This means that if 100 hp is replaced with rads, you're guaranteed a mutation. #2) Theres a place really far south called federal disposal field HZ-21. You can gain appx 150 points of rad damage per second, making it the fastest way to gain rads. There is no decontamination arch there, so you'll have to use radaway, luckily if you've gotten to the whitesprongs bunker, and have access to the medical wing, you can purchase (for 98 caps, which is a good deal if you ask me) the recipe to create your own radaway. Couple that with the "chemist" perk, and "super duper", you're bound to make a lot of radaway. The train doesnt stop there, you can further use those two perks to dilute the radaway, making it half as effective, but potentially quadrupling your results. (From a non-perk standpoint, based on the x2 for normally crafting diluted radaway, multiplied by 2 for chemist, and then a 30% chance to be doubled again, depending on your level of the "super duper" perk.) Also, theres usually a boss Snallygaster that spawns there, sometimes legendary, as well as a few leveled enemies. Other notable loot is 1-8 radaway, 1-3 hazmat suits and 2-3 damaged hazmat suits, making this a very okay place to farm for general things. #3.) There are actually 2 mutation related perks. One is "Class freak", maxed out it reduces mutation penalties by 75%, which is a must have for anyone doing a build off of mutations. The other is "Strange in Numbers" and it boosts positive effects of mutations by 25%. These are two very important perks, for two reasons. 1, for general gameplay, they help even if your team isnt built around mutations, or teamwork. But, if you have 4 people, at max mutations, you can make some serious work out of these 2 simple perks, and the best part is, only 2 people really need to have them. The empath mutation as well as the hard mentality really play into the teamwork phase, but suck when you're solo, however, if all 4 people have the empath mutation, it is theoretically possible to take no damage, and here's why. Empath makes you take 33% more damage, while reducing your team's damage recieved by 25%. To start it off, if you have the class freak perk, this effect can be reduced to 8.25% (or 1/4) of it's original value. If your team consists of 4 members, this gets even better. With the strange in numbers perk, positive mutations are increased by 25% making the damage reduction 31.25%. Stacking the empath mutation, plus Class Freak and Strange in Numbers will yield you a damage reduction of 85.5%, meaning you'd only receive 14.5% of all the damage you normally would take, even with the 8.25% damage increase (if you have the class freak perk or its shared by your group, and you have the strange in numbers, or its shared.) I am unsure if this extends to radiation damage, but it works on all other forms, for instance, if someone hit you with a gun for 100 damage, you would only take 14.5 points of damage. With armor, you can potentially negate almost all incoming damage (depending on how hard the enemy hits and the armor you're wearing)

