    So, the British Drift Championship has been and gone, and Driftland is quiet once again. For those of you who came and supported us by visiting over the event weekend, thankyou! We're still exhausted after an epic event, but how has the Driftland track stood up to over 70 high-level semi-slick tyre shod power monster drift cars smashing out a layout for 3 days? We take a look!
    This video shows the top 5 things that Drift tracks suffer, which most normal race tracks would never allow. Everything from what happens at the start line queue, through how the clipping points and layouts are marked, all the way up to the devastation to the gravel pits when drivers get it wrong!
    We've done a similar video in the past but we thought it was worth revisiting this to show exactly how a busy event affects the track, and for those of you considering a new location for a drift event - these are our Top 5 reasons why you should think ahead!
    What Gear did we use making this video?
    Go Pro Hero 7: amzn.to/2Jb25Is
    Go Pro Suction Cup Mount (really good!): amzn.to/2H9bxZA
    Go Pro Mounting Frame/Cage: amzn.to/2Wy1Jib

    Driftland is the UKs only purpose built Japanese style drifting arena, built for all motorsport enthusiasts as a place to experience drifting at every level, from beginners taking their first steps to international competitions showcasing some of the finest talent the world has to offer.

      Also skim the concrete down into the soil a bit to help it not being dug back up .. Sort of how the kerbs look, a nice sweeping radius down to the mud ...

      You guys should try putting plastic mesh on the edge of the grass and rocks to catch the rocks that get shot by tires, the mesh won't hurt cars and it'll stop the rocks from being shot into the grass.

      2 suggestions for the first gravel trap in the video, reason #2, 1st back the pavement with concrete but not level with the track, leave a step down that can be covered with stone, this will help with track undermining, 2nd bring the stone net down the hill to where the grass ends, this way the stones drop back down where they can easily be racked out and grass mowed no problem.

    Try using sand for the trap instead of gravel. It won't get thrown as far. Seems the opposite since it is lighter but it being lighter it has far less momentum then a stone when chucked by a tire spinning at the equivalent of 80 mph more.

    Love the behind the scenes stuff guys as a business man and a car enthusiast I always wondered what went into running a track. With any business there is going to be unexpected expenses. You guys sound like you are being smart about it.
    The drifting community is use to being told what not to do so they hate it. But some rules must apply for everyone to enjoy the track.
    It would be financially irresponsible for you guys to not take other events and not just drifting. So you need some rules to protect your investment.
    Maybe one day it will be successful enough that you guys can build a second more serious track for the more professional race days. And let the drifters go mental on the old one.

    I'm sure you've thought of this but have you thought about putting a tarp over the grass? Stones will spray onto the tarp and it can just brush it all back into the trap rather then raking it off the grass and you'll be able to see the stones easily.

    • @DriftlandTV
      @DriftlandTV  5 лет назад

      yeah we decided the tarp will get damaged (cars end up there frequently) and the cost of buying and installing the tarp or netting massively outweighs the gravel costs.

    I know you said not to comment about installing a wall. But would a removable wall be an option ? Just to force the 'Higher Standard' drifters keep to the track confines, that can be removed for the regular drift days and non event days etc ?

    • @DriftlandTV
      @DriftlandTV  5 лет назад +1

      We don't have enough high standard drivers to run walls for a whole day, we run in groups of mixed abilities so unfortunately not an option. plus they're also SUPER expensive for robust enough ones so not even remotely in budget. one day perhaps!

    • @DriftlandTV
      @DriftlandTV  5 лет назад +1

      Hi, unfortunately tyre walls are a no-no for the same reasons as barriers, infact tyre walls are worse for causing rollovers as they claw cars into them. ALso you'll notice tracks don't use shagged tyres too - they are less structurally sound and wires hanging out of them would be another H&S consideration. We're just going for education and hopefully helping change other venues views on drifters! fingers crossed.

    Really cool videos. My only personal experience with race tracks is the Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans. I doubt 6000 roller skaters do anywhere near the damage a drift weekend can.
    And while the video could be seen as a whine, it gives you something to point to when someone's being a dick. "Of course I'm pissed off at you for ditching your car in the gravel every fucking lap, I'm the cunt that has to fix the track on Monday, otherwise you won't have somewhere to go drift".

    I feel like you guys just need to make the curbs way bigger that way it's actually a disadvantage for drivers to hit them. Though don't know what the rules and regulations are about that. Might not be totally safe.
