Being a Canadian you did a fantastic job reviewing Canada! I will also add that September 30th is our truth and reconciliation day which is a day to remember all the atrocities that were committed against indigenous People of Canada and it's so appropriate you highlighted aspects about this and the timing of the release of the video!
Fun facts for you! Canada is the only country to have an island that has a lake which has an island in the lake which has a lake on the island as well do some searching it's a bit remote but you can find it in NWT.
2nd fun fact, Canada's southern most point is south of Oregon state see if you can find that one too!
Also don't forget to mention Tim Hortons in Canadian History and Culture LOL

I remember I was exploring Google Maps one time and I found a town in Canada called Happy Valley Goose Bay and I instantly wanted to live there on the name alone

Btw, locals say these are two towns, and they are part of metropolitan area. Happy Valley is just a town, Goose Bay is military airbase with some people living there, and these two are close to each other, that's why it is written Happey Valley - Goose Bay, or Happy Valley / Goose Bay
So, I commented that post, asking how residents of each town are called. Hope they answer me soon, or at least ever.
I bet not everyone in Toronto or Montreal knows demonym of Happy Valley / Goose Bay.
@@sheffley3081 nah, guy says due to this place being a military base, it is kinda secret and not normal to talk 'bout it from outside of Goose Bay and they actually don't have a certain word for that. Just residents of Goose Bay. Well, maybe Happy Valley-ers have one, let's see))

I’m Canadian and been waiting for this on your channel for a while! You also did it at the right time considering what’s going down on the 30th.
That was a great job. I grew up in Quebec during the troubled time in the 1960s and 70s. It was my first and so far only experience with Martial Law. If any of your viewers are curious though, look up The October Crisis 1971. A couple of small points about the War of 1812. It was the U.S. who started it. Ironically it was Southern Democrats who persuaded the rest of Congress to vote for it. The British didn't get very actively involved until near the end. The Brits had a skeleton crew over here, but were otherwise busy with the war with the French until 1814. Aside from the few Brits, we had French Canadian militia, and an alliance with Natives under the leader Tecumseh. To be more exact about Newfoundland's status, it was its own country within the British Empire until they joined Canada in 1949. That designation was given by the British and had nothing to do with an independence movement. A point on the RCMP. They're not a novelty police force. They are real police and for quite awhile now they have driven cars, and have worn regular police uniforms. The red uniform is only for ceremonial and public display purposes. They are on one hand, the equivalent of the FBI. On the other hand, they also provide provincial and local policing in the jurisdictions that can't afford their own police. By the way, the guards in red with the tall fuzzy hats are not from Britain. That's the Ceremonial Guard for Parliament Hill. They are a part of the Canadian military. I found that book about Canada really funny. It must be a really young author, since Justin Bieber is portrayed as Canada's music example. Obviously he or she has never heard of Gordon Lightfoot, Buffy Ste. Marie, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, The Guess Who, April Wine or Rush; all of whom are more popular and more musical than Mr. Bieber. Ketchup chips are fairly popular, but they don't outsell plain or salt and vinegar flavours. Many Canadians don't eat chips at all. My family has been in the grocery business since the 1930s, so I have first hand experience as the teenage toy that had to stock shelves. I know Poutine has its adherents, but it's not so much a Canadian heritage food, but rather an invention of the restaurant business sometime in the 1980s Nobody that I knew grew up having this at home. It's one of those corporately made traditions. Kind of like when Movie studios pretend that going to the movies on Christmas day is part of the tradition. It's actually more of a desperate parenting tactic to fill up the time between opening presents, and having turkey. That too, didn't start until about the 1980s or 90s. Canadian cuisine is to some degree non-existent. We have a few specialties but in general I think we're the world's leader in boring practical food. Montreal smoked meat is an exception though. I don't know if one could call it Canadian though as it is a version of Pastrami, which was brought to New York by Romanian Jews. If you ever go to Montreal, you can find many Jewish delis that serve it. Luckily our high immigration gives us other options besides our own diet. Despite my apparent pickiness though, you know more about Canada than many Canadians who were raised here. Be well.
PS: I think that the picture you said was Montreal may have been Quebec City. Montreal has a old section but it's been subject to much development over time, so a lot of it is gone. Quebec City, if only because the downtown is in the original fort built by the French, and development occurred around the city instead of on top of it.
A good way to explain the sport of Curling, is to say it's like cruise ship shuffleboard, played on ice.