I have found your way to be much faster and having better chances of getting a mutation I don’t die from it tho I just take my starched genes off and back on before leaving the game when I mutate. Thank you!!
@@xero1782 You can lose your mutations if you use rad away. i just accidentally got rid of speed demon by using a diluted rad away because half my health bar had become rads and i didn't have the regen mutation so i was basically fighting with half health all the time. really sucks because speed demon is one of the few mutations that don't have a negative effect.
Raynedog00 just so you know speed demon does have a negative side it just doesn’t show it. When you are running around, your hunger and thirst goes by faster than it would without the mutation. I have had speed demon and I could hardly notice the difference but letting you know just in case
I wish that when you get a mutation, depending on which one you have it would change your character's appearance like if you had the talons mutation, your character would have talons.
All am trying to do is get all of the mutations that have no disadvantages, there are exceptions due to my play style (I don’t use energy weapons, so ya grounded is great)
With speed demon, it actually does have a negative effect that only flashes briefly if you access your pip boy while sprinting in power armor or have your pip boy on the "clear" mode. 50% faster health and hunger depletion. Which I suspect may only apply while you're moving as the only time it shows is the tiny frame as you're sprinting while the pip is pulled up.
Awesome guide, thanks, and very nice to know about the timer for getting the next mutation! And hadn't researched it, I just assumed you could only have 1 mutation, so that's very nice to know too 😁👍 Thanks again!!
The mutations are the biggest reason I still play this game. It really does make you a super hero. I only have speed demon right now, but once I level up more and can get that perk I am going to try and get more.
Best thing and my personal opinion and a tip...Guys get caps get caps best thing to do is buy mutation serums that you need or like. What i do is I change my genes perk when ever i want to get rid of rads like this you are not wasting perk points. If by accident you do get rid of your mutations this is why buying recipes for your serum is a must like this you always have the mutation and they cost nothing to make at your chemistry station. Caps are the easiest thing to get within this game. Serums are costly 22,000 caps but trust me it's worth it.
You also need “Class Freak” that negates 75% of the negative effects. Having “Strangeness in Numbers” also boosts positive mutation effects for having mutated teammates. Side note if you end up with Herbivore make sure to use the Green Thumb to collect flowers and veggies twice as fast since all meat based (including the xp stews) won’t fill hunger Except for cannibal perk.
if im not mistaken, having the class freak perk on with scaly skin is the reason i have infinite sprinting AP. i can literally run from fissure site prime to vault 76 and never stop, even with jumping. i assume its because the game is trying to lower your AP beyond a point it can't since class freak makes the reduction from -50 to like -13 so you never hit 0. might be patched out on the 4th of december, try getting it. super fun with marsupial and speed demon
This happens to me too I love it I run across the map I parkour the mountains is just fucking great game when I fight I jump while reloading I'm like a fucking xmen up in that bitch I'll take some monsters out fas like wolverine and then just heal lmaoo
@@TripleSLeague there is a way better method where you get a mutation each time 100% and you dont have to clear your rads between the mutations...but you need to serverhop or wait some time between them
i got tired of getting screwed by trying to get rid of empath while losing perks i wanted so i just spent 12k getting serums from whitespring bunker. Tried player vendors and none of them were selling any.
Since you borderline have all the mutations could you test if the legendary "mutant's" effect increases incrementally towards how many More mutations you have?
Nah, it is a flat 10%. Underwhelming but an extra 180% damage would have been massively imbalanced. The only effects that scales I believe is Plague Walker (which is a mutation that scales with diseases), Adlerian Reaction + Bloody (which increases damage the lower your health) and Junkies (which is a legendary effect that scales with addictions).
for those farming mutations please be aware of the following bugs. Anything that changes charisma renders sharing perks useless. unless you wanna stay still forever. (herd mentality or any bonus/negative to charisma) empath is also bugged as well. class freak doesn't work on it properly. electrically charged and unstable isotope actually has a hidden effect, it adds hp to your total health pool (this is getting patched dec 4th). i'd avoid herd mentality and empath until beth fixes how these particular mutations work.
@@marksern all serums are a waste of money atm since all serums have a chance to get bugged (i believe OP stated in video already). but good point out. I completely forgot about serums as they are just a waste of money since you can farm all mutations, then start taking the ones you don't need away but re-adding the ones you lose that you want to keep. i do admit it's a huge pain as it took about 2 hours just to get rid of herd mentality (but i got rid of empath as well in the process but also loss plague walker =\)
@@DonneDiscordia As marksern said. Serums are useful when you don't want a lot of mutations and can farm caps you just can't combine them with herbivore/carnivore (but then why would I want either of those really?). Where is the info re herd mentality as I've had no problems sharing in group with that on PC?
@@remmyremarius8889 it's all over reddit. it's not just herd mentality however. it's anything that decreases or increases charisma. HOWEVER, at some point i did have it working with herd mentality until one day it didn't. idk what to say there, it just stopped sharing perks when ever i moved. Herbivore/carnivore allows you to eat spoiled food and not catch any diseases from it. so it's a very useful mutation. to add onto that, many reports of the serums not working as "intended" as they will come, and then your mutation will disappear. some have reported that it doesn't even take away the negative effects (could be just a graphical glitch where it does but doesn't state). they're also reports of the serums not working at all either. i could of bought two serums at this point in my playthroughs, but even with server hopping, 2 hours of getting rid of herd mentality and empathy was a lot less time then it would take to get the 6.5kish caps for two serums.
I accidentally used a marsupial serum... I was very upset that I wasn't prepped for this. However, I was able to level up within the hour of it going away and got my starched genes to level 2! Woohoo!
I just got all the mutations and tried to get rid of the ones I didn’t like by using Radaway. The decontamination showers take away like 3 mutations when you can just take out one at a time with Radaway. Took me a while but I finally got the 2 mutations I didn’t want off and keeps all the good ones.
you are not supposed to have all mutations as they often cancel each other out and require 3 more points then needed it luck so you can skill the class freak perk because otherwhise the negatives would be too strong. for example bird bones and edd head are full negatives if you use power armor and twisted muscle should only be used for meele builds. healing factor is also a negative if you dont have alot of hp/endurance points because it heals less hp the lesser hp you have. scaly skin should not be used by any sneaky/sniper build as you need the ap to aim and run from danger. ideally you get 2 mutations that fit your build and then maybe get a 3rd one by buying a specific mutation at the enclave hq. dont just mindlessly get ALL mutations as it weakens your character.
But remember you can get that perk that reduces the negative effects by 75%. So things that take away like -3 strength or whatever will be reduced to -1. Same with the accuracy penalties and stuff. The mutations would cancel out the negative effects eventually
Have you even tried doing it I have a lvl 68 character with 17 mutations and with class freak it practically negates all of it like healing factor chem reduction will reduce to 13% that's nothing lol I'm doing a full mutated sneak rifle build I'll let you know how it goes
@@AsapYeyo the point is that 80% of the mutations wont offer your build an improvement AT ALL and ONLY have negative effects. Even if class freak would be 90% negative reduced its still negative. you get a -13 str debuff wich still is -3 with full class freak perk. all positive effects of the mutations that have -str as a negative are completely useless for power armor builds that use heavy weapons like gatlings. Twisted muscles is also a pure negative even with the class freak perk. The unstable isotope mutation can harm friendly players or npcs making you wanted or getting red to whitespring robots and does not enough damage to be useful in combat. and adrenaline reaction is only really useful for stealth builds that let their hp drop low on purpose to boost their sneak crits as you normally stimpack the moment you get to 40% hp. Speed Demon is the only mutation i would consider good for all builds unless its one were you have severe weight problems and have problems with food/drinks. and dont forget that the -3 skillpoints that you need for class freak is also a negative that doesent get reduced at all, wich could be used for strong 3p perks like Blocker or Sun Kissed or One Gun Army
@@strawberry-parfait3922 lol like I said try it before you try to talk bad about it twisted muscles gives you 50% melee and chance to cripple and the unstable isotope does not affect other player has is only activated and o ly hits enemies that hit you the knee that gives you 25% more critical I use vats with my mutated character all the time I have like 250 carry weight playing alone and I get like 10 or 15 more when I'm in a party all on saying is once you have class freak all those negative effects are nothing

