It was Jackson Brownes song. Glen Frey begged Browne for the song because Browne wasn’t going to finish it in time, for his first solo album. Browne finally relented, and let Frey finish it. The Eagles released it it in 72. Browne put it on his album in 73. Browne lived below Frey in the early 70s. Frey use to hear Browne practicing and playing. He said Browne was an inspiration as they were both aspiring writers. The song “Take It Easy” never happens without Jackson Browne. Mr Browne, thank you for a song that launched the Eagles.

How many times has this hit song been allowed to breathe right into "Our Lady of the Well" on stage? This is a magical album-nostalgia moment for true Browne devotees who have always been privileged enough to fall directly into the depths of Jackson's soul straight from his most raucous road trippin' song.
I have no idea why, but everytime I have heard this song, which is in the thousands at least, all I can think about is America, small towns, boys in flanel shirts and pickups, and pretty girls.....

In these crazy days, I'm listening to as much Jackson Browne as I can. I always feel calmed, certain that there's good in the world, and a motivation to help others get to that place as well. Thank you Jackson Browne and wonderful backup band. All are masterful musicians. I'll be heading out for appointments this AM and I'm doing it feeling happy and I definitely will be taking it easy.

I remember being at a friend's house and we listened to 2 albums that day. Bob Dylan Slow Train Coming and Jackson Browne Late for the Sky. We were 17 and Jackson was 18 when he wrote it. I couldn't get over an 18 year old boy could write something like that. Something about hearing an artist for the first time. It stays with your whole life .
OMG - I'm in tears! I've never seen this live performance of Jackson's most famous song (a nod to co-writer Glenn Frey, RIP). But to segue into "Our Lady of the Well" was a total surprise. Every time I hear Take It Easy, I long to hear the segue right into Our Lady on Jackson's euphonious 1973 "For Everyman" album. And I couldn't be happier. UPDATE: The ONLY thing this performance is missing is the amazing steel guitar work of one Mr. David Lindley. Truly made JB and many, many others sound even better.
Totally agree. Love this segue, and it's one reason I tend to dislike the Eagles version, or at least much prefer Jackson's. Aside from that, this live treatment of 'Our Lady' is heart-breaking, shattering, perfectly executed by all. OMG indeed!
agree in total, except ... the sublime Mr Dave didn't play pedal steel on these tracks (or any other). that tremendous work was done by Sneaky Pete Kleinow (RIP). masterfully incorporated here by Greg Leisz, while still infusing his own incredible sense of melody and harmony. a gem of a performance all around.

Huge Eagles and Jackson Browne fan. I’ve always preferred the Eagles version of Take It Easy (slightly), but if it weren’t for JB, the song would never have been written in the first place. He’s an amazing artist.
Bernie's banjo in double time makes the Eagles' version great, but the peddle-steel guitar in Jackson's version is perfect. Makes me wish I were a junior in high school again.
Jackson Brownes' first record might have been, SATURATED WHEN WET. These classics he wrote for his album. In 1972, I saw him play with Bonnie Raitt sitting off the stage swinging a bottle of wine and Browne was behind the piano telling us his wife made the shirt he was wearing. It was at the Capital Theater in Passaic, NJ in 1972. I was 15 and my dad allowed me to go out with an older college guy. 1972 summer was Roosevelt Stadium in JC, NJ. Band played at 3AM, great amphitheater acoustics in round half circle seating. BEST EYES OF THE WORLD, 3 hrs, hands down. Roosevelt Stadium, Capital Theater should be an historical landmark today - forget about the r 'n r museum, who didn't play the Capital Theater in Passaic, NJ? 5 yrs ago I was in Winslow AZ for a couple days and of course every shop in town was playing this song. Later in the night I popped into the lounge of the hotel I was staying at and this song started playing. An elderly woman asked why this song kept playing everywhere. I explained to her that the eagles put Winslow on the map with this song .I then told her Jackson Browne co-wrote the song and I liked his version better. The whole place went silent and the bar tender came over and asked me to pay my tab and leave before the locals dragged me out. Other than that there's not much in Winslow.
Jackson Browne - what can be said that hasn't already been said so many times before and much better than I could express what his music means to me and to countless others - that being said - I miss Jeff Young - I miss David Lindley - David whose talent defined so much of Jackson's early catalogue of great music - and the interplay between Greg Leisz and Val McCallum - for those who know - what more needs to be said - I'm just so glad I had Jackson's music be apart of my life these last 50 years - and the way Take It Easy blends into Our Lady of the Well - absolutely perfect - Thanks you Jackson - the soundtrack of my life

There's nothing like hearing someone do this song live (Including the post-Hotel California tour Eagles) to remind you just how great Randy Meisner's harmony vocals were when the Eagles played it in the 70's.
Jeff Young (who is singing BV's here) is an incredible singer. My guess is that the monitoring isn't great. But of course, no one can touch Meisner or the Eagle's harmonies in general.
@@davidmurray2539 In Don Felder's book he speaks to what you're saying when he recalls how Don Henley would push & push & push until they got EVERY SINGLE LITTLE kink out of a track before they pressed a song. That meant a lot of very inspired, though rough, performances ended up on the cutting room floor.

