if you are looking for a recording product that can record all your bands needs and are on a budget IK's AXE I/O is something you should seriously check out. best in class features for its range!
How is it better than Presonus and Focusrite? You do not even know what's inside. Get enough to kiss the manufacturers, turn on the head and prevent constructive arguments. What are the converters and strapping, what is the latency and stability?
Hey TOT, you don't have to use the MIDI in / out to use the Preset Dial on the interface.
You merely have to enable the Axe I/O MIDI in your daw, or the standalone, and then you can
use the Preset dial. No MIDI I/O required. Just FYI, as you state that you have to have
the MIDI I/O hooked up, and you don't. It works through the USB. I got mine from Amazon for $249!
Instablaster
@@xxIIpu3paKxx I’m currently deciding whether to buy the new Presonus HD. I’m leaning towards not doing so because I’ve juxtaposed this device which I already own, to the specifications on Presonus HD. They collaborated with fender to make the Inst input. It lacks all of the features that this preamp offers. They have a fixed impedance, which is extraordinarily limiting for guitarists. Even Neural DSP quad cortex allows for adjustment of the instrument input preamp. in addition, the frequency response is only 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. The Axe I/O has an enormous frequency response, which in the realm of digitization is helpful to maintain integrity in post processing with edge conditions. I’ve submitted an inquiry to many Presonus agents about their plans to rectify this condition - if it’s even possible with a firmware update. As for now, I’ll stick with my quantum 2626 because I’m not going to record my DI guitar and bass through an instrument preamp with no adjustability and a narrow frequency response, even if the 124 dB dynamic range is appealing, and I suspect Presonus’ AD DA converters have some advantage.
Just as an FYI to anyone interested in this product, the Z-tone function only affects the 1/4" instrument 1 input on the front of the unit. So to say that "you can actually change the impedance of your microphone" is a bit misleading. If you connect your microphone to the XLR input on the back' the Z-tone knob will have no effect.
I had left Amplitube aside (not stable enough at the time on my PC and with my sound card) but there, I just received it, installed and played with Amplitube 5 Max ... WOAAAHHH its sounds so good !! ! The guys from IK Multimedia have taken a huge step forward !! I leave my Helix aside. I have this feeling of playing on real tube amps with fantastic dynamics to go from clean to crunch! I who am a fan of Satriani I am overwhelmed the presets made by Joe are fabulous ... impossible to have this sound on Helix!
Thanks guys from IK ... definitely addicted
Just grabbed one of these AXE I/O's off of Amazon for $249 with same day delivery!! NOW the wait begins! Thanks for the very informative video. ROCK ON!! \m/
5:18 that's not true, I am able to use this knob, by turning and pressing only using USB. The only thing you have to do is
Click in Settings / Audio MIDI Setup...
then go to the last item in form which is
MIDI Input:
select AXE IO
and click OK button
Now the MIDI red square at the bottom righ corner lights every time the knob is turned or pressed.
Joe is correct. I have the AXE I/O and when setup correctly, the knob definitely does work using the USB cable (MIDI over USB)
Would totally love to see the video of you digging into the sounds. I use amplitube myself and love seeing how other users set up their own tones etc.
Wow I remember watching graphics card reviews from you years and years ago...never knew you covered this stuff too!
right??
7:04 That is actually correct. 2 Inputs because the gain knop controls the the mic/line and inst. The 5 outputs are the 4 on the back and the amp out.
I bought the I/O solo a few days ago. Huge improvement of my previous Gen 1 Focusrite scarlet 2i2. I had been thinking of buying a Kemper or a Fractal. Not anymore.
You can clearly hear the precision of the built-in guitar tuner in this recorded example.
Elrich, would you show us your guitars, and in the future do guitar and amp reviews?
That is the direction I am going my friend, cheers and thanks for being here.
I hope he has acoustic guitars too :)
This is perfect didnt know what to buy to do that kind of job, i was going to buy something way overpriced apparently.
Thanks dude really good review as always
Thank you for the comment
I didn't really understand what you meant on 10:50 and 15:00. Isn't that what every VST plugin in the world does? It has nothing to do with this specific interface...Or am I missing something?
Loving these musical tech reviews
Great review Again..I'll be getting this me thinks and all the best from the UK
Cheers mate and thank you.
good stuff, Elrich!
Thank you
Can you please tell me if you can use this interface without the power cable, like just powered by the USB.
Hey Elrich, good overview but it would be nice especially for guitar players if next time around you touched on real-time latency while recording and what tat looks like. Cheers
i would love to have one
A newbie question, but how do you connect the midi cables from the midi controller to the Axe IO? Is it easy like "Midi In to Midi In"?
10:51 that's not true, you can use the VST3 Plugin called AmpliTube 4 and print in real time as a normal plugin. You have each and every feature of AmpliTube in this plugin, but you can't use the preset knob since the DAW is not MIDI controlled compatible as AmpliTube 4 is.
Hello! Can you tell me how the interface will work without software (AmpliTube 4 Deluxe 10)? What can be used for free to work with the interface without software?
Hello. Does this unit act as your primary sound card also? I.e if I plug in my headphones will I be hearing system sounds too, and games etc?
My Line 6 Ux2 does this, but I'm unsure whether that's a feature of all audio interfaces.
I'm guessing JFET is tube emulation?