I got healing factor at around lvl 52 during a nuke, the 55% reduction in chems also effects radaway and stimpacks. I had about 30 radaway and 20 diluted when I entered and left with none.
if u have a crap ton of radaway i would recommend using the abandoned mineshaft 1 the vent there gives u over 100 rads per sec so youll be full with rads in an instant the method shown is also rly good tho
Thank you for this video. I'm new to the game and I got Scaly skin very early on (I explore a lot and got radiated while doing it). I was sad when I had to decon and lost scaly skin. I guess my only concern is getting mutations that I don't want and losing the ones that I do....especially if you're farming them.
Got super lucky on my character, was level 20ish when I farmed mutations. Got herbivore, healing factor, speed demon, marsupial, and unstable isotope. Then I bought twisted muscles and just got scaly skin today on accident. I plan on making my guy a melee build so I'm gonna have to replace carnivore but I don't see myself doing that for a while.
My understanding is that you can buy mutation potions from the Enclave that will give you all the benefits of the mutation but none of the negatives, so you don't have to buy the perk to reduce side effects. Have you looked into them yet? (I haven't tried it yet because they're very expensive and I need to get the 10k caps achievement before I start buying expensive things.)
@malataur It still gives you the negatives. It gives you a temporarily effect that reduces the negatives for a short period of time. It's like 1 hour. Then the mutation act like the regular versions.
Spend the Caps if you want because even of you spend caps the Achivment takes note on the amount of Caps you've had since the beggining reguardless if you spent them, thou i would rack up as many caps as possible so you'll be able to purchase anything at anytime plus your caps total will look pretty.
The way they worded it, "Possess 10,000 Caps", makes me not trust them. If they'd said "collect" or "earn" or something, I'd say cool. Only 2.51% of the people have this achievement so far, so I'm going to play it cautious just in case. Thanks though.
@@malataur I got that achievement despite having less than 1k caps, so pretty sure it's like the New Vegas Challenges where it's the caps you've been in possession of, not what you currently possess.

