In my opinion, DPT is one of the softest doctorate degrees. The return on investment is abysmal. Other professions such as PA, RN, and NP show a much better return on investment. In each of these professions I would spend less time in school, accrue less debt, and often make more money once I finish my education. Pharmacy went from a Bachelors, to a Masters, to a PhD because the salaries dictated that they advance the academic degree within the profession. I believe the APTA is one of the most worthless professional organizations. The APTA, in their infinite wisdom, pushed to increase the academic requirements when the salaries did not support such an increase. Just because one calls themselves a “Doctor” does not mean they consequently will pay more money.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on a 2 year PTA program vs a 2 year DPT program as far as actual education goes. Besides a DPT needing to know how to perform a IE, how does it make sense the same PTA program is like 15k tops vs about $200k when knowledge b/w the 2 isn't that much different.

As far as I know , working PRN in Arizona for home care ( not as a contractor or travel PT but as a regular employee ) most agencies will pay you about 70-80 dollars for evals/follow up visits ....and $ 90-100 for OASIS visits.Some have started cutting down on those amounts too and paying even less . I do not know of anyone making $140 -180 for OASIS at this point in time . Are your numbers for contractors mostly ? Not sure where you get numbers as high as that .
00301200 my course members in arizona are making that as well, the numbers come from over hundreds of offers i’ve reviewed and I have a few students in AZ on 120k plus salary - you may just be low balling yourself or talking to the wrong agencies
My final clinical offered me a job at 60k (outpatient)...I turned it down bc that’s insulting and now that I’m graduated and starting to search for jobs I find myself thinking that I should have accepted the offer just to have a safety net. Thanks for the reality check, I needed it 😅
Let’s also figure if the insurance companies only reimburse a certain amount your employer can only pay you so much . Number 2 you are not considering the benefits that are not included in this hourly pay which can be up to 30%.
I understand reimbursement has been declining and benefits cost employers money - but I also understand the time spent in school and the cost for a decent ROI which is why I recommend med part A settings, cash pay, or travel (if the market comes back) to hit the ground making 2x or more the amount of classmates at graduation or coworkers from some of the jobs i mentioned. Remember i want people to get paid as high as possible so they can then fund their own business or side projects, quit their jobs if they want or just do something else and not feel trapped but they need capital first

I’d please like to know your perspective on Elementary School PTs? Typically lower salary, however we get Summers off + winter/spring break. So lifestyle wise, it’s great. The salary accounts for 9 months of work out of the year btw. Thanks!!
one of my coaching clients is creating a course on how to get paid well as a school PT right now. School PT is great pay wise if you contract yourself out or do travel you can easily clear six figures in 9 months. All comes down to how you set up your employment with the school - and your negotiating during the interview process. Do not think because you are a school PT that = you do not get paid well. As far as lifestyle it’s not as great as HH where you make your own schedule but the months off probably make up for that. Also depends on your end goal - lots of factors at play.

Jason Hubeny you can actually make a lot of money like 1800 plus a week in schools as a traveler - this is the best way to go to get paid well in peds and school systems in general especially if you transfer over from being a traveler

What are your thoughts on how more experienced PTs can leverage increasing salary? As a new grad, it's great knowing that I shouldn't get low balled bc I can generate the same amount of charges as a veteran PT, but thinking of the future when I become experienced, obviously I don't want to stay at the same rate but now that argument works against higher pay for experienced PTs. If I'm not interested in home health, do you think just getting into teaching or management is the way to go then as an experienced PT to keep the salary bumping up? I've explored non-clinical roles a bit but I definitely want to keep working with patients for now. Jw your thoughts. Also, I live near Laguna Niguel so I died when I saw your comments on that posting bc I definitely saw a few like that around here during my actual job search 😂
Jessica Phung in PT you will be capped at the same company relatively close to what you you start at, unless you own the company - even moving up they won’t pay you much more - the best bet is to leave your job for a different company that is offering more money - this is why i advise everyone start as high as they can as it can easily be an extra million or so in lifetime earnings
fox rehab is trash and not true home health / search the HH mentor facebook group to confirm this as well. They are OP in the home masquerading as HH when you can work half as much and make twice as much at a legit part A HH Agency
Dont really like home health which is why I'm doing Travel Work first, and then I am going to open a cash based business with that money. I'm not going to work for chump change in a covid environment.

I was an OP traveler for a bit pre covid and i always say HH, SNF, Travel OP or cash pay to anyone looking to get paid well so they can have enough capital to do their own thing and reach financial independence faster

I am being contacted by staffing agencies daily but the pay they are offering is terrible.
Kaitlyn Guillot yes you always want to go direct - though if you want to get some quick experience a staffing company can work for short term but don’t sign a non compete etc - always go direct so you’re using one emr and dealing with one employer

Would you say nursing is better to get into that rehab like SLP?
SLP is actually a good field as well as nursing. However if you're going SLP just go PA IMHO. But RN is quick and high ROI.