Thank you for your video.I just got AXE I/O solo and I tried to setting up Audio in Reaper. But I can`t hear the guitar only Monitor sound I hear even I m panning it all the way to DAW....
amp out goes to the cabinet? sure you dont mean out to your amp to clarify for the confusion?
Hello. I have Axe i/o, but here where it is not specified which converters of the DAC ADC, I tried to disassemble but except for one xmos chip I didn't see anything. You have a lot of audio interfaces in your Studio, could you write how Axe i/o sounds compared to other audio interfaces, I don't think it sounds very good.
Heyy sorry for the question I'm new to home recording it's all very confusing. Would this be the best option to go for if I wanted to record acoustic guitar and vocals with a Shure SM7B and PGA81? So hard to find guides online of how to set it all up :D
Well most (almost all) daws records the digital raw track from the instrument and then you connect a plugin like Amplitube on the track. This makes you edit the sound without re-recording.
Just ordered one for 300 from guitar center. My current scarlett solo is noisy and triggeres the amp sims with baseline static. Hopefully this solves the issue
Elric.. whats up man. Im thinking about getting this here interface.. im certainly entry level far as daws and plug-ins and all that.. what would be a couple other essentials I would need?
Going to buy, but have a quastion: will it provide enough volume for 250 Om headphones?
Is it much better then a Focusrite Scarlet Pro ?
I have heard of issues of the AMP level/tone output. I take it the AMP output is not a thru signal, so I would be better off with a Radial product to to record a dry and a mic amp tone at the same time. Do you know if the company has fixed this issue with the AMP level output?
Hey! I wonder if it is possible to setup an expression pedal (BOSS-brand) for this device to control looper inside of AmpliTube software?
Great review! I am going to get one asap. please, reply me: Can I record four tracks simultaneously? I will try to record a rehearsal drums.
I get killer tones using my Line 6 UX2 using various guitar plugins. If I were to switch to this unit, how would it benefit me? This does seem like a good unit with great features, but I honestly don't see it changing anything that I currently get with my UX2. Are the preamps considered higher quality? Thanks in advance for your reply.
In your case you will be blowing 450$ out the window..The UX2 is designed for the recording guitarist with excellent auto matching Z inputs...The AXE IO folks are to late to the party with an overprised unit cause probably they are selling the software included...
what you can do is go thro the UX2 and buy yourself the Nural DPS vst stuff for like 100 or 150$ and call it a day...Another alternative to the UX2 if you dont have a guitarist deticated Interface is an Old BOSS GS10, Boss GT001, Avid 11 Rack, POD X3 Pro...Just bypass those unit's effects using their excellent Z inputs as an audio interface and use an advanced VST....
I use NDSP these days and Im looking to replace my old 15 y/old UX1... so this was an interesting thread.
I installed this product.today. Totally worth the cost. I'm especially happy with the mic function, sounds great!
So I just got my AXE I/O and went out to research setup and stumbled onto this video. After waiting over a month to get it and then seeing this review... You really pushed that price to the point that has got me a lil concerned.
I have this axe io and I want to do vocal recording.
I use GarageBand.I can’t choice XLR that my mic in.
Someone can teach me??
So, you can’t run your physical amp straight to this box via XLR, correct?
You could do that if you wanted to. Just plug in in to one of the XLR inputs on the back, but it would probably be better using the line in jacks.
Is that a fusion 550 behind you?
Awesome!
Hi everyone! Somebody knows what happens if you plug a guitar and a mic into the same channel or input? It would be a hazel to plug and unplug things back and forth just use one or the other.
Does anybody know why I am receiving a delay in my sound from my guitar?
Make sure you adjust your buffer settings in the software you are using.
Bad thing about it is 48v to both channels.
It's only for the mic inputs, doesn't effect the guitar ins on the front. Most audio interfaces have 48v switched in banks, usually in banks of two or four.
I recently got one of these. The main issue I'm having right now is when you play your computer speakers one speaker is louder than the other and I can't get them balanced. Their support is super slow and I haven't found anything online about it. I've checked literally everything on my speakers and the Axe IO as well as the Axe IO control panel. Surely I'm missing something. I can't imagine this interface is setup like this on purpose.
Please let me know if you find the solution! Cheers!
@@vicenteb531 are you having the same issue?
@@1969MARKETING Nope, but I am planning to get one. Where did you buy it? Probably they can guide you to solve the issue. Cheers
Check out the TS-MEGA its midi controller AND audio interface with same tech specs as this and its cheaper too.
Yeah but that's pretty much geared towards Apple users exclusively
Is it good for both electric and acoustic recording?
Go ahead and speak for hours about the Axe I/O lol
That's a great deal for $350 if their units are consistently built well
Open it up for us :)
Сегодня заказал и заплатил, надеюсь не пожалею. Я дальнобойщик, в машине поиграть через ноутбук))
It looks like it also comes with a headset.
entry level
I am aware this is a sponsored review, but still, if you're gonna make a review on a guitar oriented audio interface, you should definitely strum a chord or two. 17 minutes of talking only is overkill.
You lost me with you have render? Explain that please
You said multiple times that its entry level, not pro, not the best. You never explained why, It seems to me that you should skip all of the extra talk without explanation or value and simply go over the features because that's all this video is. Embrace it and get to the point.
ITS A PIECE OF SHIT !!!!!!!!! I SENT ONE BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because of the amp out reamp feature not giving a good sound when reamping?