Guys, I've heard if you take a serum while already mutated with that gene, you can mitigate it and remove it. I'm not 100% sure and I'll run some tests with marsupial but you might be able to control it.
A guide i would like more than this one is tips for how to remove unwanted mutations. Basically any insight on how the mechanics work that choose what mutation you lose.
I have had twisted muscles 2 different times, and each time was different. The first time was like what you showed. The second time it only had a negative condition, no positive one.
You can still farm for mutations at any level, it'll just be harder for anyone under level 30. Dying will remove a percentage of your rads. And make sure you take off any armor you have on.
I plan to get all the mutations without downsides so i can just get starched genes and have the equivalent to perks • Electric charge • plague walker • chameleon • unstable isotope I heard that speed demon increases hunger and thirst rates
I'm level 15 with no rads at full health with 3 mutations, 2 grape nukacola takes all rads away but not the mutations. Works good for us low level players.
Get the mine shelter from the atom shop it has a fountain of mutation in the back. A pool of dirty water you have to go do other things for a hour or so then radaway. I'm talking early game before you have all the flux to build a decontamination arch much less the plans for it. I'm 160 still havent managed the flux for it.
Wondered why after I got one and rid it, it took so long to get another. Thanks for that info, I had just put off trying again due to time restrictions.
The best way I saw for getting mutations is shooting the assaultron head. By the 5th or 7th shot I got a mutation(Don’t quote me on that). Just make sure you don’t shot it with more than 5 ammo in the thing because you will end up using up all your energy ammo to fix this I just stored all my fusion cells but kept one and I shot the thing and the weapon should begin working properly once you get your fusion cells back
Dang I was looking forward to doing this but I don’t have enough luck points to have the 2 perk cards you mentioned in the video leveled up and I’m past level 50 which means no more points... I would’ve changed my build around a bit but I didn’t know that you stop getting points at 50 until I was already about 20-30 levels in. Oh well I’ll have to try this on a future character.

