@@bobgunner3086 not if another dog is closer to it's breed's written standard than the best golden is to that standard. It has nothing to do with how pretty/sweet the dog or breed is, and everything to do with which dog has the fewest deviations from their breed's written standard.
My Goldie wins Best in Show EVERYDAY at my house! I love my boy, and I don't care what they win or don't win. I win everyday because he is such an awesome buddy!!

They probably used a mighty wind and a stand dryer and brushed everywhere I know this because I work as a dog groomer and we work on dog show dogs but they probably do more than what we do.
Love how Daniel never takes his eyes off his handler's face after the win. He wants nothing other than to share the moment with his friend. "Are the stars out tonight? I don't care if its cloudy or bright. I only have eyes for you. I don't know if we're in a garden or on a crowded avenue.....and I only have eyes for you"

They are truly the greatest dog in the world. I have now owned 2 pureblood AKC golden retrievers and I raised them from little puppies. I will never own anything else but a golden. They are tough and protective of their family but also soft and gentle with children.
I just lost mine at 12 years old, he was everything I could have asked for and a million times more, we bonded when met at 8 wks old. I can barely write now but people don't know what they are missing, truly the most amazing, loving, sweet, smart.... And I could go on and on 🥰

@@kaitlyne1870 I meant fancy dogs, such as poodles and shih tzus, etc. This is my opinion, I'd rather see a golden retriever, Great Pyrenees, Malamute, German Shepherd win since these are the type of dogs I grew up with. If the dog normally wears a bow or needs hairspray that's not my type of dog.
@@kikia6611 German Shepherds have won a few times as well as breeds like Dobermans, huskies and pointers (I know you didn't mention those, but they're a similar type of breed). I don't think Shih Tzus have ever won. It's usually terriers and gun dogs.
Goldens are the sweetest dog in my book. I had a pleasure of owning one for over 10 years. Unfortunately, he suddenly passed away. It'll be two years this April, I still miss him every single day. My dog walker had a Golden too and she's told me that she'd owned different dog breeds in her lifetime. But Goldens will always have a special place in her. I love all dogs, but there's just something about this breed. I love you Tony Bear. Missing you every single day. Wish to God that you're still here with me.
Finally! I stopped watching the Westminster show because two of the most popular dogs, the retriever and labrador have consistently been overlooked. I was so happy to see the win. Perhaps some day to win the final title.
They aren't overlooked, they're over bred. They've been so popular as pets for so long that they aren't bred as closely to their breed standard anymore. Especially personality wise! And, as one handler/owner pointed out, they have such a "pet" personality that they don't do as well with all the traveling and that effects their performance. It has nothing to do with the judge's breed preference (as much as anyone can avoid bias) and everything to do with how closely the dog fits the breed standard. Goldens are wonderful, beautiful dogs! Just not great at showing.

I'm allergic to dogs but one of best friends - Willy the golden ( who sadly passed away last year ) was just the kindest loving friend. Willy cheered me up after my back surgery and I didn't know if I would ever use my foot again. There should be an additional category for love in this show . When Daniel hugged her , I mean what more do the judges want .

They all represented their breeds perfectly but overall the judge was looking for what dog looked the most like their respective breed standards and Daniel represented the golden retriever standard perfectly.
My last Goldie made it to 16. Been 10 years since she left this world and since I've had a dog. In 3 weeks I get another Goldie. Can't wait. Another fur-ever friend entering life again finally. Different first name. Same middle name in honor. Goldies rule. Great video.
Good! All the sad people missing their dogs in the comments know the simple answer... Puppy! I have had a dog every day of my life, so when my cocker spaniel Buddy was starting to have some bad days last year. That's when I started looking for that perfect bandaid to fix my heart. I adore my golden retriever Violet! Training has been wonderful, after 6 months there is so much more to teach her and fun to be had. Typing this as she is snuggling with me :)

I have two Golden's, they are just full of love and all they want to do is to make you happy. I did 1 show with my Golden, all political . We did obedience shows won hands down.
I am so happy that Daniel the so beautiful Golden Retriever had won best in show and I grew up having a golden Retriever and her name was Lizzy , now I have another golden Retriever named Lilly and my opinion the golden Retriever is the world's awesome breed of dogs . Daniel really captured my heart with joy and love !!! Golden retrievers are wonderful family dogs and even melts your heart with love with loving , adoring eyes !! Golden Retrievers are so beautiful , so loving and very graceful when running and they also love to swim as well .
@@debsreno911 last time a standard poodle won was 1991. And there was a pretty big gap between that one and the one before it. Only 10 poodles (including miniature and toy) have won in total. In over 100 years! The wire fox terrier actually seems to do the best.
@@AnonningAnon only 10 poodles (of any size, so even fewer standards) and 4 boxers have won. The last time a standard poodle won was 1991 and the last boxer was 1970. I don't see how that makes them the most likely candidates to win. I also don't see how wire fox terriers are "rich people dogs". They're Scrappy little working dogs who hate being pampered and will find their own job if not assigned one. In fact, I see a lot more rich people with golden retrievers than any of the breeds that actually do win often.

They're to plain, they don't have anything crazy for the judges to focus on so they end up nitpicking. Happens all the time.

A dog's popularity doesn't dictate whether then win or not. A majority of labs and goldens don't fit the standard.
