Now my question is, when the recession hits, what are Mattel’s obligations? Can they terminate the project if it gets too expensive to make? Are they obligated to return your money? Just too many questions, but none of these shills talk about these issues.
Not only are those vintage Eternia playsets uber-expensive on the secondary market, the vast majority of them are pre-owned, which means they've been played with, most likely by kids. Who knows what condition they're truly in, not to mention how many parts may be missing and/or broken. If you're able to swing this new version, not only are you gonna get a kick out of it, it'll likely be a 'bargain,' hard as it may be to believe, in the coming years.
I did back Eternia with 2 orders and I'll likely pick up another one. I don't think this will drive the cost of things up. There are plenty of other, far more concerning things driving up costs that Mattel has nothing to do with! This grail piece is something I refused to miss. As I write, we're nearly to 6,000 backers.
The Ghost Rider was Exposed as overpriced early. People began finding suitable alternates to the car for $40 to $50! Maybe not quite as loaded, but close, and perfectly serviceable! $40 to $50 compared to $350!
I was literally ONLY gonna back it if all the stretch goals were met......so I could sell all the extra shit off, and make all my money back on it. Soon as I saw the Goblin Queen, I went "yeah...this shit won't pay it off", and I'm glad I never pounced.

As far as I'm concerned, the 12K stretch goal needs to be the bridges (shown in some of the concept art) that connects Eternia to Castle Grayskull & Snake Mountain. But I'm also aware of the possibility that Mattel might be holding onto them as backup to drive up interest if the backing tapers off too much in.

I backed on day 1 lol, heck I'm going to have an entire room devoted to just MOTU. It's my first crowd funding I've ever backed. I do regret not doing Unicron just slightly I REALLY regret not doing Star Saber. If I had skipped Eternia I never would have forgived myself so yeah it was an automatic day 1 backing for me. I've considered getting a second one to resell in a few years, and no it's not scalping if they'll make as many as are ordered. But the high cost of the set along with the space it would take up just can't justify it right now. So I will be MORE than happy to get my 1 Eternia and display my MOTU collection with it for hopefully the rest of my life.

the price for that king grayskull is going to be rediculous after market. feelings on revelations aside once midnight hits on 10/19 whatever the # of backers is at that time is the total number of King Grayskulls that will exist in that incarnation. I'm sure the figure itself is the same kitbashed figure you can see youtube videos about but its getting its own packaging and presumably its own accessories and mini comic. can't kitbash those.
They don't, but if you're in the US there's a lot of ways to get payments outside of Mattel. Affirm is what I did, 223$ down, 42$ monthly, 12% interest. Go get a loan somewhere, it's usually cheaper than credit cards
Mattel Creations had a glitch, which meant certain credit cards (American Express and I think Discover) were not accepted, which made backing Eternia difficult for quite a few people. I backed it, but I had to use my back-up credit card and check with the bank regarding the limit first. I suspect there were others in the same situation who had to find an alternate way to pay for Eternia. I already know where I'm going to put Eternia, when it arrives, in a big display together with Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain, which should be out by then.
IDK why but my pending charge vanished right before it hit 5k backers.... and my available credit went back up to what it is w/o Eternia on it, so i ordered another one after it hit 5k...... i hope i get both........

Whether or not this is the holy grail...The excitement over paying for an overpriced playset and handing a couple mil to a billion dollar company who is collecting interest on your money for over a year is nauseating.
Even if it doesnt reach 10k i feel this is a success. IMO, Eternia is worth its price whereas the Ghost Rider HasLab is most definitely not. I honestly thought the HasLab would lose way more backers in the past few days because they might jump on to Eternia instead. It hasnt lost many backers and has stayed around 5K since the initial exodus when the early bird wasnt reached.