@@xero1782 radaway
I wish that when you get a mutation, depending on which one you have it would change your character's appearance like if you had the talons mutation, your character would have talons.
Twisted Muscles first go at it and I'm a 2 handed Melee build. You are the man
Death claw, or miner gauntlet build with twisted and talons for me LMAO
All am trying to do is get all of the mutations that have no disadvantages, there are exceptions due to my play style (I don’t use energy weapons, so ya grounded is great)
“Nice healthy dose of radiation” nearly dies
Might go for a Carnivore Mutation with Cannible and Lead Belly. An epic feast after an epic battle sounds appetizing.
Exactly. The notes for it say that you have 50% faster food and water loss while moving.
Awesome guide, thanks, and very nice to know about the timer for getting the next mutation! And hadn't researched it, I just assumed you could only have 1 mutation, so that's very nice to know too 😁👍 Thanks again!!
Just started playing 76 and im hooked, 2 years later and your vid is still helping ,thanx 👍
Me too
The mutations are the biggest reason I still play this game. It really does make you a super hero. I only have speed demon right now, but once I level up more and can get that perk I am going to try and get more.
Tommorow ima see super humens flying in the air and withstanding a nuclear exposion without armor
Yup, that's me, your probably wondering how I got in this situation.
There's a mod for that
Best thing and my personal opinion and a tip...Guys get caps get caps best thing to do is buy mutation serums that you need or like.
As of March 24th, 2019, can confirm it does still work.
@Split Dimension does ot really still work
@Split Dimension thanks it worked
Does this still work?
if anyone is watching in 2020 hope you have a good day and also the scrappers are there now
They’ve updated the game, less bugs now
You also need “Class Freak” that negates 75% of the negative effects.
Glad I got cannibal lol
Thanks for the informative vid. I got Marsupial on my first go! You rock!
if im not mistaken, having the class freak perk on with scaly skin is the reason i have infinite sprinting AP. i can literally run from fissure site prime to vault 76 and never stop, even with jumping. i assume its because the game is trying to lower your AP beyond a point it can't since class freak makes the reduction from -50 to like -13 so you never hit 0. might be patched out on the 4th of december, try getting it. super fun with marsupial and speed demon
Interesting...probably a bug, but enjoy it while it lasts!
This happens to me too I love it I run across the map I parkour the mountains is just fucking great game when I fight I jump while reloading I'm like a fucking xmen up in that bitch I'll take some monsters out fas like wolverine and then just heal lmaoo
I used a mine, but your location is much quicker! Thanks for the video.
You're welcome!

A nice healthy dose of radiation, ah I love the smell of rads in the morning
i got tired of getting screwed by trying to get rid of empath while losing perks i wanted so i just spent 12k getting serums from whitespring bunker. Tried player vendors and none of them were selling any.
Since you borderline have all the mutations could you test if the legendary "mutant's" effect increases incrementally towards how many More mutations you have?
I can try. I'll report back if I find anything!
Best guide I’ve seen for this thank you
for those farming mutations please be aware of the following bugs.
Anything that changes charisma renders sharing perks useless. unless you wanna stay still forever. (herd mentality or any bonus/negative to charisma)
empath is also bugged as well. class freak doesn't work on it properly.
electrically charged and unstable isotope actually has a hidden effect, it adds hp to your total health pool (this is getting patched dec 4th).
i'd avoid herd mentality and empath until beth fixes how these particular mutations work.
herbivore and canrivore also bugs serums so you can get mutations from serums
@@marksern all serums are a waste of money atm since all serums have a chance to get bugged (i believe OP stated in video already). but good point out. I completely forgot about serums as they are just a waste of money since you can farm all mutations, then start taking the ones you don't need away but re-adding the ones you lose that you want to keep. i do admit it's a huge pain as it took about 2 hours just to get rid of herd mentality (but i got rid of empath as well in the process but also loss plague walker =\)
@@DonneDiscordia no chance of it getting bugged if you don't have herbivore or carnivore*
Woohoo!
Lol that’s some badass mutations. Can’t wait to get some later on!
Ive been using speed demon. Pretty good didn't know you could have more then one at a time
Major tip. Pay to get carnivore upfront. That way you never have herbivore. Carnivore is much better. Glowing steaks are great.
@@strawberry-parfait3922 lol you know nothing g jonh snow like you said minutes 3 strength with classy freak I dont meses strength when I do 50 melee damage marsupial gives 20 extra carry weight
Or have the red sponge perk, have a buddy with it and both of you sit in some water... solves the problem of taking care of rads. Especially when you get the healing factor mutation
Yeah but you'll have you wait till LV. 44 to get that perk

Speed Demon is the first mutation I received. Going to have to use class freak to really reduce the negative effects for other mutations. I may have to respec to allocate more points to luck for it though.
Scorpius you cant respec though
@@lucasurban194 Bethesda said they will add the respec feature at a later date. "After level 50, you'll be able to choose between a new perk card, or move a special point you had previously allocated".

