You could run most of the original campaign as something of a light adventure for a higher level party and just let them roflestomp their way through most of it. Up to you whether to skip the side quests or not. Should you wish to pose more of a challenge you can definitely upgrade Venomfang to a higher CR, but probably most places you can just throw more enemies at the players or let them decide how much trouble they want to bite off at one time. You might want to find a bigger cave map for Cragmaw Cave so you can expand it to something more appropriate.
Alternatively you might be able to add a different monster type that wasn't originally used and sprinkle them throughout where appropriate... Maybe some of those psionic goblins, or something.

I can’t wait to run this and explain the retcon to the original adventure by having my players characters wake up from the illusion of saving the “normal” Phandalin and discover to their horror that their minds were being toyed with, perhaps imprisoned by Glasstaff or the Black Spider, thus adding to the eldritch feel of this re-flavouring. (Explaining any irregularities and loose threads I left out in the process.) From there they can get their bearings and dive into the mind-bending madness this claims to deliver. So many established characters and story beats from my table’s version of the Starter Kit can be changed with that twist as we continue. So stoked!

While they didn't keep the epic loot, they did keep the exp. It was always a dream so maybe retcon was a bad word.... but they did keep exp and key information which was used as an advantage. They still saved Phandalin as per the original adventure and as bit of homebrew, but as things shift in front of their eyes, they’ll begin to question if they can trust their senses, perfect for a Lovecraftian evolution of the story. The trope is more like “Schrödinger's Butterfly” than “It was all just a dream”. Their choices and action still have tangible outcomes… but not always in the way they’ll expect.

I've tried running LMoP with 4 of my friends some time ago and the Cragmaw Hideout in the beginning of the game resulted in a TPK. It seemed very likely that at least one player would die, having in mind the low health pool of the players and the number of opponents. How are 4 lvl 1 characters supposed to beat 15 goblins, 1 bugbear and at least 1 wolf?
According to the rules both in the DMG and XGtE, some of the encounters there go way beyond deadly. Let's take the 4 characters group of lvl 1 as an example. An encounter would be deadly to them if the total monster XP reaches 400. In the Goblin Den there are 6 goblins * 50 XP = 300 XP. With the multiplier of 2 that totals 600 XP which makes that encounter alone 1.5 times deadlier than the "deadly" in the DMG (p. 82). Klarg's Cave is even worse with a total of 700 XP.
Not only that, but the expected XP for an adventuring day for that group of characters would be 1200 XP (DMG p. 84). The Goblin Arrows and the Cragmaw Hideout combined total 2500 XP which is also an overkill.
How is that whole thing supposed to work? Especially for brand new players and DMs like us? Either (1) the monsters should be severely weakened/their numbers lowered, (2) the characters should be initially buffed or (3) the group of players should consist of at least 8 lvl 1 characters for the difficulty level to be less than deadly as per the DMG.

This is like one of those movie trailers that basically tells you all the major plot points and potential resolution.

Wasn't the purpose of the obelisks revealed in Rime of the Frostmaiden? My group got that bad ending DX

The Netherese repurposed the obelisks from a design from another, one that is implied to be Vecna. It's still very mysterious and vague, and while ROTF explains one function of the obelisks, they didn't really explain what else they did or how they work. But yes, ROTF has gone the most into detail about the obelisks so far.

@@portsyde3466It's not implied to be Vecna. Vecna owns the last remaining obelisk from the group the Netherese based them off of, and his is much, much more powerful than the Netherese ones.

Seems like an interesting book to pick up! Soo... Psionic and psychic shenanigans, monster, threats? How about we actually getting help from the psychic Gem dragons fighting this threat in official capacity?? Sure we could homebrew in Underdark dwelling Sapphire dragons that often works with the deep gnomes and other Gem dragons to fight abberrations from the far realms etc and possibly this cosmic horror smelling threat. We need more gem dragons and gem dragonborn official art and content, especially the orangish Topazes and Crystal ones. Even ADD Gem dragon ancestries to the Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer in official capacity for new 5e Phb. It shouldnt make Fizbans book irrelevent since, well you forgot to update that book with said Draconic Bloodline ancestries.. Thats all
