. “God bless an outlaws weary soul, I guess I finally made it home, again.” This showing that through Arthur’s sacrifice, John and his family finally were able to live a temporary peaceful on the right side of the law.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU AT THE 2015 TEXAS FFA STATE CONVENTION IN JULY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear we need more outlaw country music lol speaks to my
rebel soul 🖤
I know
How Bout you ...right.
Same
Scatter gun blast, tens in the air
Half a million in a burlap sack
Y'all have a nice day as we make our way
To the caddie in the ally out back
See when the times get hard
Some good old boys turn to a life a sin
We're like Robin Hood, we're just twice as good
But we can never go home again
Well I grew up singing Amazing Grace
In a little white church in the woods
My momma prayed hard for all her boys
But her praying didn't do a bit of good
The sheriff and a banker man came to push us off of our land
Now we're six feet deep
And my brothers and me we can never go home again
Lord forgive me, I know just what I do
I'll take what I need and then
I leave the rest to my momma and you
And that tin roof cabin might not have been heaven
But it's closer than I've ever been
God bless an outlaw's weary soul
I can never go home again
Sometimes I dream of that old front porch and my momma patching up a quilt
While my brothers and me lay around in the shade of that live oak tree on the hill
Now it's hide-out shacks, better watch your back and cover every track of where you've been
A thousand wrongs will never make it right, I can never go home again
Lord forgive me, I know just what I do
I'll take what I need and then
I leave the rest to my momma and you
And that tin roof cabin might not have been heaven
But it's closer than I've ever been
God bless an outlaw's weary soul
I can never go home again
Scatter gun blast tears a ten inch hole
Through an empty burlap sack
As I say my peace for my brothers and me
My whole world fades to black
Here's three new graves underneath the shade of
That live oak tree on the hill
Overlooking momma's porch with a fresh coat of paint
And a shiny new Coup De Ville
Lord forgive me, I know just what I've done
I've been through hell and found myself on the wrong end of a gun
And that tin roof cabin might not have been heaven but it's closer than I've ever been
God bless an outlaw's weary soul, I thought I'd never make it home
God bless an outlaw's weary soul, I guess I finally made it home again
Someone say thanks for the lyrics... No? Me? Ok thanks for the lyrics bud lmao

Who’s listening to this in 2020
This song reminds me of Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2.
I jam this song and play that game
At the same time
Absolutely, this song is a perfect reflection of that story,
“See when times get hard, some good old boys turn to a life of sin”
This meaning that the members of the gang such as Dutch, John, Arthur etc. couldn’t make any money because they had to live off the streets, so eventually they had to come together and rob banks, trains, and wagons to survive.
“Were like Robin Hood, just twice as good but we can never go home again”
This meaning that the gang were really good at robbing and thievery. However they could never leave that life style, even if they wanted to. Like John tried his hardest, but eventually it caught back up with him.
“The sheriff and, the banker man came to push us off of our land. Now were 6 feet deep and my brothers and me, we can never go home again.”
This meaning Agent Milton and Agent Ross trying to push the gang out of the country, and them trying eventually cost the lives of quite a bit of people in the gang.
“Lord forgive me, I know just what I’ll do. I’ll take what I need, then I’ll leave the rest to my momma, and you.”

“That tin roof cabin might’ve not have been heaven, but it’s closer than I’ve ever been”
This meaning that even though the gang constantly had to move into sometimes very uncomfortable places, they always had each other. And they felt thats all they needed.
“God bless an outlaws weary soul, I can never go home again”
This meaning god bless the outlaws for all the pain and suffering they had to go through.
“You better watch your back, and cover every track of where you’ve been”
This showing and explaining had to constantly out run pretty much everything. Like the Pinkertons, the O’Driscolls, and the 2 rival Rhodes families.
“1000 wrongs can never make a right, I can never go home again”
This showing that Arthur finally understood that all of Dutch’s fancy words and speeches never really amounted to anything.
“Scatter gun blast tears a 10 inch hole through an empty burlap sack”
This foreshadowing Arthur’s final stand against dick faced Micah.
“As I say my piece for my brothers and me, my whole world fades to black.”
This showing that after Arthur saved all the people he loved, he eventually died.
“God bless an outlaws weary soul, I guess I finally made it home, again.”
This showing that through Arthur’s sacrifice, John and his family finally were able to live a temporary peaceful on the right side of the law.