I absolutely hate how RUclips censores and takes down historical videos. I think history should be talked about, no matter how terrible or gorey, so we don't forget what happened. Something needs to change their TOS. :(

Thank you for doing my country. There is so much to cover and you did a great job. As much as it is large and rural I have always been a city dweller, mostly in Montreal but also living in Vancouver. But I have seen a lot of the rest of the country, at least the south. What can I add except to say that the prairies are really a long drive through 2000 miles of wheat? And the Rockies are just a beautiful drive. Personally, I love to drive about 5 hours north of Montreal to a nature reserve to go for a canoe trip. There are thousands of lakes and rivers there. There are so few people and the water is so clean I drink right from the lake. I do live in Quebec but I am anglophone. Of course, we do need to speak French. Of note is that even though we are in many ways similar to Americans we have very different ideas about social policy. And we have very different ideas about guns and politics. For these two things, I am so grateful to live here and not in the USA. Anyway thanks for your wonderful documentary.

I'll add some canadian facts too :)
We have these things called a "sugar bush" where maple syrup is extracted from trees in a forest and they have a little (or sometimes large) log cabin where you can go in to buy some fresh maple syrup, sit and eat some pancakes with fresh maple syrup, do some fun activities like make maple syrup popsicles in the snow, and get a horse ride through a snowy forest trail :)
We have North America's biggest rollercoasters at Canada's Wonderland.
Our public transit costs are some of the most expensive in the world.
It's VERY expensive to send mail in Canada. It's more expensive to ship something within Canada than it is to ship something to USA from Canada. Therefore, Canadians who are lucky to live right at the border, cross over to USA to ship something to a Canadian address to save on shipping costs.
We have the world's largest skating rink! The Rideau Canal in the capital, Ottawa. (Where I live)
Nobody likes Quebec. And equally, Quebec likes nobody. Quebec has a superiority complex and it's sad but funny to laugh at. Also bad drivers, partly because the way that they earn their license is different than the rest of Canada.
Natives are respected wayyy more here than in USA. I remember growing up in school being taught about Natives and not knowing that they were seperate, I thought I was native too lol. We went to pow wows for school field trips. Their treatment is still not perfect by the government but amongst society, they are loved and I think most of us recognize that Canada belongs to them. I'm not sure if USA does this too, but Natives are tax-exempt.

I like Québec and they are in fact superior to the rest of Canada.
The part about Quebec is partially wrong. I personally think this is a generational issue as millennials and younger people tend to embrace the rest of Canada WAY more than the people before them. The independence debate is talked about as a joke even for Quebecois because we know it is never gonna happen, we need the rest of Canada and we are economically valuable as well.
What is also important to understand is that the so called « superiority complex » is mainly run by politicians that feed off of frustrated french-only speaking Gen X’s and baby boomers that wish the referendum succeeded. I personally don’t agree with this movement but it’s only my opinion.
As a french speaking Canadian born and raised in Québec, I speak perfect English and the overwhelming majority of people my age do too (I’m 25). We absolutely adore the rest of Canada and feel we are all part of an absolutely great country.

I live in Labrador and yea we get at least 8 feet of snow in the winters -50 windchill . Lots of lakes and rubies and wildlife. Sections of road over350 kms with zero civilization

Hi. Not offended or anything but the RCMP or Mounties are not a novelty nor "technically a police force". They are a very real police force with real police powers in large swaths of the country and serve as provincial and territorial police everywhere but in Ontario and Quebec.
Trust me people in Toronto are not nice it’s just all wanna be ganagsters😂
