  • At the 3rd stage is when the musou modes split and become unique for each force. Wei gets Guan Du. Depending on who you play as, you start in a different area of the map. You'll notice that officers have different patterns and objectives, which the commander will usually say what they're ordered to do.
Xiahou Dun is in the center of the map leading his own unit, which is meant to cut through the center and attack Yuan Shao from behind. If we do that, we could work with Xiahou Dun's troops and end the stage relatively quickly, but we'd HAVE to be fast because the rest of Yuan Shao's army is going to absolutely demolish everyone else. Xiahou Dun is pretty much the only one on Cao Cao's side who doesn't struggle in this stage.
Up north we have Yan Liang who is being a one man army and totaling everyone up there. He looks like he's surrounded, but his morale is high so he'll defeat everyone around him and then advance into Yan Jin to defeat Xiahou Yuan. If by some miracle Yan Liang starts to struggle, Wen Chou will go to help him and attack the enemies surrounding Yan Liang's rear. Then they both will take out Xiahou Yuan.
Cao Cao doesn't have it any better as he has the bulk of Yuan Shao's main forces laying siege to his castle. Given enough time or if you perform well in the battle, Yuan Shao will order his main army to march at Cao Cao all at once. Yuan Shang has huge morale and so does Shao himself so they'll cause real trouble for Cao Cao and Dian Wei. Fortunately, Cao Cao has a ton of sub officers to help defend him so he'll last longer than the units being attacked by Yan Liang and Wen Chou.
So, ideally you'll want to go rescue the northern units as fast as possible. Once you manage to do that, Yuan Shao will charge Cao Cao and you should get a notification about Wu Chao being nearby. Go and take it before he deals too much damage, and it'll cause him to pull back and lose morale. Cao Cao is still in danger though, because Yuan Shang's morale stays unaffected and it'll keep rising as he slays Cao Cao's sub officers. The good news is that the northern units will advance to help Cao Cao's defense or attack Yuan Shao from the south alongside Xiahou Dun's troops whilst all this is going on, so this can help to keep him alive.
Once you take Wu Chao, your priority should be to help Cao Cao by defeating Yuan Shang and any other officers and sub officers around him, then, go after Yuan Shao. Your army should be down his throat by this point so now you have plenty of time. Liu Bei and Zhang Fei don't move from their northwest position for the entire stage so you can use this time to go take them out for some more EXP and stats before you finish off Yuan Shao.

The voice acting in 2 was better than in 3 lol

Maybe but DW3 had its own cheesy charm to it though. You can't help yourself but laugh at lines like "you flaming idiots" or "feel the power of my magic".

Fun fact, the voice actor for Cao Cao is Robert Belgrade, the voice for Alucard from Castlevania Symphony Of The Night.

I hate the enemy regeneration system. It just drags the fights out way too long.

that's what made it more challenging though. all the new dynasty warriors are too unrealistic with their dragon ball Z like fighting styles.

That’s the good part, as CAO CAO said, the fights are fought with minds not with bottons.
The regeneration system forced you to sweat and try hard to hit the enemy so perfectly to not let the enemy stand up and regenerate. You had to be good and pressing bottons, timing, aiming (turning while stacking hits on enemy) & at strategy all at once. You miss one you had to start over and clock always ticking, you had to watch your lord as well.
The DW 2 was the best DW ever made, I played DW3, SW2, DWOrochi1, DW7 & 8 and always go back to DW 2.

@Awhol Lotta Whoopass plus the soldiers counted, I remember in DW 2 soldiers were just savage, they run at you and hit you hard, the ones with full armor sometimes hit you so hard you would think they are generals. Man I miss DW2 so much, but I agree DW Orochi & samurai warriors are my second favorite after DW 2.

Dw 5 Empires was a Fair System (the Reviewers don't say this but The Commander doesn't Regenerate Health after you damage them).

I miss when Guan Du was as hard as this. No matter who you are in this stage you will struggle. Whilst Xiahou Dun doesn't struggle immediately, he does however has the responsibility of bailing everyone else out.
Even Wu Chao doesn't tip the tides in your favour, all it does is delay the inevitable since you are still going to need to rescue Cao Cao and Dian Wei.

I remember playing this for the first time back in 2001, I played as Dian Wei and I got my ass handed to me during my first run at Guan Du. It was fun as hell and I wish they would allow the upgraded characters (say upgraded to DW5 level) play in DW2 stages because I honestly feel like DW2 had the best combination of stage design and difficulty in the entire series. Its just that playable characters were so limited even compared to what we got in DW3.

If you DW fan you should try this, i played every single DW, this has the best mechanisms, just 10/10, if they would remake it with better graphics it would have been 11/10

this but refined i would buy it instantly. like the overall feeling towards this game for me hasnt changed.
it is challenging but i like that the peons do get in the way it requires you not to run in with no thoughts.
i wouldnt even mind enemy officers regaining health thing if it wasnt infinite like them having a few items on. the full heals are really dumb in most cases but once in a while it would be fine.
also being able to collect and keep a few items you pick up during the battle like in strike force.
a targeting system having your bodyguards controllable so that they engage with enemies you are not targeting to keep yourself safe from your little 1v1 or targeting so that you can gang up on officers if need be.
there are probably more things that could be made but those are just some random thoughts.

Their health Regain is actually Random in Dw2. In Dw3 it's actually more frequent than Dw2 When the Officers will Musou Charge when away from You( Dw2 Officers rarely do this in Comparison to Dw3 Officers). The Officers actually do drop Swords and Shields when you defeat Them
