crown royal casey daly ! i loved it when they burned caprice blaze as Joan of Ark to the 1812 overture! I played second clarinet on the field and marching band and concert season. im in this Santa Monica parade. For sure thanks! So Good!
I JUST stumbled upon this video by way of Facebook!!! And John Tobias--you are ABSOLUTELY 100000% correct as to your comments above. My big brother marched at PHS from 70-73 and I was the little brother following him around. He led the way for me--I ended up there, and still have a career in the marching arts today, drill designer, judge, clinician, former DM for the Velvet Knights out of Anaheim....thank you for your comments!! RICH So Cal history!!
WOW, back when students took their horns home and practiced. This is impressive sound from a high school band. amazing how most students are actually playing their parts and it sounds AWESOME
I was at Loara from 1963-66. Wonderful years, and I have always wished I could have been in the band. Made some great friends there though. Going to the Sports arena to wait for the final results of All Western was one of the best nights of the year. Several years later I'd get to officiate at All Western as a member of LBJCB. But once a Saxon, always a Saxon.
Same here, Ken. I wasn’t a member of the band but I had friends from the class of ‘67 and ‘68 who were. I wish they had cell phones back then because I didn’t recognize any of them - the quality of the films were so poor. 😢
wow! so great-nothing like the saxon band and the valkeyries in all their courtly splendor! Does ANYBODY out there have a copy of the show from 1969...joan of arc, light cavalry overture,etc,AND/OR THEIR STREET PERFORMANCE FROM THE SAME YEAR PLAYING WASHINGTON GRAYS????? i WISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the late 60's to the mid-70's, there were an handful of bands which could, on any given weekend, come in a GRAB THE SWEEPSTAKES AWARD...And, Loara was one among the "handful", which also included Pasadena & Glendora. Katella, Mt. Migue & Anaheiml might have been close, and if Arcadia had ANY talent of the halttime field, it might have contended, too...But, among well-rounded musically-outstanding bands, the BIG THREE of their day were (in alphabetical order) Glendora, Loara and Pasadena.