I think i saw that respec is coming in two weeks, but cant remember where i read that to give a link
Does Speed Demon seriously not have a downside... LIke wtf, lol
Bird bones to me is irrelevant since power armor negates all fall damage. At the cost of -4 STR is way to much just for higher jumping.
Bird bones doesnt give you higher jumping, it allows longer falling
SobeCrunkMonster still though i would choose power armor no fall damage at any height and you get +2 strength in it.
Bird bones is most beneficial with a jet pack. The slowed falling speed allows you to pulse the jet pack and travel farther than without it.
if you go on down the passage and turn right, I saw a level 91 iradiated legendary deathclaw
Im running a Superman build I currently have 10 mutations used the miners camp and I have the freakish card maxed to avoid the negative effects.
Borntobethevillain is the freakish card still in the game
Thank you for this video. I'm new to the game and I got Scaly skin very early on (I explore a lot and got radiated while doing it). I was sad when I had to decon and lost scaly skin. I guess my only concern is getting mutations that I don't want and losing the ones that I do....especially if you're farming them.
I wanna make a valid point once your in don't go down the tunnels there's a really bad deathclaw
which level?
Got super lucky on my character, was level 20ish when I farmed mutations. Got herbivore, healing factor, speed demon, marsupial, and unstable isotope. Then I bought twisted muscles and just got scaly skin today on accident. I plan on making my guy a melee build so I'm gonna have to replace carnivore but I don't see myself doing that for a while.
Thank you, you have no idea how long it took just to get the mutations I have but with this I'll be able to get them all in no time
Just got to 31. Giving this a try. I play melee 2x I had melee mutations and forgot to equip my perk again before taking a shower. I'm so dumb
F
My understanding is that you can buy mutation potions from the Enclave that will give you all the benefits of the mutation but none of the negatives, so you don't have to buy the perk to reduce side effects. Have you looked into them yet? (I haven't tried it yet because they're very expensive and I need to get the 10k caps achievement before I start buying expensive things.)
@malataur It still gives you the negatives. It gives you a temporarily effect that reduces the negatives for a short period of time. It's like 1 hour. Then the mutation act like the regular versions.
Oh, well that's definitely not worth it then. Thanks.

You can add in strange in numbers card to increase the effect of mutations also.
Guys, I've heard if you take a serum while already mutated with that gene, you can mitigate it and remove it. I'm not 100% sure and I'll run some tests with marsupial but you might be able to control it.
There is a power armor to the right of those barrels and a fusion core. Might as well get those while farming mutations.

Got to keep this list to hand. I got rid of the plague walker mutation as soon as it came, its name was enough to scare me.
“A nice healthy dose of radiation”
Thanks for being straightforward, easy…
I have had twisted muscles 2 different times, and each time was different. The first time was like what you showed. The second time it only had a negative condition, no positive one.
that's just a bug the game has trouble remembering the stats of mutations
You can still farm for mutations at any level, it'll just be harder for anyone under level 30. Dying will remove a percentage of your rads. And make sure you take off any armor you have on.
I plan to get all the mutations without downsides so i can just get starched genes and have the equivalent to perks

• plague walker
• chameleon
• unstable isotope

The best way I saw for getting mutations is shooting the assaultron head. By the 5th or 7th shot I got a mutation(Don’t quote me on that). Just make sure you don’t shot it with more than 5 ammo in the thing because you will end up using up all your energy ammo to fix this I just stored all my fusion cells but kept one and I shot the thing and the weapon should begin working properly once you get your fusion cells back
Bird bones plus marsupial, become the flying nun
Thanks dude, I got marsupial while clearing the yard, nice.
why does your fallout 76 look so good and run so smooth
Dang I was looking forward to doing this but I don’t have enough luck points to have the 2 perk cards you mentioned in the video leveled up and I’m past level 50 which means no more points... I would’ve changed my build around a bit but I didn’t know that you stop getting points at 50 until I was already about 20-30 levels in. Oh well I’ll have to try this on a future character.
Repecing comes out in like a week, but it's 1 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. per level up or a perk card.
Luck is super useful, 6 points at least IMO. It also affects loot drops and quality/durability of those items
I got to lvl 30 but I don’t see starched genes anywhere
I think you have to be lvl 31 and it will appear in the Luck skill tree
