    For your fingerless mitts, I would suggest using a tapestry needle and thick cotton thread to pick up the knit and purl stitches in the row below. Very Pink Knits has a tutorial for lifelines in ribbing including reactive lifelines. You basically put in two reactive life lines, one for the knits on the right side then flip the glove inside out and pick up the knits on the wrong side which are also the purls on the right side. Once you have all your stitches transferred from your lifelines to your needle, you can unpick the round you made the mistake on. Hope this helps. Good luck!

    Love your energy! I have the same reservations about yarn festivals (currently accumulating faster than I can knit) so I like your approach of thinking of it like an art gallery. For me, I am mostly into solids over variegated yarn, but I am very susceptible to the tonals that indie dyers have- once I saw the subtle tone shading knit up, it's so hard to go back to the commercially dyed solid colors, they seem so flat!

      This makes me feel like I need to stay away from tonals for as looooong as possible 😂

    I also went to KnitCity last weekend!! My mom and I did the same thing, we started at one end and looked at all the booths first. Then we sat for a bit and consulted our notes on pattern idea lol. Then we went back around and bought some stuff! I actually ended up buying that new cotton linen yarn from the wandering flock in the citrine colourway!!!

    It's a totally different gauge, and a different style, but I have heard very good things about the Ghost Whisperer by Park Williams and it was the first thing that came to mind when you said a mohair top. Just eyeballing, it looks modifiable and it looks like you can even do a little math and change the gauge. There are over 800 projects and people have done some really fun things with it. Maybe just look at those projects for inspiration! Gorgeous mohair - I'm sure it will work up beautifully!

    The Problem is i guess the same as why you could not do the Provisional cast on on the ribbed top. You did not pick up whole knit stitches but soemthing in between the knits and purls (due to the direction you were knitting - top down vs. Bottom up). I fear you will either have to fudge or reknit that thing.

    I've had this happen, I think, with very tightly knit stitches. The purls ARE there if you turn it inside out so that you're working on the reverse side of the ribbing -- but you will have to pull some of the purl stitches down one or two rows (ergo dropping them) to figure out where to pick them up.

    Always lovely to hear from another Toronto maker! Hi from KW~ I appreciate what you're saying about yarn shows being like art galleries, but also... I walk into art galleries and want to buy everything, so the metaphor fails there with me. And that's why I came home with a massive haul from Knit City LOL. That long mustard yellow cardigan is fantastic - I love it with your poppy top too, they go together so well. If you're looking for a cute simple lacey mohair top - there's actually another pattern in the same pompom as the Cloudbow - which I've had my eye on for a while: The Plumetis? You might have to rejig it to suit your mohair quantity, but it might fit your bill. Looking forward to mroe!

    • @AliMakesEverything
      @AliMakesEverything  4 месяца назад

      Hahahahahaha you make a great point 😂 And yes the Plumetis is beautiful! I’ve settled on the Cloudbow but since I had to buy the whole issue, the Plumetis might be the answer to what I do with all my leftover mustard mohair…

      @terralia644 4 месяца назад

      @@AliMakesEverything I'm watching the rest of your backlog now and that would be a great solution, considering it looks like you have two sweaters quantities instead of one. It'd use any leftover merino that you have too - you already have a perfect colour match :)

    So happy I found your channel! You may have inspired me to make a squiggle sweater of my own and I may or may not have paused multiple times on your project page to figure out if it was a pattern or not. Also, as a French Canadian myself I can confirm that even in my French classes in high school and my cultural linguistic classes in University they made us read the s a m e thing. And honestly, no offence to my ancestors, but I also found those books incredibly boring 😂

    Unrelated, but you were asking about non superwash no nylon socks and felting recently. I was watching some of Fiber Love Diary breed study videos and she has a series from a couple years ago called Soxtravaganza where she spun up some single breed samples and knit swatches to test for machine wash and dry capabilities of some breeds that people say are good sock breeds. IIRC Southdown was the best result, but the 4(?) videos are worth the watch!

    Koff pon your knit stitches. Poff kon your purls. (Knit off: Purl on / Purl off: knit on)
    The two set up stitches are just the ‘on’ parts of that, so pon kon.
    If I forget how to start kitcheners or bind off, I just think ‘Always cough upon your kitcheners’ and then the rest comes back to me. Works for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I was going to suggest White Mountains by Midori Hirose but I'm a little confused on the pattern (I had to double check). The pattern calls for worsted weight but there is a sample in mohair. She has a "Light" version as well but that's just DK. Maybe you would like to take a look.

    If it’s super sticky yarn, could you brave taking it off the needles/lifeline and just unravel to “find” the stitches? You may end up going back one or more rows but at least it should unravel to reveal the stitches as they’re supposed to be? Good luck!!

    • @AliMakesEverything

      This might be the answer if I can't figure out what's going on-because it's the opposite direction they're knit from, it would either mean it ends up shorter than the other one, or that I get a jog in the ribbing to pick up and knit in the other direction 🥲 Nothing is ever simple 😂

    I want that cardigan so badly but I don't know if I can stand to knit that much flat stockinette, annnnd I have three dogs that are secretly piranhas so I worry about nails and teeth catching on stitches 🙈
    Also I hate when you can't find multicolored yarn samples of it knit up, so much yarn looks gorgeous in the skein and then pools something awful when it's knit up. I did recently buy a couple skeins of sock yarn that are beauuuutiful in the skein but I have seen it knit up and it's horrendously busy. I suspected this would be the case and bought them anyway, they're gonna be socks and I don't mind socks being obnoxious, soooo 😂
