What a great song. When we used to go to gigs at The Rock Garden, Middlesbrough, I'd always ask the dj to play it. When he did the local skins got up and danced and usually one went down and he got a gentle kicking. Anyone remember those days?
I saw these in Manchester , we went up with one of the support bands , Manufactured Romance , formerly 4th Reich and we went to the aid of a punk who was getting beat up by skinheads . The punk said I don't want your London help. It proceeded to kick off upstairs with about 10 of us against the crowd. Luckily the band we travelled up with got us in their dressing room and we armed ourselves with bottles and chairs but thankfully nothing happened.
Manufactured Romance, I'd forgotten them! I saw them and Crisis support the Cockney Rejects at the Electric Ballroom. That gig was a war zone from the off I can tell you!
In Eighties in communist Poland in almost every bigger bookstore was "Backstage Pass" vinyl featuring Slaughter and The Dogs, UK Subs, Stiff Little Finger, Angelic Upstarts etc. I guess it was Polish bootleg edition, but make me happy to hear some good punk from UK :)
One of the first "true" punk bands....coming right out of the Pub Rock scene....Slaughter and the Dogs, Sham 69, and Cock Sparrer were really the bands that turned pub rock into early working class street rock.
Thanks for this. Haven't heard it in a long while. Subbed, hopefully they'll let us listen over here--since they took away my Rejects vid of Bubbles, which really pissed me off. Thanks again.
A classic that will never die, couldn't believe how well they still do it live. I would say so many of the bands since owe so much to guys like this for breaking down music's fomerly constrained walls, but they aren't in the same league as these guys and modern music is just crap.
Probably the first punk album I bought, although I didn't know it at the time, and neither did 99% of the population, I saw the cover in that record shop at the north end of Brixton road and it went from there. Ended up playing guitar really badly in an infamous Oi band, had to run with cabs and guitars from a pub being petrol bombed, but you know what? Would not change a thing, other than that time the ginger skin bird said come to my place and fuck me and my mum :)
Probably re-fering to skinheads and football hooligans. Skinheads first emerged late 1960s ,then they sort of revived late 70s.The actual boots being re-fered to are the excellent Dr Martin`s ( DMs or Doc`s) I was never a`boot boy ` but that was all i ever wore on my feet from my mid teens till about 25. Hard wearing and good to run in from would be attackers !
Boot boys weren't skinheads it was more glam rock dms sprayed silver or gold with stencilled initials of your club and shit like that Leeds crew used to have Alice Cooper make up it was around 71 72
Where have all the Boot Boys Gone Wearing boots and short hair cuts. We will kick you in the gut, But no luck they've all grown up. They drink tea from a cup. Some get married and settle down.