What a beautiful seamless performance of his incredible music. And the slide guitar and organ are simply cherries on the sundae. Letterman’s response says it all. He always said that Nanci Griffith was his favorite singer wit her “Other Voices Other Rooms” his favorite CD, but I’ll bet Jackson in the running now! I remember being at a friend's house and we listened to 2 albums that day. Bob Dylan Slow Train Coming and Jackson Browne Late for the Sky. We were 17 and Jackson was 18 when he wrote it. I couldn't get over an 18 year old boy could write something like that. Something about hearing an artist for the first time. It stays with your whole life .

OMG - I'm in tears! I've never seen this live performance of Jackson's most famous song (a nod to co-writer Glenn Frey, RIP). But to segue into "Our Lady of the Well" was a total surprise. Every time I hear Take It Easy, I long to hear the segue right into Our Lady on Jackson's euphonious 1973 "For Everyman" album. And I couldn't be happier. UPDATE: The ONLY thing this performance is missing is the amazing steel guitar work of one Mr. David Lindley. Truly made JB and many, many others sound even better.
Totally agree. Love this segue, and it's one reason I tend to dislike the Eagles version, or at least much prefer Jackson's. Aside from that, this live treatment of 'Our Lady' is heart-breaking, shattering, perfectly executed by all. OMG indeed!
agree in total, except ... the sublime Mr Dave didn't play pedal steel on these tracks (or any other). that tremendous work was done by Sneaky Pete Kleinow (RIP). masterfully incorporated here by Greg Leisz, while still infusing his own incredible sense of melody and harmony. a gem of a performance all around.

Huge Eagles and Jackson Browne fan. I’ve always preferred the Eagles version of Take It Easy (slightly), but if it weren’t for JB, the song would never have been written in the first place. He’s an amazing artist.

Bernie's banjo in double time makes the Eagles' version great, but the peddle-steel guitar in Jackson's version is perfect. Makes me wish I were a junior in high school again.

Jackson Brownes' first record might have been, SATURATED WHEN WET. These classics he wrote for his album. In 1972, I saw him play with Bonnie Raitt sitting off the stage swinging a bottle of wine and Browne was behind the piano telling us his wife made the shirt he was wearing. It was at the Capital Theater in Passaic, NJ in 1972. I was 15 and my dad allowed me to go out with an older college guy. 1972 summer was Roosevelt Stadium in JC, NJ. Band played at 3AM, great amphitheater acoustics in round half circle seating. BEST EYES OF THE WORLD, 3 hrs, hands down. Roosevelt Stadium, Capital Theater should be an historical landmark today - forget about the r 'n r museum, who didn't play the Capital Theater in Passaic, NJ? Stevie Ray Vaughn literally set his amps on fire. Spectacular shows all throughout the early middle and late 1970s into early '80s.

5 yrs ago I was in Winslow AZ for a couple days and of course every shop in town was playing this song.
Later in the night I popped into the lounge of the hotel I was staying at and this song started playing. An elderly woman asked why this song kept playing everywhere. I explained to her that the eagles put Winslow on the map with this song .I then told her Jackson Browne co-wrote the song and I liked his version better.
The whole place went silent and the bar tender came over and asked me to pay my tab and leave before the locals dragged me out.
Other than that there's not much in Winslow.

Jackson Browne - what can be said that hasn't already been said so many times before and much better than I could express what his music means to me and to countless others - that being said - I miss Jeff Young - I miss David Lindley - David whose talent defined so much of Jackson's early catalogue of great music - and the interplay between Greg Leisz and Val McCallum - for those who know - what more needs to be said - I'm just so glad I had Jackson's music be apart of my life these last 50 years - and the way Take It Easy blends into Our Lady of the Well - absolutely perfect - Thanks you Jackson - the soundtrack of my life

Early in their careers, Frey & Souther were in a duo called Longbranch Pennywhistle & they played the Troubador. And decided to get a place together, It was Glenn Frey & J.D.Souther who lived above Jackson Brown, Frey & Henley weren’t roommates until later. Jackson Brown & Glenn Frey wrote “take it easy.”

"For Everyman" which these 2 songs come from is an absolutely beautiful album from beginning to end.
There's nothing like hearing someone do this song live (Including the post-Hotel California tour Eagles) to remind you just how great Randy Meisner's harmony vocals were when the Eagles played it in the 70's.
Jeff Young (who is singing BV's here) is an incredible singer. My guess is that the monitoring isn't great. But of course, no one can touch Meisner or the Eagle's harmonies in general.
They had a way of making it heartfelt! And really fluid?

@@davidmurray2539 In Don Felder's book he speaks to what you're saying when he recalls how Don Henley would push & push & push until they got EVERY SINGLE LITTLE kink out of a track before they pressed a song. That meant a lot of very inspired, though rough, performances ended up on the cutting room floor.
